How bad is Australia!

I assume your joking right as it looked nothing like it? nor did any of the buildings in that area. I just went for a fly down incase they fixed it and nope it has an office block in its place instead lol

haha i know right! i saw that when i first took off from melbourne airport thought it was a video driver glithch untill i flew over to it and saw Melbourne has the wolrds tallest building in the world.

Must indicate no one from flight Simulator has even flown in melbourne in all the developement to have noticed it..

To be honest, from that screenshot, Melbourne is not that bad. I’ve seen worse. For example I hate how Los Angeles looks, with the photogrammetry. I prefer the buildings generated by the AI, and I’ll probably disable photogrammetry completely.

With photogrammetry any buildings and trees at a distance look like pyramids and other strange shapes, until you get close and it streams their details. And any glass buildings have pictures of reflections on them, instead of actual reflections, so they look like they have corrupted textures. All in all, it’s like there was an alien invasion or something in LA

But yes, the marketing before the release has been a bit over the top, making people expect more than was actually delivered, even ignoring the bugs.

Ballarat looks great

try flying over the great barrier reef LOL…non existent.

There are tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of towns and cities across the planet. Do you expect the developers should have flown over every single one of them multiple times during development? That’s not exactly scalable.

This was explained in the developer Q and A on Twitch during launch week https://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/GM4fVwsEdaw

TLDR: the water masks have to be added manually, this is happening but it takes time.

The glass is half full, or half empty, depending on who’s asking.

My question is: How good is Australia?

Took off from YSSY and did a simulated low-fuel emergency landing at a not-so-well-known airfield (anyone ever heard of Mangrove Mountain Airport, YMVM?). No charts or in-sim VFR map. Relied on the G1000 solely to find it. The overall experience and accuracy of the scenery from all altitude level was mind-blowing.

If you think the glass is half-empty, it will always remain half-empty to you.

That’s all well and good but the GBR is one of the worlds 7 natural wonders, hosts over 5 million people a year…if anything shoulda been hand done before any reef in jamaca.

Patience my friends. Australia will be eventually fixed in MSFS. And then everyone will want to fly here, just like everyone wants to come here IRL! Cheers.

PS: keep up the zendesk reports to keep pressure on them!

No doubt it is on Asobo’s hit list, but please file a support ticket using Zendesk (link in the navbar) to mention that the reef is missing.

Nope. I’m not going anywhere near until you guys get the Drop Bears under control.

I know how it works. Feed them tourists so you all can get away. I’m not falling for that. Nope.

Here’s a list of the Photogrammetric / Photorealistic cities in Australia:

  • Canberra
  • Darwin City
  • Gold Coast
  • Hobart
  • Newcastle
  • Wollongong

Taken from here:

It does seem an odd set of choices, it may be driven by the data the Bing Maps team had available. They need more than just the widely available top down satellite photos for the full photogrammetric cities.

Yep, I’m lucky that Newcastle looks amazing!

I apologise for the off topic, but this has to be said…

Last year a friend asked me if I was going to Sydney for Eve Down Under. My response was to him an article listing Australia’s 10 most deadly animals

Personally, Australia has never looked better. Sydney Harbour and Melbourne CBD are less than 1% of the country. The country doesn’t just revolve around these two cities especially when it comes to aviation. Get out and explore, you’ll be surprised what you find.

Here’s a few photos from far north west QLD. Prior to MSFS, there was literally nothing here. Now it’s breathtaking.

ah, that probably explains your tag then.

That middle shot does have a uniquely Australian ‘brown’ to it.

I may have said this on another post, or another forum, but I wouldn’t mind seeing an ORBX Australia pack for MSFS with improved Skylines around the cities, improved trees (with a focus on Eucalyptus trees) and possibly even improved Satellite mapping, if they can strike a deal with NearMap.

Unfortunatly, I suspect, looking at a few of the addons that have come out so far, each individual item will be a $20 pack, rather than a better value mega pack sadly.

“How bad is Australia”??? Really? Just because some Landmarks are missing? As a non-aussi flying over your beautiful country is just breathtaking real in that sim. I had flashbacks all the way since my last IRL sightseeing flights are 10 years back. Landmarks will come for sure. Lets talk this in one year…
