I’m not usually a buyer of airports, with TNCM being my first and EGNX being my second and only other buy. However, even though TNCM has been uninstalled, due to an MSFS update, I am more than happy with EGNX and it is currently my NF4 base. As my airline tends to operate in and close to the UK, with large cities being on my destinations list, Edinburgh and Birmingham will be on my watchlist.
Looking at the screenshots, I am convinced that EGPH will be another masterpiece from Pyreegue. And that’s why I’ll probably buy the airport a second time at full price. I use Pyreegue airports much more than others because they are just that good. But of course you can argue about whether you really needed an even better Edinburgh. If I could have decided, I would have preferred a new airport too. But the good thing is that everyone can decide for themselves whether they want to buy the same airport a second time. Nobody is forced. I’m really looking forward to the release!
I’m normally pretty cynical but I honestly don’t believe this will be the case. Asobo have assured us that current products will be forward compatible — in spite of that statement not precluding the devs having to do some minor update work (elevation fixes, etc.), it does indicate that any issues shouldn’t warrant a level of revision that would justify paying any sort of excess charge.
Re the statement specifically only mentioning Marketplace products, I think that’s simply to cover their own backsides (of course they can’t be expected to speak for independent devs).
And I’m sure they will be. What I think will happen though is that a lot of scenery developers will do as Pyreegue have done and will just remake completely sceneries from scratch with extra bells and whistles and charge all over again for them. When it becomes clearer how some of the new features of FS2024 are going to work I think a lot of developers may want to completely remake things to take advantage of new game mechanics etc, and as soon as it becomes the norm to charge for completely remade sceneries a lot of developers will start doing it.
Looking at the comments on the Pyreegue Facebook page people don’t seem to be too bothered about having to buy Edinburgh airport all over again for the new version. I’m not saying they’re wrong or right, but it is quite revealing I think in some ways.
Anyway, at this point in time I’d rather wait and see what FS2024 brings and buy things for that separately.
Even so. It’s not like you have to mortgage your house to buy an Airport (especially not on sale). 2 Beers is what you get for the most expensive Airport here. That is typically a starter for me :).
This is a no brainer of course and I think there will be upgrade offers like usual.
I wont pay full price for V2.Only significant discount will merit purchasing it again.
For this, Glasgow and Belfast I would pay what they ask. They are that good.
I would always support Pyreegue, but buying an update at full price is a leap, even for me.
I’m sure in the past he said he wouldn’t do this, and updates would always be free so we shall have to see if the differences are worth it. The screenshots look excellent but are they worth another full price purchase over and above the already excellent V1? Only time will tell.
There is now a product page on Contrail with comparison pictures of version 1 and 2. Definitely a big difference. The airport looks really great. However, the FPS are significantly lower in version 2. And the price is hefty if there is no discount for owners of version 1.

However, I also think that Pyreegue will once again set a new standard with v2 of Edinburgh.
Nice, but perhaps overkill and over expensive for what is an already nice V1 airport. Especially if at full price for exsting owners.
Where is this info from? Contrail? Can see a ref. Or has someone done a preview video?
In the comparative screenshots of version 1 and 2 on Contrail, you can see the FPS in the top right corner.
Yep also in version 2 of the EGHP there is a significant FPS drop -10. So I will stay with v1 and wait for a significant discount.
Considering it isn’t out yet it would be hard to say anything about FPS :). FPS counter doesnt say so much here since there are numerous factors involved. Could be different settings etc. More Traffic?
There’s no denying v2 looks special, but is it £22 worth of special over v1? £22 is a fair price for a first time buyer, but it remains borderline unjustifiable for those that already own the original.
Even a 20-25% discount for existing owners would very probably attract many more sales in the long run, particularly as many of the improvements are on the non-flying side of the airport.
There is always Christmas sale for those strapped on Cash. It feels extra good supporting these devs considering the environment.
What we also need to chew over is FS2024 coming, and things like moving grass, other vegetation and any other new gate/passenger features (eg. non GSX). None of these third party airports in 2020 will have all the bells and whistles, so will all need to be updated at some stage to perhaps a V3. It would be insanity to sink £22GPB($29USD) into a FS2020 airport at this stage.
I’m even lacking enthusiasm with the current marketplace summer sale.
22$ is like two beers over here. And that is just a starter. MS made it clear that the upgrade needs were not that difficult.
When you buy Keflavik v2 on Contrail you get 30% off if you own v1. I expect something similar here.
They are very good but neither has an accurate runway elevation profile. They are completely flat. At least EDI v1 had a semi-accurate runway elevation profile.
As much as I admire and support Pyreegue, accurate runway profiles are the norm now, even in some quite basic scenery. No dev is perfect. I get that he was unable to procure the necessary data for those earlier projects but I do expect something in the £18-22 category to come with accurate elevation data as standard.
I do note the listing says “Bespoke Terrain Elevation” not sure if that equates to runway elevation profile though.
v2 will have an accurate terrain profile. v1’s was reasonable but based on photos, I believe, rather than official elevation data. I was more referring to GLA and BFS, and addressing the comments made about them being great. They are of course great… but not perfect — in 2024, flat runways, taxiways and aprons do not justify £18 price tags.
