Yeah. A bit old-fashioned

Not in the US… still very common here

Really? I think I haven’t had a cheque book for 20 years. Even insurances and the revenue service have switched to electronic transfer by now.

Yeah, in fact, just bought a new car and paid by check

Most dealers here probably wouldn’t even accept a cheque anymore here. Mostly transfer - sometimes cash.

Every time I’m in line at the grocery store and some old schooler rummages about to find their checkbook, sloooowly fills it out, double-checks everything, carefully rips it out and proudly hands it over so the clerk can now spend extra time checking, marking and storing it, I have to take very, very deep breaths. Just swipe your ■■■■ card and let’s move this queue!

I haven’t seen anyone use a cheque in a shop for probably at least 15 years. Surprised that anywhere still uses them. I haven’t had a cheque book for over 10 years

Cheques are still A Thing in the UK, though we don’t really use them day-to-day. The last one I saw was when I received payment from an insurance company about ten years ago. All government departments accept them if you have to pay tax, driving licence etc, but no one ever does. This may be of interest:

All banks (AFAIK) still issue cheque books if asked, mine still does; I haven’t ordered any for donkeys’ ears, but I always remember asking for left-handed ones when I did! Cash, too, is becoming a thing of the past here; I can’t remember the last time I had any in my hand. I kept a few coins in my car for parking, but I don’t even need that now.

Anyway…
