I still split my time between 2020 and 2024. For airliners, 2020 is still my default choice, but I’m sort of enjoying career in 2024 and flying helicopters more than I did in 2020, due to the improved scenery. Flying helicopter rescue missions in the Alps provides some visually stunning scenery, now they have a way to hide the stretched aerial imagery.
I appreciate you like the nicer scenery in 2024. For me the functionality of aircraft is more important. Once I get this I will also want the nicer scenery. Until then I use 2020.
Still doing some group flights in 2020, but other than than that all in 2024 now!
2024 made me take a break from MSFS
same here
i dont know why though
because after the state of FS2024 trust in Asobo is gone.
I have to say, I’m inclined to agree.
FS24 has so many problems that I decided to save myself the headache and uninstall it, since 2020 is just fine.
I can’t seem to motivate myself to load up 2020 though. I would be lying if I said I hadn’t considered selling my gear and leaving the hobby behind, because I spent plenty of time tinkering with 2020 over the years, and I’m not sure I want to do that all over again.
I am sticking to 2020 happier than ever I guess. Just upgraded to 9800x3d from 5800x3d and things are smoooooth.. even the FBW A380. I can stick to this for years if MS in their infinite wisdom doesn’t decide “fix” things in 2020. Please MS, LEAVE it alone.
Oh, and MSFS 2024 is in the virtual attic at the moment until it’s stable enough. Still i am not sure if I can force myself to contend with the horrendous UI. May be I’ll since I really like the new ini planes and a few others like the Albatross.
they are both imo. MS is the boss, gives the money, holds all contracts. but Asobo is not out of the picture. if you see that some bug fixes cause new bugs to show up, this indicates to a) complex coding structures, b) possibly intransparent and unclear Management cometences and responsibilities and c) lack of internal communicaton between the teams.
Steve Jobs once said, at a certain level reasons stop matter. and he is right. we dont care why it has bugs or this or that does not work . or if they stop working for 2 weeks.
I find myself having more fun than ever in 2020. I’ve got this route from CYQQ to KSEA that is great at sunrise or sunset, and it’s just long enough for a good airliner run. I’ve avoided them for so long, and now I love a good autothrottle.
Get the eJets from FSS AG on sale now in the Marketplace. There’s the great sounds of Van’s RV-8 in the morning. Put 6 inches of snow on the ground. Winter wonderland.
To me, I havent even bothered with fs24…The downgrade in certain aspects is unacceptable. Specially, I hate the unrealistic colors and the downgraded clouds rendering (simpler, waayyy lower quality rendering distance, badly illuminated, simpler atmospheric depiction, etc.), they only look ok from below at close distance but thats all. Not to mention the over all awful state of mess of the software, full of bugs.
They didnt even fixed yet (present already in the test alpha) the windshield effects bug from the menu
(it restarts from high to med for no reason)…It feels like they just dont care at all.
Tbh, Im REALLY surprised about how extremely bad they are handling the “new” simulator. It feels like they hate it too.
There was no point in releasing a new sim in the first place, but thats another story.
So yeah, I couldnt care less about fs24…for me, a total mess to date. On the other hand, what really made me enjoy FS20 was the incredible GLOBAL, smooth, incredibly beautiful live weather model from meteoblue back in the first year of fs20, metar just killed all that…Im feed up of waiting for a solution to the live weather clouds looking horrible most of the time since SU5 for FS20…at this point it seems like it will never happen so right now Im done with both, fs20 and fs24.
Ms Asobo have to be able to see in live time those using both sims. I can’t imagine mfs24 has a higher user base and daily usage than 2020 currently. The numbers will speak for themselves and msobo will have to realize they screwed this up big time. I haven’t even bought fs24 yet and won’t until I see substantial improvement, working add-ons from 2020 as promised, and a lot of reports from users that things are better. Until then I’ll continue to use fs2020 and not even think about fs24 as an option, probably for a very long time yet.
The only way to get the devs attention is to not switch to the new sim and to not even buy it. Money talks
The sim was not ready for release as a stand alone. I think the decision to make 2024 as stand alone new sim was taken later during development of 2020.
They thought it will work well and fast.
It might have just brought catastrophe on all.
Will see.
Recommendation is don’t buy it…I hear of class action coming…That would be fitting.
I’m on Xbox X. I pre-ordered 2024 Premium Deluxe. I gave it a few honest attempts, but did not get far past trying to fix controller settings. CTDs trying to fly.
Clean install of 2020, and have done a few flights, working ok in 2020.
The last big class action lawsuit for a game was against Projekt Red for the terrible Cyberpunk release, but that was brought by investors. I expect MSFS2024 was entirely funded by MS, so I’d be surprised at any sort of class action lawsuit.
The only Microsoft class action lawsuit I’m aware of relates to their OS licensing costs for Azure servers.
Couldn’t agree more.
Especially with the clouds. The clouds in the distance are absolutely so much worse than in 2020.
It’s simply beyond belief that they release a new sim that is worse than the old one.
I just don’t understand it, it’s so so disappointing.
Has anybody even seen these?
Free aircraft as an apology…
In a gesture of goodwill, the team announced that four additional aircraft will be made available for free to all MSFS 2024 users. The first two aircraft—the Cessna 185F and the Embraer Paulistinha—are confirmed, with the latter releasing alongside the delayed World Update: Brazil in early 2025. The remaining two aircraft will be announced later.
Neumann described the move as an effort to “make up” for the frustrations players faced, while also reaffirming their commitment to delivering a world-class simulation experience. anybody?
I’m right there with you. The VR performance in 2020 is much better than in 2024. I have shelved 2024 until I hear they fixed VR. Too bad I bought the most expensive version of 2024 (Aviator), I should have simply waited. In protest, I won’t be buying anything from the marketplace until things are sorted out. In the meantime I would rather keep supporting the third party devs by purchasing from their direct store portals.
I have both 2020 and 2024 installed on my PC & after curiosity got the better of me over the Xmas break, I purchased and installed 2024 to see what it was like for myself and to compare it to 2020.
I’ve only dabbled in free flight mode for a few flights and to set up one of my flight controls as well as trying out VR.
As all my airport add ons, aircraft and everything else I’ve added to FS2020 that I’ve probably forgotten I’ve had, FS2020 is my go to sim absolutely no question, for me it just works and as I’ve just got into flying in VR I think it looks great.
2020 for me for a good while yet ![]()
