how to backup the whole game?
thanks
The best Iâve seen is making a backup of your onestore folder- located in official folder. On a reinstall you can drop it in and save the big download.
Hi,
I have rebuilt my OS drive but have FS2020 installed on a separate drive.
I have lost all the bits on drive C so do I need to do a full reinstall or do you have another idea as I have the onestore folder?
Help please
Cheers
David
I have a HDD in my computer and one of its uses is to take a system image of my OS/FS drive.
I always make sure I kick off a backup before a MSFS update.
You could save the image on a external hard drive.
The FS auto-installs everything automatically again, what was already bought from their shop at former installation as Payware.
All Freeware addons can be managed by very powerfull Freeware tool âMSFS - Addons Linkerâ
This tool can automatically reinstall every Freeware-Scenery or Aircraft, that was already installed before separately and then only be linked by on Click to the FS at the community-folder. You can also simply re-activate these links after a FS Re-Installation (âŠalso if you change the FS-Installation path and/or drive). Also possible at MSFS - Addons Linker is, to define various Groups of Freeware-Addons (e. g. Europe, USA, Japan etcâŠ), and then later install/link only one actualo needed of all these groups to the FS for much faster FS-Loadining time, if you often only want to perform regional oc continetal flights at one of these areas.
Always Happy Landings,

Hi David- You can start msfs downloading from the beginning and let it get a few percent in and then pause or stop it. Swap out the new onestore folder for your old one and save yourself the full download. Hope this helps.
Depends on who you bought it from.
If Steam, then you simply need to backup your Packages folder and your Roaming Profile in C:\Users\Your Windows Logon Name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator, and youâve basically taken most of the a) last known good core files for the Sim in Packages and b) your customizations in AppData.
Done.
For restore - keeping a copy of the Packages saves you a lot of data download for a reinstall. Simply move those files back into a target folder where you want to re-install the Sim. Start the download from Steam, and once Steam hands off to the MS Installer, point the installer to that directory. Itâll take a few moments, but MS will recognize - âHey those are valid filesâ and save you on having to redownload stuff. If an update has happened since you took that copy, it will simply perform a Differential Install and update only the files changed, not redownload the whole smash.
Thanks, I am starting to install and will see how it goes. I have everything I can possibly save.
Yes it works. Initial install from MS store. Then the in game install and stopped after a few minutes when the Onestore folder started populating. Copied over the backup and all worked.
Thanks for your help. So a backup really only needs the Onestore folder (113Gb) and the community folder.
Many thanks.
Iâm surprised you are asking about Backup for FS2020.
Iâm into Backup for the entire PC (which includes FS2020).
Through the years, I have used MS âWin 7â Backup and Restore"
which is still available under Win 10. It never failed.
But, I had a Disk Drive crash and lost the Backup.
Searching the Internet Reviews, I decided to try âACRONISâ
and chose it.
I like it. I store my backups on a external USB 1TB WD Hard Drive.
Acronis claims you can get to their backups even on a new
Disk or Motherboard.
I went to File Explorer and could see the Backup and its contents and could access them like a regular drive.
That is why I chose them.
II now have a Backup of my PC.
This includes all drives. (even FS2020)
This is more of a comment than a question. But why does Microsoft make it so hard to back up files we purchase. I was mistakenly told there would be no media for FS. TGhat we would have to download the files. It takes me forever to download, because off the â â â â â â internet service. Im so frustrated I went and bought a copy of X-Plane.
Good job Microsoft, again you go and make something so simple complicated.
Personally, I feel you should supply anyone who purchased the digital version copies of the media. But far be it for us to cut in on your profits.
Been using Acronis from the XP days and since then, itâs always been my goto SW.
Before finding Acronis⊠many an afternoon I remember I had to sit and install the OS from CD, a real pita.
ati best feature hands down is the F11 key, itâs top drawer.
Iâm about to refresh my OS, I was wondering about this. I donât want to download hundreds of gb data again. Is there any work around?
Guys, seems like a good place to renew the question âhow to backup whole simulatorâ âŠ
I have been using Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office for many years with other flight sims and, to be fair, itâs come to my rescue on a couple of occasions.
However, I have finally settled with the store version of MSFS and would like a full backup for peace of mind.
I have tried to create a ânew backupâ but a few minutes into the process, Acronis warns that files are encrypted and asks if I would like to proceed without encryption.
I terminated the process as I donât know if choosing to continue would produce a valid backup?
Guys any update about backup the training and bush progress? If you see my topic i just wrote i have lost all the progress.â â â â ! Logbook utuched by the way.
I dont like the way now that software companies now sell âsubscriptionsâ for their software. I prefered the way when u bought the software, you BOUGHT the software, not just a 365 day use of it
agree with copy and paste to back up. FS2020 steam fails every three months, so now trying this.
The support from microsoft is criminal - basically they have your money and dont care.
The only response I have so far is reinstall the OS and then download and reinstall FS2020.
That is so bad on so many levels and actually highlights how pathetic FS2020 aupport is.
Its not the OS, or graphics drivers as a reinstall of just FS2020 runs fine.
Its pathetic (unfit for purpose) support desk who are a waste of their wages.
Welcome to the real world. Subscription models that guarantee recurring revenue are becoming the norm. As long as the product sees continuous improvement I donât have a problem with it.
The problem comes when companies get lazy, and donât give us the improvements we continually pay for.
Did anyone succeed with a way to do store version? Ive tried copying the folders and doing a backup of the folders, but all report file path/extension too long. I tried a new OS on a different ssd and copying folders over, it seemed to do it over a few hours but then theres nothing in the folders on new drive after? I need to do a fresh install and to d/l 488gb @ 2MB/s would take me weeks! Frustrating
After watching this I found out what I was doing wrong, instead of copying the whole C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe folder just copy the Community and Official folders from C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages
So far no errors, user error on my part!
Will see if it works later when I reinstall my OS, and report back.
