How I hate this! (windows file permissions / community folder)

As I hate that Microsoft blocks the simulator community files, I would like to move all the 288 files that I have downloaded, but I cannot move a single file, all I have to do is delete everything, and reinstall everything from 0 so that the simulator after an update starts me again, and adding an extra, not even the files deleted to the recycle bin can be recovered because I cannot even recover them because of you.

and also after installing the update it gives me the error 0x80070102 with which I can’t continue after updating the simulator and I can’t start it as I normally do either.

Now I have to play another simulator, I don’t know about trucks, it will be either the x-plane 11 or 12 to be able to continue with my flights, with which those two flight simulators do have to move the files to make a copy and put them back on the folder once the game is updated, or not, while the flight simulator has been completely updated and I have the mods or addons on, the game works perfectly and I don’t have any problems with the simulator addons, now what I have to do is delete everything, and reinstall everything from 0.

Now I have to wait to find all the files again and install them again and put them in a folder for it to have them as a complete backup of those files, and I will have to update those files from the backup and make a copy and paste so as not to lose any of the files that I have downloaded.

What do you have your folder permissions set to? Making sure you have full control of the folder is an important step. Installing MSFS or the community folder into a drive other than C: is a good idea as well.

MSFS does NOT block the community folder, nor the packages folder at all (I do move contents of this folder all the time!). This is entirely a problem of your windows setup and not having the correct permissions.
Main reason for that could be, that you do not have the correct access rights. Per default, as a normal user, you do not have access to the folders where the apps are installed (no write access). To do so you need to be admin.
Therfore as @anon44786522 already mentioned, installing the data files to the app folder on c: is not that of a good idea.

regarding the error, search the forum, this might help you: Error code 0x80070102

Another possible reason: The sim is running, AFAIR you can’t move files while the sim has the files/directories mounted in its internal file system.

Can’t check it rn as I am not at home. Please correct me if that information is wrong.

I think you have the wrong community folder there, it says “local cache” but I think the actual community folder is somewhere else (I forgot the default location I’m afraid).
That could be the reason, because as the others said, the community folder is not locked at all when MSFS is not running, you could simply rename it, update the sin, then rename it back. I can also recommend a free tool called “MSFS addon linker” to assist you in managing your mods, you can find it on flightsim.to.

That’s a Windows file permission/local account security level thing.

Nothing to do with MSFS at all.

At least the first image is the official installation folder of MSFS. You should not manipulate anything in there via Windows Explorer. If you want to uninstall or install something there, then via the Content Manager directly in MSFS. Otherwise you destroy your installation. In the community directory you can delete and copy as you like, but not in the installation directory. At least not if you don’t know what you are doing.

Look, there are plenty of things to gripe about with regard to MSFS and how Asobo have chosen to implement certain features at the expense of others, the weird performance issues with long flights, et cetera …

But a generic Windows file security issue isn’t one of them.

Hi @santiagofsx, If you don’t mind, I changed the subject of your post from: “How I hate this!” to “How I hate this! (windows file permissions / community folder)”.

This goes along with the forum guidance that “The title should be clear in its intent and focus on the topic at hand”, and has the added benefit of helping others with similar questions search for relevant topics. Thanks!

I am having exactly the same issue now, cant move or copy or do anything with the community folder, may I ask how was this issue was solved? Where do I tweak the “organization” permmisions within windows so I can move community subfolders to another drive to free up space in C:?

Psssst. There are free programs out there, that will let you copy folders from anywhere on your PC to anywhere on your PC, regardless of “permissions” or “encryption.” Check the googles.
