FSLTL or FS Traffic?

If you like your sim to take an extra two minutes to load, then FSLST is for you.

Ohh is that what it is. Take my sim so long to load, can’t put the finger on the faulty addon

I second the comment on AIG being much improved. Yes, the old process was a major pain, but the updated version is much easier to use. If you didn’t like the installation mess before but liked AIG otherwise, you should give it a try.

With the new AIG native models release, I wanted to find out if there really was an FPS advantage with any of the model addons so I did some FPS testing.

A 60 second taxi at a demanding airport, Brussels in the Fenix.

I used FSLTL injector for all 9 runs, 3 runs using AIG models only, 3 runs using FSLTL models only and 3 runs using FS Traffic models only.

Roughly 19 aircraft were injected at the terminal I was going past apart from one FS Traffic run which only had about 10 for some reason.

All gave very similar FPS in my system. I’ll probably just use AIG models as there’s more than three times the liveries of FSLTL.

Average FPS
AIG - 1 35.1804
AIG - 2 34.7626
AIG - 3 35.6923
FSLTL - 1 33.2835
FSLTL - 2 35.1988
FSLTL - 3 32.6539
FSTraffic - 1 36.5272
FSTraffic - 2 36.3357
FSTraffic - 3 32.7365

Great test, thank you. Did you try FPS of using AIG as the injector vs FSLTL?

No, I haven’t used AIG injector since FSLTL was released. I think there might be an update to AIG injector in the future so might give it a go then.

Very interesting test, thank you :slightly_smiling_face:

I just want to comment something. Before deciding stay with AIG traffic and unistalling FSTL and FSTraffic, I made a lot of tests and my experience is:

During taxi and take off from the departure airport (for example KDEN flightbeam addon) there is not big difference in performance between the 3 addons, but using AIG was sighly more fluid with no stutters at all. During flight the 3 addons are ver similar in performance, I couldnt notice any difference.

The big difference was during the final aproach to my destination (KLAS Fly Tampa addon). FSTL was the worst with a full festival of stutters, horrible experience. Then FSTraffic was better but stutters were present during the final approach and landing. Using AIG Traffic I didnt notice even one single stutter during the approaching and landing, stunning performance.

I repeated this test landing in another payware airports like MMMX, CYVR & KSAT and in my case I can confirm that the best performance when approaching and landing to the destination is AIG Traffic… by far the best!!! due to the simple fact of not having stutters at all.

All the tests using the FBW A320 addon.

Used AIG for a long time before a full reinstall of the sim, then went with Simple Traffic and default offline just for ease of install.

Have since tried FS Traffic, not a fan of it at all. Seen a few aircraft taxi and depart which was a positive, and arrivals at my destinations although notably only AFTER I have landed. En route traffic is thin, even on approach. It isn’t convincing, the config software feels like a free thrown together videogame mod that you downloaded from a megashare link posted on a forum in 1996 - and it’s buggy.

Summary:
I’m going back to AIG, it was the best out of all 3 and the best performance.

Simple Traffic is actually not that bad at all and if Asobo fix some stuff with AI Offline it would be the go to. Great performance.

FS Traffic gets some stuff moving on the ground at departure, and some stuff landing after your arrival, but everything else default offline does better in my experience. You are paying for the models and textures really.

Edit - AIG up and running, boy has this software come a long way since I last installed it! Smooth, easy, fast installation and works like a dream. Was surprised to see ground services on the move and attached to parked aircraft as well. Pushbacks, taxis and departures after a few minutes, all communicating with atc.

Guys AIG is made by folks who actually ā€˜get it’.

I was just about to ask how is the new update with AIG? I read it was supposed to fix a lot of the performance issues people had been complaining about since day 1.

Do the planes still just jump across the taxiway and runway? And do they actually climb on takeoff or just hover around the airport?

This should answer your question on performance improvements

Haven’ seen any skipping or jumping even with the older version, not sure what you mean?

Departures are climbing out in front of me and behind me.

79 ai aircraft active around EGKK, that’s just with the EU airlines installed. No issues, all plausible, believable, realistic routes, not just a new aircraft cheaply spawned in every couple of minutes like fstraffic does it.

Impressive stuff, this is much more like the older traffic programs (and in fact better in some areas like ground vehicles) for XP11 and FSX that seemingly these payware studios no longer have the skill, knowledge, staff or patience to come anywhere close to anymore.

How long did it take to install AIG? It felt like installation was glacial, and it kept stopping every time multiple models were available to, I guess, ask if I wanted to buy one? After about 2-3 hours I gave up…

The installation doesn’t prompt for anything anymore, it has been completely rewritten. I had the EU airlines installed in about an hour (ish). There’s a single button to just install EU, N America etc, or Global if you want all of them.

By default it is set to only install freeware aircraft. Remember it will ask you for your avsim login at the beginning so have that ready.

The installer is now very slick and professional looking. I’ve just installed the N America airlines, no issues whatsoever.

Aircraft lights and fx all work, contrails are visible from the ground although I don’t know if that’s AIG or Asobo recently fixed that.

Pretty blown away by AIG if I’m honest, I really don’t know what Just Flight are thinking, FS Traffic is a bunch of amateur hour scrap in comparison.

So the best online traffic right now is FSLTL, and the best offline traffic is AIG. And they are both freeware.

I will have to look into it again. I know FSLTL works flawlessly with FSHud, does AIG work with it as well?

I believe FSHud can work with AIG models but haven’t tried it, I’m waiting for the FSHud 1.4 update so that I can use it in VR. This would be a question for FSHud support.

it should work. We provided the documentation needed to implement it to the developer some time ago

Yes, it does. But on my system FS Traffic now surpasses them both in terms of sim performance and quality of the Ai aircraft. The only issue is FSHud doesn’t see or control FS Traffic’s Ai. I can live with this for now being as BeyondATC is just around the corner!

I hope so! And hope it’s not like one of those massive car test corners that never ends. Like the Nardo Ring

Working on my new traffic injection combo.

GAmod Settings
70% Traffic Generation

FSLTL Settings

FINALLY got AIG installed and, to be honest, it was a bear… Lots of freezes and crashes during the ā€œone clickā€ installation (which requires properly setting the baroque settings) and, TBH, I never would have made it to the finish line without eventually d/l’ing someone else’s full install from their Google Drive and updating that. Still currently, the Manager won’t indicate that flight plans or paints are updated no matter how many times I click the update button and download changes. For the average person, this is still FAR, FAR HARDER to install and manage than FSLTL.

Once going, though, it’s currently impressive and far better than FS Traffic as an offline option. I just checked KBOS late at night with AIG at 100% and here’s how FPS looked compared with FSLTL at my preferred performance settings (IFR 30, historic planes 3, planes at airport max 25, minimal diameter air and ground traffic).

No injectors: Landing at 50 FPS, airport taxi at 45 FPS
AIG: Landing at 40 FPS, airport taxi (almost every gate full!) 29-34 FPS and a bit stuttery. Right from the get go planes taking off and landing, with none of the ā€œlagā€ that FSLTL needs to seemingly get that process going)
FSLTL: Landing at 40 FPS, airport taxi at 42 FPS and smooth (far fewer planes at gate, but didn’t hit the max planes presumptively active IRL)

The AIG map is really useful, as it shows FSLTL traffic when its own injector is off. Amazingly, AIG was populating nearly all of coastal New England’s airports, which feels really unnecessary, vs FLSTL, which was only populating KBOS. I wish AIG had the granular control in settings that FSLTL has. Does nearly ever gate of the airport need to be populated at 1 AM?

And that’s the big hit AIG takes in FPS, near the gates. For an airport like KBOS or Denver where the runways are far from the gates, AIG doesn’t impact FPS landing that much and is similar to FSLTL despite more planes and traffic present. The big difference between FSLTL and AIG in landing FPS is at an airport like Phily or Laguardia where the runways are right next to the gates and FPS suffers there significantly in comparison to FSLTL…

Also, on a random international test of AIG at Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion airport, there was an El Al 747 at a gate and those were decommissioned back in 2019… Firing up FSLTL, no 747 in sight  .

Sorry but this is absolute rubbish. I clicked ONE BUTTON to install each regional airline.

I’m seeing a very minimal performance hit at the gates with AIG on or off and this is in VR.

It was installed and running with EU airlines in about an hour, maybe you didn’t read the instructions or maybe your OS is a complete mess or maybe you installed an old version, or maybe somebody paid you to come here and post that.
