Mine is underwater, so I can’t hear its screams. ![]()
That was a very interesting article.
Saccadic eye movements when viewing a digital display are definitely responsible for differences in the perception of flicker at different refresh rates.
I had a single-chip DLP projector for a while. I can self-induce rapid horizontal saccadic eye movements (fun during a DUI traffic stop!) Doing it while watching a movie on the projector created a veritable kaleidoscope of color flickering.
Totally aware of it, yes. I guess the 30 (or lets say 24) FPS myth has its funding in the fact that for decades, movies were recorded and played back at 24FPS only and because nobody complains about stuttering there, people started thinking that a human eye can anyway not perceive much more than 24-30 FPS. But people claiming this are totally not aware abouth the fact thtat a movie and a computer generated flow of pictures is something completely different and as such, FPS in movie or in a game can not be compared…
Some developers tried to claim that their game running at 30fps was more “cinematic”.
If “cinematic” is another word for “unoptimised”, then they accomplished their goals.
On the PC we have the luxury of making all sorts of tweaks, both software, and perhaps more importantly hardware to improve performance.
LOL
I bought a super cheap 42" LCD monitor for my bedroom a few years ago.
I think its dynamic range dips into negative numbers. I call it the ‘Vintage Soap Opera look.’
This is why I switched to Xbox series X. So I don’t have to do all this ■■■■■■■. It just works. 4k and smooth and I don’t care about fps.
Okay, back to your discussion. ![]()
Discussions about perceived framerates always seem to miss the point that movies and television are purely passive.
The difference between 30 and 60 fps in a game can be incredibly noticeable in terms of reaction to user input.
Where’s your sense of adventure? ![]()
Seriously, though, some people like plug-and-play, and some like to master the black art of optimizing their system.
As long as both types are happy, it’s a beautiful thing.
I have a gaming laptop too but you can only optimize a GTX1650 so much lol
Don’t I know it. The laptop I’m typing this on has a GTX 1060 (with MAX-Q!)
It was, shall we say, a challenge to run FS2020. It ran DCS pretty well, but I had to build a new PC for this sim. That or give up and buy an Xbox.
The latter option would have saved me a LOT of money… ![]()
I had thought about a PC upgrade but then thought my money would better be spent on an OLED 65in TV and an Xbox X. Sure there are add-ons I can’t use but I bought the PMDG on the marketplace vs. their store anticipating buying an Xbox. I don’t use many other add-ons as the default aircraft are fine by me. I have to say, 4k with HDR Dolby vision looks fricking awesome on an OLED. More than happy with my decision. But as you said, to each there own.
Also on my 4K 65" QLED.
So i did a DDU reinstall and installed the latest Nvidia driver…started the sim aaaand CTD (nvwgf2umx.dll) again (DX12)
Started again with TAA settings, changed to High settings. Selected DX12 and restarted sim…CTD with following error: MoAppCrash D3D12Core.dll
That’s an Nvidia driver component. Try resetting any custom settings, and if that doesn’t help try changing driver versions, either up or down initially to see if the fault is resolved.
Well, now i have removed the UserCFG.opt file, but still CTD on nvwgf2umx.dll. I will try to rollback Nvidia Drivers 2 steps.
Fek, rolled back to 546.17, same CTD.
Things i have done so far.
Rolled back 2 version of drivers.
DDU reinstall in safe mode
Checked XMP was enabled in BIOS
Deleted DX Cache
Deleted UserCFG.opt
Installed US/English language pack
Reinstalled Visual C++ Redistributable.
Atm im out of options.
Have you tried it with DX11 selected?
I had problems with DX12, I recall a CDT which I very rarely get plus against all expectations the visuals were actually worse.
Yes, it always starts in DX11 without a problem.
In which case I would forget DX12 for now. It IS a beta after all and obviously not fully ready although I know lots of folk run it very happily with no problems.
I know it’s supposed to run on a RTX4070 but it doesn’t on mine and frankly I prefer to fly rather than spend hours trouble-shooting.
