Helicopters are hard

well…yeah…a stick with a twist axis might be still more useable than a xbox controller. Could get my controller out and should try but i guess, without any helpful AI there isn’t fun at all.

Helicopters are a totally different animal to fixed wing aircraft. https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/Xe2atAK_qak No question. Check out the anti-torque pedal deflections at the previous YouTube video link & the counter-roll cyclic as we lift off a carrier in Vietnam, just to fly straight & translate into flight from ground effect against a modest cross-deck breeze…it requires constant & small control deflections - & then immediate, continuing & small counter controls to counter your previous inputs to the cyclic, collective & A/T pedals then so-on. (PS not recommended to call them rudder pedals - that’s a hefty bar tab & rank has always been dis-regarded on that). Since the 60’s & '70’s most Western helicopters have had a form of FADEC auto-throttle.

Just to confirm that the 407 doesnt have SAS system or a AP right?

I’ve never flown a 407 & only sat in the back as human baggage on similar birds - but I seem to recall SAS was introduced in the late '80’s on a UH-60 test-bed that led to the Commanche / Apache advanced Block development program about 29-30 years ago - never set foot in an Airbus heli - no idea. Why on Earth would you want to learn to fly choppers in MS FlightSim with SAS & Auto-pilot? Surely that’s the whole point ?

this discussion makes no sense. Please, stop your deaf dialogue. there are two separate topics:

a) players whose game is working properly. The helicopter gameplay is realistic and very easy to pick up for any player accustomed to simulations. (I played at a friend’s house on xbox one, the helicopter is really easy to fly I assure you).

b) Then there are the players whose profile is affected by a bug concerning the physics of the helicopter. There, the device is demonic. Impossible to control even for an experienced pilot. Guaranteed crash within 15 seconds. I reinstalled the game. I put the default settings. The bug is still there…

So please stop confusing the piloting difficulty which is normal for a simulation and works perfectly fine, even easy with an xbox controller! And the failure suffered by players whose mastery has nothing to do with the loss of control.

Sorry for my bad english ^^

Hi certainly didn’t mean to offend…at the end of the day we’re all MSFS pilots - whether Sim, private or professional - or a mix. It’s all about the fun & realism- for me. I’ve never used an Xbox so I couldn’t possibly comment on your bug comments my friend & if I caused you any offence then I humbly apologize. Cheers.

… just to confirm by the way this is not just an Xbox problem, with PC for me this problem is very real…

I’m not sure I follow you guys…it’s flying sweet & true & quite realistically ‘difficult’ for me…but as ‘They Say’…that’s ‘copters’…

:0 that’s mean You have no problem. But we do have

Well Mr. Pizza Monster (love the name by the way). My advice would be to upload a video or techs of your specs - I read several comments that X-Box controllers etc might need a tweak…keep on flying & I’m sure the glitch will be fixed. Cheers !

Hello all again,

pls check your assigments on your all devices used for aircarfts control, not only helicopters. I’ve discovered very strange thing, within Bell 407 flight I saw very strange feeling at that time. It was like my heli doesn’t respond to my colective control as expected and did strange movements if I want compensate with pedals. So I’ve checked my pedals profile for sure and what a surprice heh I had there with pedals movement defined also colective movement, what a strange thing! I’ve checked all for sure and now it flies without problems and very good with max realism. Really, I don’t know what was happened but every Update I saw inside Forum some people described some problems with some very strange behaviour, generally with feeling of aircraft. Do all checks for sure and save possible changes!

Great advice OMICO4146…those folks on X-Boxx seem to be having a hard time, are you seeing any issues with engine RPM from twist-grip RPM & push / pull collective ? Seems OK for me & cyclic feels OK. I read somewhere earlier that the 407 in MSFS doesn’t ‘carry’ proper inertia from CG / TOW / W&B into a loaded or for that matter un-loaded (potentially mast bump scenario -G push-over ?). Not tested enough. Certainly gave her a decent wringing out in the 'Nam video posted above. House hunting for a few days…busy busy…

Just to say I don’t think this bug is related to improperly setup controls/sticks. Even If I disconnect all usb devices except keyboard and mouse, and set them to default control schemes it is the same.

If I try to take off manually in either of the new helis, they immediately roll more and more violently until flipping over.
Exactly the same scenario on my husband’s computer results in a relatively stable flight. We have the same sim settings including heli assistance options, and I have even tried reinstalling the sim from scratch.

Please don’t tell me that it’s not a bug and that I need to “get good” or “that’s just how helis are”. I’m the same pilot sitting on 2 computers and seeing wildly differing behaviours.

That can explain the different results among users. People should check the controls assignments, even after using presets. Maybe that´s just the reason (a wrong axis assignment). To be honest I don´t trust the User Interface and the cloud saving features for the controls. They are still buggy and some settings are not saved correctly.

Cheers

Hello,

hmmm I can tell you that maybe little different change of Sensitivity of control device can make different feeling of aircraft control. If you have same settings (somehow I’m not sure about that) and feel differently, you can’t have same settings. Really try look carefully. I just play inside Controls menu and check whats new with helis are there and set some controls for test but definitelly didn’t set collective to my pedals  how this strange cfg was set in my pedals profile hard to say…

I think you nailed it right there…this smacked of a ‘control setup’ issue from post #1. I wish my ‘cyclic’ wasn’t spring-loaded…be SO much easier if it wasn’t self-centered with the spring return.

heh

I did now my first autorotation landing with B407  without problems at first attempt! It looks really good to me but I expect some next tweakings of course.

Yes agree,

I have same stick (Metalstrike???) with spring centering, as usually that types of joysticks but feels ok to me for some long time now…

Tried to open an Zendesk request to investigate about our Xbox controllers bugs and like a mistery, all my tickets are marked as solved

How it was solved if’s just submitted

Geez, patience needed

Solved means that they see your post and know about that.
