Error: Access to Content Servers Unavailable

Ever since trying to install the sim update yesterday, I’m unable to install it because I get an error message saying my content servers is unavailable and to check my internet connection even though my internet connection is fine.

The only option is to quit which then closes the sim and forced me to sign into XBOX Live and bring me to the “press any key to start” page. Anyone else have this issue trying to install the update? Essentially, I’m locked out of the sim. Also, my community folder is empty at the moment.

Here’s what it looks like:

I didn’t have any issues with the update I only have issues with the freezing of the last screen, the one that says New activities. It remains there for light years. I have to close the game and continue trying. If I remove everything from the community folder it works, the wierd thing is that last night I was flying and everything was ok and now I have this… let’s call it “issue” with it.
Kind of ■■■■■■ off

The update has nothing to do with the Content Manager. You update through the MS store (if non steam version), then the game updates itself on launch.

@Acuario9383 So it’s obviously a problem with one of your mods. Add one at a time and figure out which one it is and report it to the mod creator.

Correct… so I did it through the MS Store and then when I relaunched the sim the content manager error appeared and the only way to close it was to go into the XBOX Live login and “press any key to start” menu.

The only item I had in my community folder was the FBW A320NX mod which I removed before installing the update.

Gotcha. That’s bizarre. You could try “repairing” it. Search for Flight Simulator in the start menu and on the right side, click App Settings, then Repair.

Yeah, I’ll try more troubleshooting tomorrow. Been busy today and never really had a chance to get around to it. Hopefully I’ll find a solution or else no flying…

It’s almost like I’m locked out of the sim.

Here’s a pic of the error message:

Oh, content servers… you originally said content manager. There are posts about how to fix this.

Try out the suggestions regarding the Xbox app.

Yeah, my bad on that typo.

Tbh, this didn’t really help me much. This is the first time I’ve ever experienced this issue. Do you know if there is a way to avoid reinstalling the entire sim again and my 67 GiB download?

Hey Fearless, I had the same thing happen yesterday. Same message. Same XBox login dance.

It fixed itself on my system. One time I was able to log in and stay logged in.

It was soon after the update so maybe they were rebooting or something. When did you last try?

I most recently tried yesterday afternoon.

I’ll try again soon and report back and see. I certainly don’t want to do a full reinstall of the sim as that would be pointless.

Hopefully it was just overloaded servers and today goes easy. That’s my guess. Things do get a bit dicey for a while after an update hits.

I can’t say for certain we are/were seeing the same problem but I was seeing that error and getting that behavior.

Welp, no luck…

Just rebooted my PC and launched MSFS. First, I got the checking for updates screen like normal and then still a 67.38 GiB update waiting to be installed…

The location though is the correct one, but why would I need to install 67 GiB worth of an update when I’m up to date on previous patches and updates? What will happen if I update the entire 67 GiB?

Also, what was the actual size of the sim update from Tuesday?

Just 5 or so GB. I’ve seen a number of people post about the 67GB update size. I wish I had an answer for you. But 67GB might also point to UserCfg.opt.

If it is trying to install in the wrong location, that would be a full download. No real harm done but probably unnecessary.

Are you on XBox or Steam? If Steam, you could just uninstall the Steam stub and then reinstall and point it to the full installed location when you run it. (I wouldn’t uninstall anything until you’ve exhausted other options.) Reasoning is it may inventory before downloading and reinstalling the stub may force that. You mention it knows the right location, though. Is it a standard install on C drive? Have you checked the UserCfg.opt file?

Was looking for the zendesk on it but found this. Might have something of interest…

This is the one I was looking for about UserCfg.opt. I’m not sure it will help but worth a check…

Where exactly have you seen others post about the 67 GiB install size? I haven’t found any others myself and I’ve hardly received any responses from others except for you pretty much.

If it helps, I got mine from the MS store and I’m not using it from Steam.

First of all, the error is usually because your X-Box login got screwed up. The fix is to get out of MSFS, start the XBox live app and log out and log in. If it doesn’t let you, or it does but you still can’t get into MSFS, open the store and log out of there, too, then log back into both of them. If you still can’t log in, you’ll likely need to remove the two apps, restart your computer, start it again, reinstall the two apps, log in, and that might fix it. That’s the normal reason for that error anyway.

As far as the size of the download, if all goes well you get the small update. But if something screws up, you get the big download. I’m not sure which components are in it, but my guess would be the OS sort of components of the product, all the stuff that runs in the background that behind the simulator stuff.

I’ve seen it a number of posts but here is one from a while back: https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/update-1-11-7-0/333798?u=n7783l

But most recent was a guy I group fly with also quoted that number. There are probably clues there but others would know better. My experience was it fixed itself which is now diverged from your symptoms. Good luck, though.

Okay, so I just tried your method. First, I went into the XBOX Live app and signed out and then back in. Next, I went to the MS Store and signed out and back in. I relaunched MSFS and I’m still met with the 67 GiB update…

Was there a previous update that I could’ve missed somehow and now I’m essentially “catching up” in one update. Because I do remember some weeks back an update that never seemed to install. Like it did in the MS Store, but it never appeared when I launched the sim after. It just checked for updates and continued as normal.

No. I’m not 100% positive, but, when this has happened to me, it’s because some screw up happened in the initial download. As I noted, I think it thinks that some subset of files needs to be reinstalled to “reset” your installation. They may or may not be actually corrupted, but, it wants to do a refresh nonetheless. Once it thinks you need the big update, you can’t not get it.

The log in stuff is what’s needed for the error in your original post.

Well, I’m currently in the process of installing the 67 GiB update.

Hopefully it will go well or I guess I’ll have bigger issues if it doesn’t. Honestly, I ran out of any other ideas and solutions and I’m just biting the bullet at this point by going forward.
