Do you land…inside or out

I think that‘s how almost everyone does it. When I started simming with FS98 I flew the C182RG either from behind or with the panel hidden but the gauges shown at the bottom of the window. It was a 2D panel only and it wasn‘t the best view on the runway. As soon as there was a virtual cockpit view I used it all the time.

Haha I have my hair slightly below my shoulder and at one time when I was in VR in the Tiger Moth my girlfriend sneaked up on me and switched on a hair dreyer in front of me „to simulate the wind“:rofl:

When I took the headset down my hair was raveled in the velcro strip

I inadvertently did that by using a fan. It was just to cool down. I don’t have air conditioning in my house, so it gets a little toasty in the summer. The fan gave me that feeling, I guess. Even in a closed cockpit, there’s airflow.

I miss those days… As an old school metalhead, I had hair down almost to my waist in the early 90s. Co-workers used to call me Cousin It (Addams Family reference for those who are too young to get it).

Inside naturally! I leave external landings for when I play GTA5

Just like IRL, I always go out and sit on the wing for landing…much better view of the airport ambiance and you just jump off if the landing isn’t working out! Kinda sucks in bad weather though!

I always land sitting in the cockpit.. and with Medium graphics settings :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Outside views are criminal.

Both. If serious simmimg, inside. If gaming, outside. I quite like flying outside because I like the “eye-candy”. As a real-life recreational pilot who only ever flies a Cessna 172, I almost always land inside in the C172 in the Sim to practise real skills, eg my wife still has to remind me IRL when landing, “eyes at the end of the runway” - because of that reminder, and many others, whether needed or not, she is a great Checklist! For other aircraft in the Sim, I might be in or out, probably more the former. When making videos for my YouTube channel I always land in. Cheers.

Always inside to preserve the sense of realism, I also much prefer it.

Also the GTA5 vibes would be too strong for me if I used external cam. (and thats a game I play every day).

There is one thing I like about the external view - the gauges on the sides of the screen. Is it possible to show these gauges on the internal view? In some planes its difficult to read the tiny screen text on the PFD (like the CJ4 jet) and during the approach it would be nice to bring up the screen gauges.

was going to be my reply as well … before I saw yours! To even ask this question to the simmer half (of sim vs game) is insulting.

I’m pretty much always inside when I sim, using TrackIR makes it quite enjoyable.

Yeah … done that too! You should try adjusting pilot position and move yourself out on to the top of a wing and fly around a bit on autopilot … THAT’s a freaky experience!

Ahh … a fellow ultralight pilot. There’s nothing like that feeling of wind in your hair … and bugs in your teeth!

Always on the inside. I see more information, hear the callouts and have a better and more realistic view overall. I’ll only use my camera outside if it’s an autoland (but then I usually use a wing view from the cabin)

Wait, what? Outside?! what’s wrong with you..

Cockpit! Only time I venture outside is when I’m at 40k, and I stay seated in my chair (VR) lol

It depends what I’m flying and purpose of the flight. I would say I do half inside and half outside. I can easily gauge when outside and do like the views.

it all depends on how you want to use the sim. Inside is more realistic, but nothing wrong with being outside and enjoying the view.

Very true … and even if OT here, the same holds true to racing simulation.

Mostly outside for me.I like the outside eye candy!

Always inside in VR.
Way too much going on and need attending too on approach to be landing in outside view.
