In this video - Jorg clearly says the sim has a “full season cycle”. https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/8Rgrdn-ii2Y
We do not have a full season cycle. We have summer + a snow layer on top of summer textures. I think this should be brought to the attention of the team as it is clearly misleading.
I’m pretty sure they already know that … ![]()
Yeah, I did pick up on that in the video. Certainly, the default sim does not have that.
Yes! I should perhaps add “and be removed from the video”
I don’t think they’ll do that. Technically it is misleading but it’s a pretty minor thing: marketing is often about stretching the truth to the limit and this is no exception. After all we have a full two-season cycle year round. Noone ever said there would be four of them ![]()
Perhaps a thief or a ■■■■■■ can call themselves a “marketer” and stretch the truth to the limit so they can continue their activities indefinitely too.
At what point is stretching the truth not ok anymore?..when the wings don’t work in the sim, but we are told they do work?
OR perhaps.. they’ll put seasons in MSFS as a surprise, 27-juli ? I certainly hope they will.. the tundra would become much more interesting.. mountain landscapes would improve.. and of course, agricultural
We can only speculate.. MS/Asobo will decide. “Seasons” is #19 on the wishlist, with 532 votes atm, with a planning that sais 2022. When they promise it now.. maybe that planning was put backward ? Guess Asobo/MS would be in the position to e.g. incorporate some existing addin, like they did with Devil’s Tower.
How is a statement that isn’t true at all ‘stretching the truth’? What truth is there in the falsehood that could be stretched?
Although I will say, quite often in Q&As the team talk about things they’ve done that we haven’t seen yet, for example, they’ve been patting themselves on the back for performance improvements since April and, hopefully, we’re finally going to see them next week.
It’s as if the Q&As are from the future…
So if Jorg accidentally let slip that they now have seasons in their dev versions in this vid, then…let’s hope we see it before Christmas.
This was addressed awhile back in another topic, way back when this first came out (before we even had snow), and I think the answer was about the same time we get rotor craft. If you search the forums you should be able to find it.
I don’t like to deal in absolutes. Are there seasons in MSFS? Yes there are. Are there all four seasons in MSFS? No there aren’t. Does the whole world even have four seasons? No it doesn’t: basically the whole area between around 35°N and 35°S has no seasons at all, and in some areas like the Mediterranean seasons can barely even be destinguished from the air because the foliage doesn’t really change. So at least having a change between summer and winter can be considered having “a full season cycle”. That may not be what you and I would like to read out of the statement in the video, but it can be interpreted that way.
But honestly: MSFS has more serious deficiencies than the lack of autumn and spring.
Generally speaking: riding around some minor detail that was mentioned in a marketing video is so typical of today’s internet society. Every single word, every single little mistake and ever little minor slip of the tongue is recorded and analyzed forever - often by people who haven’t ever contributed anything expect sitting in the shadows waiting for the mistakes of others. It’s the social media equivalent of “camping” in a 1st person shooter.
Do you mean the snow? That’s not a season, but weather. Because there can be and there is snow in the summertime too sometimes. Not trying to argue just curious.
There’s some seasonality by default because of the astronomical model, which controls day length, and Live Weather, which gives you temp and precip type.
But when folks hear “four seasons” in the above promotional video from Microsoft, they’re expecting the landscape to also change accordingly. They’ve mentioned in past Q&A sessions that seasonality was an involved project (not an easy to do foliage texture change), and that they were going to do it properly, rather than some partial implementation.
You say that like it’s a bad thing. We finally have the tools to hold people accountable, like the snake oil salesmen, crooked politicians, and religious charlatans whose words used to just disappear into the ether.
Yep, four season variability is being worked on, and we’re going to get it eventually. If you all remember, promotional videos featuring Live Weather features and water masking also differed significantly from the release version. But Asobo eventually followed through and delivered. Seasons will be the same. It’s probably partially working on the dev builds Asobo is using, and in their heads, that’s the current state of the simulator. It’s as if they’re always talking about the complete version of Flight Simulator in these videos. I wish they’d state that more clearly, and label the game clearly as a WIP or early access.
Yes I do say that: as I said: everything has two sides.
In theory you’re right, but seeing it as a good thing only is naive. Firstly recent history has proven time and again that charlatants and snake oil salesmen are basically immune to proof of wrongdoing as long as their followers refuse to see the truth. On the other side currently each person who simply says or does something slightly stupid (and face facts: we all do that) or makes a casual comment which can be misconstrued or says something unpopular, can be caught on camera and villified and in extreme cases basically destroyed as long as the opposition controlling the narrative is more powerful. This has been happening before there was social media of course, but not as often and not as fast. I see this development as a danger to open discourse. Topics get so loaded and pushed into black and white that an opposing opinion sometimes is seen as close to heresy and compromise is a sign of weakness.
But we digress …
Its not ever a good idea to justify or defend lies and/or deception under any circumstance.
Just as a reminder to you, you live in absolutes every moment of everyday. For example, you have to breathe, that is an absolute. When you eat, that is an absolute…no grey areas at all in the most basic essentials of life. I challenge you to tell me how you can make these into a grey area. You can’t, so you do like to deal in absolutes.
Concerning statements made in the feature presentations; there is no way these were made live and unscripted. So in these cases they are absolutes. We are allowed to take them as either the truth or not. They could edit and/or make several takes, or do them over several times. They were not under duress or forced or compelled by customers or governments to make these statements.
Yes MSFS has some wonderful things about it, but it needed to have world wide accurate seasons and weather during early pre-alpha development, according to what the feature presentations state.
We’ll see if the can keeps on getting kicked.
That´s what has happened constantly since release day and what really annoyes me. Those shiny 4K/60 fps marketing videos, at a time where there literally was no hardware (and to that day still isn´t) to deliver that kind of quality. But that´s marketing, i s´pose…
Just to clarify folks (and thanks for the discussion), my issue is with the wording used in the video itself, and the words “FULL SEASON CYCLE” not the actual lack of seasons in the sim.
I know they are coming at some point, but Jorg talked about it as thought they are already here.
Well let’s just say I have different expectations in the world. I know that everyone wants to paint his product in the best possible light. I know that marketing and reality sometimes don’t match 100%. And sometimes they overdo it. But ask yourself honestly: would it have made a difference in your decision to buy MSFS just because it currently only has two seasons instead of all four?
The way MSFS is already very very realistic. It can be better and more realistic - sure. And I am sure they will continue working on it, as they have with a lot of other stuff. But still it’s visual rendition is lightyears ahead of everything else out there.
So I decided to be content with that and hope for further improvements and ignore the little marketing innuendos.
If you instead decide to continue looking for minor stuff like that and be dissatisfied when you find them, that’s your prerogative. Knock yourself out.
If the sim , as it stands, does not have ‘Full Season Cycle’…then why say it has?
No, there are no real seasons in MSFS and there are mistakes in the scenery where you have snow in a summerholiday area, e.g. Attersee in Austria.
But there is a mod, which is very helpful and brings real seasons to FS: Bijan’s 4 season packs. You can find it in this forum. I am very satisfied with it.
No Archer, it’s all 100% true. This Blackshark compression is fantastic ! Jorg sais my MSFS has 2.2 billion trees. These trees must be on my PC somewhere, Jorg sais so.. and he is the boss of MSFS.
Perhaps this four seasons means the servers can run in all seasons 24/7 ! Also when it is really cold.
In fact, when the release will be end of Juli, Asobo/Blackshark will have another 2 months to work on autumn and winter until the XBox-daddy brigade will start to complain they don’t see falling leafs in MSFS. Let’s have a Seasons Update. Remove all buildings and roads and cars, animate the trees ! Put the falling leafs in, a lot of flowers in Japan and a smiling Greta on all the liveries.. We fly zero emissions ! ![]()
