Yes

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:

Hello @SealedVolcano50,

Is this a regression from SU9? Or has it always been this way?

Thanks,
MSFS Team

I am not sure, it’s definitely a regression after su 7 as high overcast is imposdible to find

If this is not a regression from SU9, then this topic should be placed in the regular Bug Reporting or Wishlist forums. As a friendly reminder, the purpose of the SU10 Beta is to:

• Verify stability and performance improvements
• Ensure that the release notes are accurate
• Identify regressions that may have taken place due to code changes
• Provide an opportunity for 3rd party developers to test their products in a Beta environment

Thanks,
MSFS Team

Could move it please?

Hi there,
I moved this. I also removed the pc tag, as I see that you are on Xbox. We ask that people only use tags for platforms that they have specifically tested the issue on. It is possible for any kind of bug to happen on any platform and not others, so adding an extra tag could make it very difficult for someone to trace the issue.

Can i just had that extensive high clouds coverage/overcast is non existent? We used to have beautiful gray overcast of high clouds, especially in winter and high latitudes, now they disappeared since su7?

Agreed, haven’t seen a high level overcast using live weather since SU7.

Oh and you could add the PC tag back, as I’m on a PC and I concur with both the original sentiment that high clouds need some work (that’s putting it mildly!) and also the latter point, high overcast is non-existent since SU7.

High level clouds never look as convincing as lower altitude cumulo types.

On a group flight the other day I was particularly impressed by what I saw:

Until I looked straight up:

That looks straight out of Minecraft.

There were less blocky, right angled cloud elsewhere, but other than the obvious something else struck me. The clouds appear to be inverted. They are completely transparent in the centre of their structure, and they get thicker at their edges.

Had another example on a flight from C16 to Meigs Field.

These high level clouds are so bad I would recommend removing them entirely until they can be replaced with something better. It looks so odd that they thicken up at their periphery like that. I was climbing to FL250, and they were still way above me.

Wow, can’t say I’ve seen this. What GPU and DX version you running?

3090 FE with DX12.

This isn’t an artefact of my system as far as I know, just how the sim displays high level clouds.

I’ll have a play later with custom weather, and see what I can make it look like by hand.

same what the devs says sometimes. that could be a case of not playing enough or not testing properly. the first step is to agree there might be a problem and investigate with that in mind. if they think all is good and must be the players fault then its that much harder to solve.

I think they are supposed to represent cirrostratus, or cirrus, but doing a really poor job of it.

This is about as good as I could do.

Some beautiful high cloud over the UK this evening

Today we have this high overcast across the whole of the Midlands:

And what do we see in the sim (roughly same location)? Of course, blue skies and puffy clouds, the same as every other day.

Live weather still as broken as it was the day SU7 was launched. I would love to hear an explanation as to why the sim is incapable of rendering a high overcast layer in live weather? Is it dumbing down for x-box as a lot of us expect to save FPS, or is there a technical reason. If they would just be honest and tell us once and for all, I think we could all perhaps move on.

By the way, this is an example of how a high overcast looked in live weather before SU7, for those who don’t think there is anything wrong. Makes me want to cry.

Yeah noticed today the high cloud is just not represented accurately again, yet yesterday evening it looked stunning. Still as inconsistent as always sadly.

That does look good! :ok_hand:
