F-16 by SC Design

I’ve looked, Jack, but all I see are separate Textures folders for each specific livery, plus a “textures.common” folder. None of them have any PNG templates. Rather, all of those are already DDS files. So I guess my real question is, were the PNG templates MEANT to be included in the Paint_Kit folder, and if so, can that be chalked up and added to the first patch whenever you guys get to it?

yeah, that was definitely the intention, and I’m sure Dean will include them in the next patch. Take it for granted

I have gotten the blob as well on the 16 and Eagle. So far seems to happen during day flights as far as I can tell. Usually when I’m in external view and panning around the aircraft I see it. Only once did I see it from the default external view from straight behind the aircraft.

Also, a Viper with Spangdahlem markings and the Have Glass paint scheme would be sick.

Or this one

Yes indeed also the blob exists while inside cockpit and looking to the back, you can see it in the exaust system

I just flew my shiny new F-16 in VR for an hour over Honolulu with live traffic enabled. I escorted some Airbuses; buzzed an Icon A5 or two; and got into some turning “fights” with quite a few F/A-18s. This F-16 is awesome! I haven’t had this much fun in MSFS yet. Thank you SC Design.

Saw you flying there tonight (I was in an F-16C). PHNL seems to be quite a magnet for miljet flyers.

Before I visited Honolulu, I did the now-mandatory under-the-Golden-Gate run around San Francisco in the D model. Be sure to watch for the wingtip vapor trails and condensation effects while pulling up after the wavetop run. (About 3:18 - 3:50 in the video)

Yes, I saw your call sign and immediately thought, “ooh, there is another F-16! I want to catch up a fly formation!” But I think I overshot you in my excitement. And then like a dog seeing a new squirrel, an Airbus was in my sights and I was… well… off to get that new squirrel.

Looks like I forgot to add them, not a problem, will pop some in there from the texture folders today. You should be able to open the DDS files in say the Thunderbirds livery using free programs like DTXBMP for now, to access the layout for the helmets, patches etc, and then paint over the top to create your new livery :+1:

Awesome plane, and had a blast just hooning around in it yesterday - not even started looking at systems etc yet. Put the video below together as a bit of fun.

Couple of observations:

  • Reflections inside the cockpit glass seem to be lacking - to the point where is makes it almost look like there is no canopy - not sure if there’s a setting I can change in the graphocs options that can improve this or if it’s for FPS purposes etc
  • Getting a kind of white “corona” around the plane at times - I suspect when breaking the sound barrier - see 2:17 in the video - to me that doesn’t look very realistic, but it might be the limits of what’s possible in the sim

Really loving it though, especially the afterburner impacting the chase camera when you get the camera in the wake - gives a real sense of drama!

Hi, great video, love the sonic booms!

Yeah, I also don’t have much in the way of reflections, but I never have had and other people’s videos seem to show far more so I think it’s a setting thing in the sim, if anybody knows I’d love to find out too!

The halo is indeed a trans-sonic shockwave, early days yet with the effects system but I think it looks pretty cool for a first attempt

Love your work! Two requests: remove the third redundant compass and attitude indicators on the right console and bring the fuel quantity and flow meters together. I always thought this was the only flaw in the original F-16 design. Also, please rejig the sounds or give us a sound dampening switch. Something about your F-15’s and this beautiful F-16 just pierces my ears. There is a high pitched tone in the cockpit or engine sounds that is excruciating. Could be a me issue, but can’t hurt to ask. I absolutely love your PT-17 Stearman, btw, it’s perfect. Don’t change it. :grinning:

I noticed this really high frequency too at the F15, it`s really brutal to the ears after a while.

I use the equalizer that comes with my sound card to smooth it out.

I also turn down the master volume to around 45. I hope this helps.

I’m away from the sim right now but there’s a settings in Graphics called (I think!) WINDSHIELD EFFECTS that seems to affect reflections, rain on the glass, etc. On my new PC, set to 1440p Ultra, I don’t see very many reflections as such but I do see smears, or scratches on the outside of the canopy.

I had frost building up on the canopy today. Love the details!

Doesn’t completely solve the problem but it drastically helps. Try out flying with “headphone simulation” or whatever its called under the General / Sound / Communication Selection = headphone simulation.

This will act as a “noise canceling” headphone while in the cockpit. I personally fly all the jets like this, much more enjoyable on the ears in cockpit.
