I don’t know if you’re talking about real-time traffic or other people in multiplayer, but here are some Wishlist topics regarding players who spawn on the runway and sit there:
Exactly, all the more reason to have it off anyway.
It is so terrible when others won’t play the way I want them to in their own sim…
Vatsim or friends is one thing. But I’d imagine multiplayer is a free for all.
I couldn’t expect anyone spawning on the runway for the first time knowing what to do.
But plain old AI will trap you waiting for nothing.
It may be a problem for some but other than starting cold and dark what are the choices?
Air, runway, water runway…
OH… and turning off traffic!
Ahh ok…sorry I thought this was about live traffic!!
Starting on runway has a delay needed to set the craft to take off spec which is possibly 2-3 mins if proficient but if not well?
Last time I spawned on a runway (was supposed to be at a gate) my plane was fully set for take off.
Actually, I wasn’t sure if the OP was talking about live traffic or people occupying the runway. Both can be problematic.
The sim will reroute AI traffic to get out of your way or even in your way sometimes.
At one of my airports, there is a small, short runway by GA parking I like since I can park near the takeoff point. When I spawn at the parking, all the large jets coming in on the parallel ILS runway switch over to this little runway. They are way too large to be on this runway.
I also notice if I taxi to the wrong end of an active runway, the AI traffic on approach will change runways to match.
So there is some logic going on to readjust whatever is going on in the world with our actions.
I would probably make the call as a developer to not show multiplayer aircraft that spawned on the runway.
There is also the annoying vanishing airplane. Usually that’s what I’m holding for. But once it vanishes, ATC doesn’t clear you.
Everytime I start on or near a runway, my a/c is ready to go. I don’t have to sit there trying to figure out what to do next. Of course, I do not have to. I could just sit there and program my FMS and look at the scenery. That is why it is labeled as a game. But, I do not delay others that may be waiting for me to push the throttle to the firewall. So off we go, into the wild blue yonder.
When I start on the runway I don’t have my heading bug lined up or my altitude or my ias, no engines no flaps so it does take time. Not a lot but I still have craft flying over me, taxing through me etc, so how long should it take?
Every time I land I attempt to get off the runway before ATC asks me to “exit runway when able”. I usually succeed. The only thing I want to hear from ATC after I am cleared to land is “…contact ground on…”
However, I have yet to “shame” any other aircraft into this form of runway etiquette.
I doubt that you will ever be able to shame an aircraft into any kind of etiquette. Guess that is why it is referred to as a “Game”
…
The only place I have found to enjoy real “realism” is Vatsim. That was flying and realism that I really enjoyed in a very controlled environment.
Interesting topic. I turned off live traffic and multi-player over a year ago, so I never see anyone else. I always figured that no one can see me either. Correct?
You are correct: however, you will be the only human controlled plane in the entire world.
You will not see anyone else goofing around or simming… might be a bit boring to be the only human flying aircraft on the planet.

Not to me. Didn’t like other aircraft zooming around. Didn’t add anything to my ‘flying’. Found it disturbing.
