Id be nice if I could afford to move back to Nunavut YGT, YFB. I hate TX no Snow or Cold errrr. At least I can enjoy the HU16 in the Sim around the Nunavut/Nunavik/Greenland.
Used to live across the San Juans from you over in Bellingham. Amazing part of the world.
So it looks like the fixes didn’t make it into the last update either?
I suspect MS/Asobo have kicked anything except the most critical plane-breaking bugs to the curb until after the holidays in favor of getting the sim more stable and simply accessible for more people.
Today I’m going to try beaching the flying yacht Albatross G111.
Good luck and safe beaching! Let us know how it goes
@SlabsFly @MikeyAir3272 Beaching is fun in the Albatross, but does still require a bit of make-believe and good timing on the gear.
The water in the sim is still only 1 metre deep, so lowering the gear too early will lift you out of the water and let you “drive” on it. This is a very very old sim bug, one which will hopefully get fixed in 2024 at some point.
Have fun!
I could be wrong, but I noticed that the Albatross seems to sit a little high in the water. Is that because every body of water is actually pretty shallow and it bottoms out?
@FndrStrat06 It depends on the water location (water in photogrammetry areas is very bugged currently) and the weight of the plane. Buoyancy in FS is far from perfect, so at lower gross weights it might feel a little high in the water, and at high gross a bit low. Everything here comes down to compromises, for now anyway.
Another fun clip from the “Flying Boat” film…
Of all the silliest ways to turn dinosaurs into noise… this one is up there.
Im loving the Videos of the Goat Life. For me Ive always loved them up in the Freezer above the 60th. Yeah windows open piloting on a -35F in trunks and shades, with hot Coffee and Cigar with a rum chaser warm. Land/Park go ice fishing use the herman and cast iron, yep fish fry ala Goat Hotel Arctic avoid the Ice Holes.
I’ll sing with the choir here, I have not yet tried all planes yet (huge Aviators version), but the HU16E is the best surprise so far, it’s really good.
One question : I do all my hardware setup externally (AxisAndOhs), I found every Simconnect var/commands I was looking for (thanks for the many IE: vars by the way) except the supercharger speed. Is there one I missed ?
Thanks,
Haddock
@Haddock314945 Thank you for the kind words, I’m glad you’re enjoying it!
For the supercharger, try changing the local variable (L:XMLVAR_Supercharger_Handle). Setting that to 1 should engage high gear, use 0 for low gear (default), and it should set the handle position appropriately.
If that doesn’t work please let me know and I’ll try to help another way.
Cheers!
Thank you, it works when I add the unit (L:XMLVAR_Supercharger_Handle, Number) ; it’s an AxisAndOhs thing I guess, L: vars without units are considered local variables and not sent to the sim.
I really enjoy this detailed aircraft. Full of character.
If anyone wants to take for a test, try recreating the rescue of the Cathay Pacific DC-4 off Hainan in on July 23rd 1954.
The Cathay Pacific DC-4 had taken off from Bangkok heading for Hong Kong (British colony at the time). Suddenly of Hainan two PLAAF fighters attacked the plane. In spite of being severly damaged the captain managed to ditch the plane and 10 persons escaped into a life raft near Dazhou Island close to Hainan. Rescue planes were sent from British Hong Kong, French Vietnam along with two American Albatrosses from the Philippines. With a strong wind and 3 metre waves the British Sunderland seaplane could not land, but one Albatross could land on the leaward side of the Island and taxi to the dinghy to save the people inside. Using JATO equipment to take off the Albatross flew to Kai Tak in Hong Kong.
To recreate the flight set up an afternoon fligth with at 26 knot wind from the East and take off from Clark Air Base in the Philippines (RPLC) head for Dazhou Island (18,6615° N 110,4883° E). Land on the leaward side of the islands and taxi to the other side. With the passengers rescued proceed to Kai Tak, Hong Kong, avoiding Chinese territorial waters.

Hey, maybe already asked but I couldn’t find it. Any chance there will be an anchor? Asking in regard to functionality to stay put in the water, although a visual would be cool on top of it and coolest of all would be a visual with it staying put-ish but swinging at anchor like a boat, or is there not a mechanic for that?
So the leeward is actually simulated? Interesting, have to check that out! Thanks for the inspiration.
EDIT: Ok it really seems to work; in the pic the wind is coming from the left, where the sea is more rough and of course the waves are breaking at the cliffs, while on the right it is a bit softer.
But: I am not sure if it is actually calculated on wind behaviour or just a simple “there is some land on the map so on the other side it has to be more calm”-thing. Between the two islands is a little sandbank that shows the same effect, although there is no elevation.
Fun fact: I beefed the wind up to the brutal max and noticed we got bending trees now in FS - I think we didn’t have that in 2020, did we?
The mentioned sandbank, the wind is coming with ~140kts from left to right. I didn’t expect it to be washed over by the waves but I really think the effect is more based on land vs. water than actuall wind calculated blowing over structures.
Notice the bending trees
I have a Stream Deck that display wind force etc. and it seems the wind seem to be softer on the leaward side.
This was on the wish list…
Tests so far have been successful, so this should (barring any new issues) be coming with update #2.
Cheers.
