FSDreamTeam GSX for MSFS

The update button is more like a “check for a possible update and download if available” kind of a thing.

but it always downloads files, no?

for me it does.

It looks like it doesn’t really compare the file version and is just downloading what is on the server.

It’s a terminology thing. It SAYS “Downloading” but if you open a network traffic monitor, it’s not, really. When it says “downloading” it’s really running a hash function across the installed files, checking the hash value for the version available on the server, and then only downloading data when the online file is newer than the one you have installed.

ok, good to know.

but how do I know when it actually needs to be updated or is updating? (as opposed to hashing and whatnot)

I don’t know. As I said this morning, the FSDT Installer application now has a button that lets you see the current release notes. If the notes are dated today, that’s a good sign you should update. Unfortunately, those are rather terse. I know they’ve fixed a lot of stuff not listed from past days, and sometimes put in multiple fixes over the course of a single day. So I just run it once in the afternoon after I finish work but before I’m going to fly.

One weird quirk of the updater/installer is that it seems to download a zip file of all the various Asobo/stock airport replacements. It looks like it downloads this zip and then extracts it and goes through seeing if all the individual airports need to be updated or not, and excluding the ones you’ve told it to before. This seems to run every time regardless of if there are other updates or not (at least it does for me). It might just be the case that because all the airports are in the zip, it gets updated every time. Dunno.

What’s the right way to set-up GSX for the FBW a32nx?

I unticked estimate passengers in the settings.

When i request boarding, there’s always just 1 passenger. But when deboarding at my arrival airport, GSX would simulate 176 passengers.

Do i need to already fully load the plane with passengers using the EFB before asking for boarding?

Does anyone know how to solve the problem when GSX says I need to stop my engines in the PMDG B737 although all engines are stopped and not running???

Even if gsx cannot open a menu, it obviously can deliberately close it. That is the inexplicable bit. No other menu fades away but sort of remains active. You then have to click once to completely stop the gsx menu and click again to start it.
That is what many object to.

Seem like it must be a PMDG problem, it is working as expected with the A320 Fenix

Issue solved, stupid user error

hello friends, I’m new to this forum, I’m telling you that I’ve already been using MSFS2020 for a while, I bought GSX pro and spent a week trying to make it work, but since I’m not a computer expert, I really couldn’t, I just stayed with the nice videos published by others Users who are lucky enough for this product to work, finally discovered that the (famous) Addon Manager folder does not match the MSFS Community folder because the game was installed on another hard drive, well I think that happened, I didn’t even have the GSX icon in my MSFS toolbar, that’s all I wanted to tell you,
sorry for my English

That is normal. The installer will place GSX in it’s own folders and create a “link” in the community folder. The installer is also showing you the path of the community folder it is using.

A very quick note here:

It’s not a problem if SOME files are “downloading over and over”. These are two specific ZIP files, the “Airport Services” and the “Scenery” files, which replaces Airport services and Jetways all over the world, which we now intentionally download each time.

These files, uncompressed, will expand into about 15000 files for the Airport services and about 1000 files for the jetways sceneries, but compressed they are just about 30MB each, so it’s actually faster to just always download the whole ZIP files each time, rather than hashing all your local files individually, to download only that specific file that has changed so, it’s entirely normal you’ll see THESE TWO downloaded “over and over”, without this being an indication of a problem with the node.

If you have OTHER files downloading “over and over”, it’s an indication of a problem with your local cloudflare node, which is of course solved by the Offline installer, but for the above two, it’s supposed to happen, and it results in a way faster update, since we skipped hashing for more than 15000 files.

These two files controls which operators and jetways you see on airports and, since these are planned to be updated quite often, it was important to be able to streamline the update for these two, and always redownloading the latest ZIP files has proven to be the most effective way.

Well, had another go at “updating” this morning and hey presto it finished after about another 2 hours! Have to say that the lengthy manual doesn’t give much info on how to actually use the programme, and I struggled for a while until I thought “let’s do a full restart” after which I finally got the GSX toolbar icon up at San Francisco, one of the “free” airports.
Once up and running it was quite intuitive and didn’t really need the manual for just getting going but no doubt once I want/need to start tweaking it’ll be useful. So I bought a registration and looking forward to playing with this, also trying out a few of the GSX Pro profiles that are proliferating on flightsim.to.
But so far looks good, even the updates are handled very quickly now, glad I persevered.

why passengers at airports from the marketplace are not visible when boarding the plane with the jatway?

One passenger goes on, but 176 come off? Someone definitely needs to check his carry-on baggage more carefully…

Marketplace airports are encrypted so GSX cannot read the required files it needs. That’s a well documented limitation of the program.

Here is what the official webpage description says: “ While GSX works automatically with every airport, it needs to read the airport .BGL file, which means, by default, airports bought on the MS Marketplace won’t work well, because GSX would use data from the default airport, since it can’t read the add-on scenery because of the Marketplace DRM encryption. This is not an issue for FSDT airports, becaue we’ll install a DRM-free version of the airport file automatically for all our sceneries but, for 3rd party sceneries, you might need to ask the original developers if they would be willing to make available a file with at least the basic airport data, which can be used by GSX when placed in the GSX profiles folder.”
