Getting a jump start on this one. We know that once FS2020 SU16 is out of beta and goes live, this means that FS2020 will share the same world and aerials as FS2024, and that the world that we have enjoyed and come to know so far in FS2020 will essentially cease to exist.
There are many threads and comments that have surfaced during the beta about the differences between these two worlds. Some people like the updated FS2024 aerials. Some people strongly prefer the current FS2020 world, typically due to the current FS2020 world offering more believable colours and sharper resolution.
Please give us an option in FS2020 SU16 to select our preferred world between either the original FS2020 or new FS2024 aerials. We know a LOT of work has gone into the terrain and textures and colouring that make up the pre-SU16 FS2020 world, and it would a shame to permanently lose it.
Later update from my clarifying comment below:
I don’t expect any developer to “maintain” a legacy version of their add-on. I don’t expect Asobo to maintain or update anything in the legacy FS2020 world. In fact I hope they leave it entirely alone. I just want the [on-going] option to continue using the legacy FS2020 world as-is, regardless of what third-party developers may or may not continue doing for that scenery set.

Why, in the first place, is this even being done? After all the work put into FS2020’s world, just throw it away and replace it with a new world that is half-finished? Where’s the logic…?

I would vote for an option. I’d wish to keep 2020 ground maps as they are and not a copy of 2024.

Yes I would like this option too.
With SU16 we lose Phoenix photogrammetry and Zurich is a mess.
I left this beta because they ignore these issues which got reported last november in MSFS24.
That’s a shame to bring these regressions into the old sim. Now they are in both sims.

Any comparative images that provide the differences between the two?
Here’s a comparison I posted in one of the beta threads discussing differences between the two world versions. You can see how the FS2024 aerials include a more accurate rendering of the local road network, but the colours in the original FS2020 world look more true-to-life.
But it will vary from region to region, and be different for everyone. It’s possible that colours in some areas of the FS2024 world are an improvement over the FS2020 world.

Worth noting that you will see color changes based on season in 2024 while seasons are not part of 2020.

What im wondering is how is this new terrain going to interfere with 3rd party add ons? With the work being done to update to 24, will they bother correcting induced issues back in 2020?

Please provide this option. Do not want to be stuck in MSFS 2024 cartoon color land in MSFS 2020.

As scenery is streamed your request would mean MS would have to maintain different versions of scenery which option I think is exactly what they want to get away from.
so I dont think this is going to fly. Just a thought.

Please do not force the fake looking 2024 graphics into 2020. It looks terrible. If you are going to do it at least give us the option to keep the current 2020 graphics as requested by the OP.

2020 has a serious case of overexposure, it looks like it has translucent white paper in front of you all the time. We just got used to it.
I’m not sure 2024’s imagery will change things as much as you’re all so afraid of. Even if it would actually be more realistic.

@DoutorFunga There is no need for this Seasons broken: Countries looks way to brown and desatured. Needs fix - #32 by SimSoaringClub in FS2020. It works just fine the way it is right now. Asobo can experiment with 2024; they should leave 2020 out of it.

Very true, I am a PC user but forgot about Console, To be honest I always have had the feeling that making the flightsimulator available on the console was kinda ‘forced’ on the team. Seems to me that the whole construct and framework of MSFS is unsuitable for console running and was always an unhappy fit. But thats just my thought. This scenery issue being yet another example.

Or you can look at console as a gateway experience for newbies
The reason this is being done is because it halves the server capacity needed for ground imaging storage at Microsoft’s end. Microsoft were always upfront that they aimed to move to one single source of image data in both sims, well before FS2024 was released. Most people at the time thought this was a good plan, because there was a lot of dissatisfaction about the quality of FS2020’s ground maps. I think this just shows you can’t please all the people all the time.
