ERROR Crash: msfs error: dxgi_error_device_hung (0x887a0006)

Wow, for me its the exact opposite. I only get the error when I’m trying to use DX12 in 2020. With DX11 its fine.

This is very frustrating…

Downloaded the sim on day two on release, then installed SU1 with not a single issue. Was enjoying VR with a HP Reverb G2 in SU1 with a total of about 50 hours in SU1 in VR… No issues.

Total time in sim is about 300 hours with a total of 2 CDT’s before SU2

Installed SU2 a couple of days ago and now I get this errot message continuously every flight after about 4 - 5 minutes in flight. This is even abter rolling back the drivers and reducing the graphics options.

Unbelievable, come on Asobo and Microsoft, you can do better than this.

Edit: Further to the above, only happens in VR so not sure what else to change.

Hi guys,

I’ve been getting this error for last few days; never happened before. rolled back to old drivers as well.

No other issue with any other high end games.

MSFS 2020 ( VR), Pimax Crystal light

RTX 4080

13900k, 32 GB RAM

Scratch my previous message. Yes, I was able to get into the sim and get some flights done. However, I get CTDs with same message now couple minutes into each flight. This is in VR. I won’t be flying this sim until this is fixed as I cannot progress with my flights. Please fix this ASAP. I’m using DX12 now as DX11 didn’t let me to even start a flight.

I had updated to the newest nvidia driver and same issues. As above. Rolled back to previous and works fine!

Can you share what version number you rolled back to? Experiencing the same thing even after updating to the latest (576.52).

I had to roll back all the way to 576.28. The issue doesn’t only seem to apply in MSFS, I had the same crash in FIFA 25 as well. So it seems to be an issue with NVIDIA drivers. I’m on a 4080. With this driver I had a flight that went smooth already.

576.02 from April

maybe try this it seems it could be TDR issue https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/J3fofOGVw5g

My problem with that is that I don’t think it actually “fixes” the underlying issue, it just helps the sim not crash for longer. In my expirence even with these ammendments to the registry, the sim will likely crash sooner or later.

The only way I’ve been able to stop the crashes …

  • MSFS 2020. Either run in DX11 mode (where my 5090 will boost to over 2800Mhz without issue). Or run in DX12 but have to underclock the GPU speed to less than 1950 Mhz. Anything more and it will crash

  • MSFS 2024. Haven’t found a way of getting it to run without crashing. Downlocking the GPU to 1700Mhz helped hold off the crashes but eventually it crashed anyway (with or without the TdrDelay/TdrLevel edits).

At this point I’m not sure if its the drivers, MSFS or mty hardware thats the issue!! The fact that MSFS2020 runs flawlessly in DX11 mode leads me to think its a driver issue..

Has the error gone away since going to 576.02?

Same here. This is frustrating.

Hi,

Tried this fix, flights lasted a bit longer (4 min to 7-8 minutes) but same error message in the end.

This is not good.

Same problem here

MSFS2024

RTX3090 on Nvidia 576.52

Only started happening following SU2 and driver update

Same Problem here.
Clean install of Win 11 and MSFS 2024 with a new Intel Arc B580 running with a Ryzen 5600 and 2x16 GB Ram. No extra hardware connected, only the same Thrustmaster T16.000M I´ve been using since MSFS2020.
I then tried it with an old GTX 1650, where the sim runs without any problems. Nice to see that this old card works and allows me at least to play the sim, even when it is only with low settings.

EDIT: Two days later, a fresh installation of Win 11 and MSFS 2024. Same result. Very frustrating.

Win11, MSFS2020, RTX3070. DX11. Was getting it nearly every time, usually on the world map, but sometimes after I hit Fly now.
Rolled back Nvidia drivers to 572.83.
Seems to work OK now.

i have had that issue for a few days now. it started in FS2020 and i could fix it with rolling back to an older nvdia driver. then it started in fs2024 after the SU3 Beta has been installed. i have tried several drivers with no prevail. i then rolled FS2024 back to official SU2, the problem persisted.
i have also tried deleting the usercfg. but this didnt help either. This evening i have disabled mbucchias Open-Xr Tools. I still had them running in the background for the nice FPS counter and one or two little tweaks. After disabling them i just had two 20 minute flights without Dxgi crash in FS24 and FS20. i am not 100% sure yet but i think this might have been the (my) problem. unfortunately i have some artefacts aorund the windscreen in both sims now. But i can live with that.
Best Regards

Im having the same issue. No overclock, DX11 or DX12. Infuriating.

Same issue on MSFS2020. Infuriating. DX11 or DX12.

FWIW, I managed to fix all my DXGI hung and CTD on startup doing the following (I have an RTX 3090 and a 5950x CPU)

  • DDU > Clean and Reinstall (performed a “clean installation” of the latest nvidia driver 576.52)

That fixed the DXGI Error Device Hung but I then got some ntdll.dll CTD during loading (note that some Windows Update happened around the same time)

  • Running the cmd
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

  • Running
    sfc /scannow

So far it’s been working through multiple flights and start/restart
