Haven’t checked this topic for a while since I didn’t have any problem anymore but as some of you mentioned, the WHITE DOT OF DEATH is back with SU12.
I did mention it when i’ve opened this topic but I’m on Xbox Series X so I have no idea how this works on PC (and if it’s something that can be fixed there or not).
The Toggle option doesn’t work anymore and It baffles me that Asobo never fixed that issue. I can’t enjoy the sim anymore so I’ll stay away from it and hope for a fix soon… But as we all know, it takes forever to get anything on Console.
If I find anything I’ll let everyone know, feel free to do the same if you find something.
Mind boggling that they removed any way to get rid of this white dot with SU12. Horrible game design in my opinion as there is already another cursor when using Xbox controller.
The community has been asking for removing this white dot for more than a year now and we are not only ignored but they made it impossible to remove now.
Quite a while back when the left stick on the controller always seemed to ‘accidentally’ bring up the toolbar menu and therfore lock me out of flying the aircraft, I decided that I must have a defective controller and rewrote the controls slightly to make the ‘X’ button toggle the toolbar and then you could press D-pad Left to get rid of the cursor.
This no longer works but now if you hold the Left Bumper, you can look around and the dot isnt there. I think the secret is rewriting the controls so that you can both look and fly in ‘Freelook mode’. I almost had this by changing the FreeLook Focus Mode from LeftBumper+X to LeftBumbper+RightBumper but then Left Stick also translated my cockpit position so I gave up for a bit.
It just takes rewriting the controls. Im sure its possible.
I had been holding off on the update due in part to this issue. I finally updated yesterday and spent a few minutes before work experimenting. I commented this in another thread, but I’ll say it again here for greater visibility because the white dot hasn’t changed for me on SU 12 on the Steam version with a third party Xbox style controller.
I first updated Windows as needed and Windows Defender to prevent the false positive bug, and emptied my community folder. When starting the sim, it didn’t detect the update and I could load in a flight. I restarted the sim and this time it prompted the update. After that finished, I tried another flight and the white dot only appeared during camera panning as before, disappearing after I stop. Clicking the left joystick and pressing the D-pad makes it disappear for good. I exited, put everything back in to the community folder and tried again with the same positive result.
I only had that few minutes to test it cold and dark and haven’t been back on it since. I also didn’t check the marketplace for any additional updates. I saw at least one post that prior WU’s had additional updates after SU12, and wonder if maybe it could be something like that messing it up.
I still agree the dot is annoying and needs to go, but I have somehow lucked out and spared so far from the new persistent dot.
OK, so you can definitely fly and look around without being bothered by the dot. You just have to rewrite some of the controls.
I have Left stick for Ailerons and Elevators.
left and Right Trigger for Rudder.
A and B for Throttle.
X toggles the toolbar.
D-pad up and down is flaps; left and right is elevator trim.
Pushing the right stick toggles FreeLook Focus Mode.
Left Bumper plus Right stick translates view forward, back, left and right and then Left Bumper plus either Right Bumper or Right Trigger raise or lower the view.
Its a work in progress but it definitely works.
Guys this isn’t simply a “mere annoyance”, as Asobo probably think. It’s actually LITERALLY HARMFUL for OLED displays.
Image retention due to the white dot is pretty much regular on Xbox Series X, using Dolby Vision, with a LG C1 77" television.
Like HDR, this mode is known to deliver the brightest image, using 100 both for OLED light and contrast settings. Then, it’s pretty much common to still see the small circle “ghost” in the center of the screen when exiting to the dashboard. Thankfully, it disappears after a while.
Please, notice, this atrocious dot isn’t “dimmed” like the HUD we see in most games (where, by the way, we can even configure visibility level or disable it). It’s totally “well-lit”! So, all those center pixels are CONSTANTLY using a white color.
The LG logo luminance adjustment can’t help to protect the display because the TV can’t even trigger it, since the dot isn’t constant and, also, it’s small. So it’s always displayed with full brightness.
With this in mind, I totally stopped playing. I don’t want to risk my OLED screen due to an insanely frustrating issue.
Even though image retention is temporary, the pixels wear will of course still happen as time goes by. That’s the hugest concern!
I’ve tried for an hour to get rid of this useless dot cursor on Xbox. No luck, couldn’t find a way to hide it. We are stuck with this thing at least till next Sim update, maybe forever.
Pressing the right stick will take you in and out of interaction mode with the dot but you can fly, look around, and move around - all without the dot.
X toggles toolbar.
This could be a workaround, but unfortunately I can only imagine that the camera itself would move when using the left stick trying to control the aircraft, right?
When in auto pilot I think people could use this, but it wouldn’t help at all when doing movements and trying to look around.
Thats why I changed the controls for moving about the cockpit. My first screenshot shows ‘Translate cockpit View’ and then also Increase or Decrease cockpit view height. All of those controls are available in both ‘Lockable’ as they are in default or as I have them, the ‘unlocked’ version. It does work. Clicking the right stick allows you to either use the white dot to interact or just fly and look around.
Note that I do all my flying from inside the cockpit and you will have to delete some conflicting controls but if you set things up like in my screenshots, it will work.
It’s been what two years now? Same with drone cam. We also need the white boxes on the MFD and PFD removed. It’s an absolute shame we need to run a custom.exe file to fix this.
I click the middle mouse button which i use for zoom,
The middle mouse button click give me freelook and present white dot which i have no quarel with
Because i can use it for reference when i fly without plane model.
Anyway when click a mouse button i go out of freelook and back to zoom function the white dot is gone and have my arrow back
Imo
Also this white dot can be used as reference of to hover over controle like heading bug or gns
And plus and minus these buttons when hold still with ir headtracking
