Favorite Bush Planes currently available?

I’m a big fan of bush flying and have been having fun with the LHC Piper Pacer lately. The other planes I enjoy are the Big Radials Grumman Goose, the default Cessna 185, the default DHC Beaver and Twin Otter, and the Blackbox Sim Islanders.

What planes are you guys using for bush flights? Any recommendations, especially based on what my current favorites are? I’ve done a bit of flying with the Nordens and Xcub/NXcub as well, but not much.

Here’s my list of go-to bush flyers that I currently have in the sim:

  • De Havilland Canada DHC-2 Beaver (Blackbird)
  • Zlin Aviation Savage Cub (Asobo)
  • Państwowe Zakłady Lotnicze PZL-104 Wilga (Got Friends)
  • Zlin Aviation Savage Norden (Got Friends)
  • Cessna 170B Backcountry (Sal1800)
  • Cessna T206H Stationair (Sal1800)
  • Cessna 185 Skywagon (Carenado)
  • Companhia Aeronuatica Paulista CAP-4 Paulistinha (iniBuilds)
  • Cessna T207A Turbo Stationair (Carenado)

I keep coming back to the Double Ender again and again and again

STOL, dual engine, autopilot, very stable to fly hands off, wear & tear, failures, dirt accumulation and a great maintenance system. Also can be pretty rapid from A to B. Really does tick every single box.

Have similar feelings for the Rans S6S which has great avionics, dirt accumulation and state saving.

Don’t forget the Aeroprakt Vixxen from Got Friends has just realised too

I’ll check those out, thanks!

I mean need to try the Wilga!

The Wilga is great indeed.

The list of aircraft mentioned earlier in this topic is already quite complete, but I would like to add the freeware JPL Cessna 152 which has a taildragger with bigger wheels available, which makes it suitable for bush flights  These are not as big as actual tundra tires, but bigger than the original wheels anyways.

I would also add the freeware mods for the default Cessna 172 made by Bagolu, some of which are dedicated to bush variants of the plane, with many additional features and improvements. You can see the various choices here: Plane mods | BAGOLU

My favorite bushplane at the moment is the Rans S6. I love that it has engine realism, wear and tear and some cool small touches like being able check & refill oil, coolant and fuel manually.

Second one would be the Wilga. I’m a bit sad that Got Friends has moved away from engine realism and wear & tear in their more recent offerings since I would otherwise love what they develop…

@SAPDaube are these mods compatible with MSFS 2024? Can’t seem to find the info on that website…

Their latest versions are indeed compatible.

For the Bagolu C-172 taildragger, you can see the compatibility mentioned on the download page: Cessna 172 Taildragger | BAGOLU

For the JPL C-152, this one has to be downloaded from Discord if I’m not mistaken. I don’t have a direct link anymore…

I would also add the following for your consideration:

Aeroprakt A-32 Vixxen – Got Friends

It just released (like, fewer than 24 hours ago) and I haven’t actually flown it yet as I’m waiting for a Marketplace release to ensure Career compatibility - but Got Friends is generally considered a brand that I would purchase from blindly given their prior reputation of quality and fun products. Add on top of that that the reviews that HAVE come in for this one so far are all very positive. Check it out!

I’m excited for this one, saw some early reviews. Hopefully it’s on Marketplace soon!

I believe they estimated 1-2 weeks, so we’ll see.

I’ve all but decided to buy the Wilga later today… I’d never looked into this plane and it’s so cool and unique. I get a bit bored of the typical cub designs, as practical and efficient as they are.

This is an excellent aircraft. Very nice 2024 functionality. Fun yet challenging to fly.

An example for other developers.

This is how I feel about aircraft with the G1000 as the only avionics option - I understand its practical application in real world aviation and that its universality is a benefit there, but in the sim it just gets boring quickly and every plane starts to feel too similar.

I am excited to get this in the Marketplace too. It looks awesome, It was still flying at 23/4 kts. Thats almost walking speed! Definitely STOL bush plane.

I’ve been using the amphibian and “big wheels” version of the default Xcub recently. Really fun to fly around the coast of British Columbia:

I’m loving the Wilga! I don’t know what these three temp dials are though and I can’t seem to change them even when I adjust oil cooling.

The cowl flaps are connected with cyl head heat and the carb heat is carb air, but what should my oil cooling be at during normal flight?
