HDR is non functional in [Testing both DX11 and DX12]

Ok HDR is working and omg. After playing these past few weeks in SDR I totally forgot what it feels like to play with hdr. Just mind blowing…so much depth in colors. I have a LG C1 Evo.

@FinalLightNL HDR is currently not implemented properly in the live build. That 10000 nits peak brightness for a sun source should not be there to begin with. Watch this video

Tried best to capture this with my cellphone but you can definitely spot the difference. There is a visible difference in the depth of colors and the overall dynamic range.

Anywho, not fixed :stuck_out_tongue: back to the testing table Asobo.
Hope whoever is in charge of HDR will fix this before launch.

Well all I can say is it looks amazing again on my LG C1 :ok_hand:

You don’t understand, the 10000 nits indeed should not be the standard value correct.
But 300 nits in HDR in direct sunlight is NOT hdr.

Don’t confuse your TV tonemapping for HDR to be working.

My SDR screenshot is 13.5mb in size and my HDR screenshot is 17mb in size!

Duplicate!

Have you got a monitor that is capable of 10000nits?
My monitor goes to about 450 and looks pretty good to me when in HDR mode.

looks pretty good is different from it’s actually working.
i won’t argue with anyone but it’s not fixed and i showed factual proof of this.
i rest my case, the rest is up to Asobo.

It seems the same as i remember in SU9 to me, but if as you say it was 10000nits there i wouldn’t be able to notice it with a monitor that only displays about 450.

Are there monitors that go to 10,000?

that is not the point of all this, the sim simply peaks at 350-380 nits now.
TV users won’t notice this much as there is internal processing going on called tonemapping.

Monitor users will notice this more that have a quality HDR capable monitor.
In your case it seems to be a 450 nits likely HDR10 capable monitor without any local dimming zones.
We call those marketing HDR these days, they are not capable of doing HDR properly.
They just recognize the signal.

let’s say for example you are on a Asus ProArt display that does 1600 nits, a decent HDR mastering monitor.
you’ll notice the sim being quite alot dimmer than when it peaked at 10000.
cuz now it tries to process this 300 nits signal and output it with what the display is capable of, which just displays the image wrongly.

with the 10000 nits issue we get blown out specular highlights.
an HDR slider and paper white / tonemapping point sliders can help with this.
For example some games give you the choice to adjust this to your monitor specs.

at this moment in the beta the sim does not process HDR properly even tho some of you claim it does.
It can confuse the developers, so i suggest the lead dev in charge of this should get a shot in jxr / exr and check it’s data for peak luminance.
it shows instantly that it’s giving the wrong luminance signal.

My screenshots are coming up with a max of 9849 nits looking at the sun, and looks ok on screen (on my display with limited 400 nit max brightness).

SDR screenshot of my HDR screenshot viewer showing the metadata:

that’s very strange, i get mid 300’s average looking at direct sunlight.
i’ll give dx11 a try.

I have a 65 inch TCL TV with specifications for HDR and Dolby Vision.

Windows states that the HDR capability is for peak brightness at 1499 nits.

Before the latest updates, FS2020 looked great.
Whiter whites and blacker blacks.
But what was outstanding was the vivid colors now displaying with HDR10.

Windows states that for alot of TV’s, you can change that with CRU to your TV specs.
Will help with some AutoHDR moments.

@Vibstronium took another shot in DX11, shows the correct values now.

Ok, so we an confirm that it works! – sometimes. :wink: But it does seem a bit flaky, often requiring bumping your window around and sometimes it doesn’t stick right. ;_;

aye i retract my earlier statements, it works.
my method of checking was the fault.
i put the .exr file in there instead of the .jxr file

guess i’m a bit tired haha

following this posts I’m askink myself if HDR is working? I hadn’t the chance to test myself…

Well its visually back to where it was in SU9 for me.
So apart from having to go into windowed mode and moving the window about a bit it seems ok

One hundred times THIS!

I’m on Xbox Series X, using Dolby Vision. Installing Sim Update 10 Beta again to check if everything is OK, but after all this recent hours discussion, I’m 99% sure it will work.

Anyway, a slider is insanely essential these days. Dolby Vision would be even better, since there’s no official support here for it, and we could increase the peak brightness a bit to squeeze even more highlights, as we must do in other games when using it.

As an example, we must set 1000 in instead of 800, at least for LG CX and LG C1, in order to achieve the very maximum capacity peak brightness for Dolby Vision.
