I want my Sim back please!

I wouldn’t stress too much. We are already about half way through this xbox titles lifespan I think. Their numbers will start dropping off and microsobo will start feeling it in the back pocket.

The only ones left will be the remainder of the pc simmers who haven’t already given up on it.

Microsoft Flight Simulator has always been a game, I really don’t see why people are making a big fuss about “game” vs “simulator” because it can be both and it always has been. Making a simulator more accessible to all people and adding what some people would deem fun features is not degrading the simulator. The whole elitism about “It has to be only for me me me! I don’t like features not catered to my demands” isn’t fair. It’s saying that other people does not deserve to enjoy it unless they enjoy it specifically the way you do.

This product isn’t designed only for one group of people but has taken up the challenge of making a flight simulator for everyone. This isn’t something that should be frowned upon, it should be welcomed. We do want to share this wonderful hobby with more people right? Microsoft Flight Simulator is the best opportunity for that.

SU5 wasn’t an overall great success especially for PC users and perhaps especially for PC users that have powerful hardware capable of already running the simulator with good performance before SU5. Me personally have had far more issues like CTDs after SU5 and I’m not overall happy with the stuttering using TrackIR nor the amount of pop in when looking around.
That being said, Asobo is working on these issues and there will be updates coming, they don’t want these issues any more than we do.

This game still has some way to go to be a fantastic flight simulator, but it does already do some amazing things and I wouldn’t want to be without it. Let’s not waste a ton of energy on being overly negative about every single thing that happens.

A familiar word in PC vs console threads.

Deus Ex was one of the best games ever made, and was PC only. Deus Ex: Invisible War was multi-platform, and was made “more accessible” through many means e.g. ”unified ammo”, and consequently was not one of the best games ever made.

Accessibility often means reducing the complexity of gameplay to reach as wide an audience as possible, and in the case of sequels this usually ends up destroying the franchise in the quest for said audience.

Another example is Archimedean Dynasty. A brilliant underwater sim, with great depth of gameplay, and PC only. It spawned two sequels, Aquanox 1/2, both multi-platform, and it was dumbed down into a shooter. A lacklustre Kickstarter reboot followed many years later, you guessed it, also multi-platform.

History is littered with these examples, and I struggle to think of a single title that actually improved by going multi-platform.

The issue here is that people typically cry about a lack of freedom of speech as they believe it means freedom from objection.

Gross ,sweeping generalisations made about a (large) group of people, simply because they use a different gaming platform should and will be challenged.

The xbox user, whoever he may be, has absolutely zero accountability to how your virtual airplanes are behaving - as much as you are ‘free’ to suggest it, it should be challenged as it is ridiculous.

Hopefully the upcoming updates will provide people with high end PCs a way to get back what they had last August. Since the only way to get the point through that you are unhappy with the “downgrades” is forums like this it should be expected. Asobo had to have known they were opening a can of worms so IMO they are half to blame for this especially when they call downgrades “optimization”.

But that’s just me I could be wrong

I would like to say here again that it is not about turning off the XBoxlers! That the sim, the game or whatever you like to call it can or should be made accessible to many people is also ok. What bothers me is how many others were already there in the first tests as alpha tester and were able to know and follow the development of FS 2020 very well. In the course of the last 2 years, the testers in the test phase and also after the PC release reported countless errors and some of them were fixed by capable people here in the forum using specially created fixes. Then members come who have not even come close to witnessing all these times and have been here for a short time and spread their hateful comments without any background knowledge. If you look at the development it is just the case that here with the SU5 years of hard and time-consuming work on the part of all PC Simmers and Asobo were destroyed with an update and we PC people are almost where we were as alpha testers. That is what I try to say with this threat, and it was not my aim to attack any XBoxler. I just think the approach is stupid to break a developing game / Simm which as a PC variant had already reached a high level with which many could identify, so that it can be used across platforms. If the haters who are only here for a short time and did not know the background of the Sim had also witnessed all of this, they might think differently!

Me too, i stopped to fly since SU5 hf1 & hf2.

The argument was never about the people, but the platform. More properly, it’s how the game developers design games on console based on their perceptions of the console audience, shaped, and moulded by the console owners i.e. MS, Sony etc.

If a game is considered shallow, lacking nuanced gameplay, “accessible”, that is not the fault of the gamer. The game was written that way because the developers believe it caters to their target audience, hoping that it will sell more because of these “imperfections”.

No.

MSFS was in development for Xbox from the start.

July 2020:

“Microsoft and Asobo spoke about this, explaining that the game is currently in development for Xbox One as well, and that it will not be a problem to adapt it to the lower hardware capabilities: indeed, the optimizations that will be put in place for this console will help the title to form even better on the most powerful hardware, since the code will generally be even more efficient.”

There are truths that several posters need to grasp, although it is clear that some have been struggling.

MSFS is not a sim for PC only - it was designed from the start to come to consoles (which are ‘walled garden’ PCs) once the power of the Series X/S was ready for it. This is not only a level of accessibility MSFS was designed for, it is the best way to proceed both commercially and for the flying community as a whole.

MSFS is also a sim designed to accommodate all sorts of flyer’s styles. I’ve read a good deal of nonsense written about ‘Xbox casuals’. Not only is ‘casual play’ perfectly fine and supported by the sim with multiple ‘assists’, there are plenty of people on PC who enjoy the sim ‘casually’ as well as many on Xbox who take the sim more seriously, using the assists and training that the sim offers to increase the realism of their flying over time.

Now we’ve cleared that up, many of the ill-conceived posts in this thread stem from the error in the OP’s post.

“I want my Sim back”

The OP is entitled to have a Sim that works, so bug fixing and broken features since SU5 should absolutely be remedied and development further.

But to castigate the expansion to Xbox players and the extension of activities and modes for everyone to enjoy is mis-targeted, they are part of the core development of the sim. If that’s problematic for anyone, well, the Sim wasn’t ‘theirs’ to start with.

Sorry, but yes.

I wasn’t referring to MSFS in particular, but the argument in general.

Everything I wrote can be found out there, you just need to look.

Again, you are wrong in this assumption, it was never about the players, but the platform. Look at my post again.

This is why I believe they should have just waited and released on both platforms at the same time. What they did though is release a sim a year ago that was visually a break through for flight sims knowing full well they would have to dumb it down (for lack of a better word) and cause a bunch of hard feelings. Doesn’t make good business sense to me.

Ah I see. My points were about MSFS particularly and the topic raised by the OP.

I was bring up a more generalised point of view, on this topic. The perception is often twisted to try to make it about gamer vs gamer, and it was never that. It really should be gamer+gamer vs developer, or rather their focus groups, and how they see the users of each platform.

The issues on PC absolutely need to be addressed. I can’t think of any reason why the Sim coming to Xbox should necessitate PC simmers having a ‘downgraded’ experience, that needs to be resolved urgently.

Funded no doubt by the commercial good sense of extending the sim to Xbox with it’s huge audience.

My hopefully unfounded fear is that the higher ups at MS have decided that the visual quality has to be the same on both platforms in order to make it pointless to spend more money on a high end PC when you can get the same results with an Xbox purchase. After all they are trying to sell the console also. I guess we will find out in with the upcoming updates

I can understand the fear, but that seems a little too ‘conspiracy theory’ to be the case. Surely… :relieved:

Does that include starting another heated debate and dividing the community, whilst putting down Xbox users?

I think it’s in everyone’s best interest if these sort of posts, weren’t posted at all. There’s constructive feedback, which is completely acceptable and appropriate for the development of the MSFS. However, this was a rant post, and the OP himself admitted to it being a rant (before editing it out). And rants do no good to anyone.

In fact, that is exactly what happened with “Watch_Dogs”.

This is not the first time someone’s tell us that Ubisoft’s proposed masterpiece didn’t come out as such due to console limitations. Back in 2014, some info leaked out suggesting that “amazing E3 2012 graphics of Watch Dogs” were deliberately turned off on PC to make the game look better on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

https://wccftech.com/e3-2012-graphics-watch-dogs-deliberately-turned-off-pc-next-gen/

If you compare what happened back then, with what is happening now, and resorting to editing text files in an attempt to restore LOD levels to what they once were, there are striking similarities.

The answer is more nuanced than these articles imply. The game needed to launch in a viable state across all platforms which the consoles (and lower spec PCs) couldn’t handle. The original trailer wrote cheques the actual game couldn’t cash.

A high-end PC can always reproduce a higher-fidelity experience. Most purchasers don’t have one of those, so the point is moot.

But maybe we’re drifting off-topic…

Well as a long time Art Bell fan I spent many a nights listening to his guest put forth there conspiracy theories. Did you know we never really landed on the moon and then proceeded to fake it a dozen more times

At any rate I hope your right SJ and Art Bell RIP
