This is primarily my personal preference on the 787. It does feel to me that the 787 MSFS 2024 has taken a step back for no good reason.
In MSFS 2020, the team has made 787 very easy to play. You plan a flight on SimBrief and then get the flight plan, weight and balance, fully imported to the 787. This was a great user experience.
The MSFS 2024 787 is not at all easy. I have no idea why the team decided to remove features that was good for users. I do NOT buy the story on how they have no preference for tools. If so, enable SimBrief and other integration that people want instead of completely removing it!
Furthermore, it seems all the lights are working properly from MSFS 2020 787.
MSFS 2024 787 doesnāt appear to have much if any improvement. Instead, it feels like a step backward.
I did the same back in December or January. Admittedly, I havenāt flown either version since then - the crazy thrust reverser antigravity bug hadnāt yet been fixed. Heck I donāt know if itās actually fixed yet.
Anyway, supposedly thereās a 787 update making its way through the MSobo system now, per todayās Marketplace release notes. Hopefully that makes some further improvements.
Looks like the updated 787 package still doesnāt work correctly with the 787!!
The biggest issue is with the W&B. You are forced to mess with the new MSFS 2024 EFB on weight and balance. 99% of the time, the new EFB just errors out for no good reason!! It is simply annoying.
After checking out the 787 post Marketplace availability in MSFS 2024, I once again disabled MSFS 2024 787 and re-enabled MSFS 2020 787. I cannot stand the worse experience with MSFS 2024 with 787.
I think MSFS 2024 787 got neutered because they were trying to promote the faulty EFB. The Working Titlie team has purposedly made the experience flying 787 a lot worse! It is a real shame. I guess when your ego got the best of you, you do whatever to protect the bad software. The Working Title team used to be top notch, NOT ANYMORE!!
When I posted general displeasure about the feature regression in the ā24 787, one of the WT devs jumped in to defend/explain the rationale for removing direct Simbrief integration. The takeaway I got is that the decision was made to back away from directly using Simbrief and toward the establishment of a general interface API that can be leverage by any planning tool that uses it. Right now, it is possible to use the various Navigraph plugins for the ā24 EFB to import your flight plan, but not yet import winds or weight and balance info. At the time of the post, that capability had yet to be implemented but it was planned.
I encountered that bug in both the ā20 and ā24 versions when flown in FS2024. I was told by the same WT developer that this bug had been fixed, though I have not tested it. The bug actually occurs with thrust reverser deployment. Check this now-archived thread from the SU1 Beta for more about this bug:
Unfortunately, even WTās team implementation was horrible. They are forcing everyone to use their poorly built EFB and most of the time it doesnāt work correctly. Weird errors galore. Itās a dumb implementation and decision!!
Instead of making the 787 enjoyable, itās been frustrating.
Also, the WT team have not fixed the aircraft spinning violently on approach in SU1.
On the SimBrief integration, the default inibuild aircraft use it, the new A350 uses it, other 3rd parties continue to support it. The decision to remove it is once again STUPID!!
Will the problem with the front landing gear failing during landing be solved at all? Iām using beta 2, but thereās still no solution. And now it has become impossible to attach the gate to the aircraft, due to the fact that the communication window with the dispatcher does not scroll to the end and all ground commands such as boarding passengers, loading luggage, pushing onto the runway and requesting a flight plan are unavailable.
The new dreamiliner is unplayable. Eats up vram and gives me about 2-3 fps. Since it was installed Iām unable to enable the 2020 version. It is nowhere to be seen. Save the 2024 version for another beta because it is nowhere near ready. At least give us the option to reinstall the 2020 version.
Disable the 2024 Dreamliner and it might warn you that itās going to be replaced by the 2020 Dreamliner. Confirm and restart the sim. Thatās the only way I think it can happen.
Ah yes you are right. Thanks, whew. Not that itās that great of a plane but at least it performs well. The new one reminds of how bad the jetliners were at release. Needs optimization big time.
The way I did it for the SU2 beta and prior was to go to My Library, search for ā787ā, identify the 2020 version and enable it. Doing so warns you that it will disable the 2024 version.
However, after doing that, the (free) Horizon Sim mod will work in 2024 if youāre interested in giving it a try.
They changed about 15 things in SU2, none for the better. I am now getting porposing on approach in autoland and have had a couple out and out crashes⦠I have a Commercial Licenseā¦
Not sure what to say or do⦠the autopilot is the best of all the liners in the group⦠when it worksā¦
In the latest SU3 Beta version, one of the fixes is apparently for the issues with wingflex. Iāve been meaning to check that out, but Iām ābusyā testing the install feature (and a bug causing the front tires of airliners to go bust on taxi)
