Does anyone know the mechanics behind the difference between using elevator trim with an encoder or other binding vs. using the mouse wheel?
When I use the mouse wheel by placing the cursor over the trim wheel, the trim wheel moves pretty well and intuitively. If I use an encoder or other bind it travels, I think, one degree per click. Me no likey.
I would really like to get the same movement out of a rotary encoder like I do the mouse wheel, but am not sure the difference. I thought the mouse wheel was just a rotary encoder…
Any ideas?

I’m likely not answering your question, but I wanted to ask, can you / we bind the mouse scroll as elevator trim axis or at least as elevator trim up and down?
I used to use a combination of AuthentiKi and vJoy to control the trim wheel on my HC Bravo. It converted the trim to an axis, instead of button presses, allowing very smooth control of trim.
Here’s a link to a forum post that details it.
I’ve since abandoned that, and now use SPAD to control the trim wheel as button presses with a (configurable) resolution of .005 degrees per button press.
Using either method leaves my mouse wheel free to use as a zoom control.
thanks for this . . is AuthentiKi kinda like UCR & UJR? Can it be used to map my racing pedals (accelerator and clutch) as my aircraft rudder?
I don’t know UCR or UJR.
The AK app turns button/encoder inputs into vJoy (Virtual Joystick) axes.
I have built my own trim wheel using a rotary encoder and an Arduino, connected by serial comm to spad. That way I can deside codewise which resolution I want. For me it works really well.
