Impossible to control hovering in training

Has anyone experience weird behaviors of the Cabri when doing the Hovering training?
As soon as the instructor stops controlling the stick to let me counter the lateral effect, the helicopter go nuts… Like doing violent swings, speeding up laterally or rocketing to the skies. All of this without touching the collective.

Not sure this is expected, and looking at the forum it seems not to have been reported. So am I missing something on the bindings, or a assistance parameter I should test in the config? If not ==> bug report

Thanks!

to answer your question yes, I changed flight model and had to adjust all my flight sensitivies in controller hardware by alot to get it right. also how do I make a seperate topic? im new and I am struggling with freelance company missions not appearing.

Yes, but I’m using a HOTAS One and I suspect nothing is setup right as a default.

I think you need to earn some “hearts” to get the rights to create a new profile

So I reviewed the key bindings and played a bit with sensitivity, even loaded the default profile for my flight stick. Nothing changed and the helicopter started to behave erratically when hovering as soon as the instructor gives me back the stick control - i did not have that with rudder controls for ex., when applying counter force it was perfectly manageable.

I also tried from free flight and with different helicopters but no, still behaving erratically in hover mode. Strangely when started at a higher level (so no hovering) it is perfectly flyable.

I’m perplex with my issue, reading several good feedack on the forums on the helicopter flight model :frowning:

This was the lowest point of my helicopter training (1 min).
I swear I’m not this bad, the sim was behaving unhelpfully…

I don’t remember, I’ll check tomorrow and open the bug report. I experience the exact same crazy stuff as @SofaJockey posted above

Glad it wasn’t just me, it did calm down later and I completed the training and the certification.

I created the bug report here. Please comment and vote so it gets prioritized!

Thanks

You need to work a lot with the collective. The flight model has very strong impact of fresh air when you move in hover, so the moment you start moving out of balance gently reduce collective, then add some as you slow down.

I understand but I’m not sure this is the case here. tried to lower the collective but the helicopter was still getting uncontrollable (and even going up in the air) as soon as the cyclic assistance was off.

Do you think the behaviour in the video above could be avoided with more inputs on the collective?

thanks

It took me about a weekend to get helicopters a little under control. They require non stop collective and cyclic changes.

In case it’s a flight model bug one thing you can try is from the main menu go to settings, set flight model to classic, start a free flight in a heli, take off, go back to main menu and switch flight model back to modern.

Oh, and make sure sim rate is normal in case you changed it before (start the timer on tablet and check it doesn’t count faster than it should).

I know this, sometimes it feels like the devil (:imp:) jumped into the cockpit and takes over controls. Not only in helicopters…

I have experienced the out of control spin. The problem was that the game had change controller profile to Xbox controller not my flight stick. It happens every time I fly I new aircraft. It also happens in career mode when I get a new certification even if it is the same aircraft.

Regarding hovering it suppose to be extremely hard without assistance. I can hover all the helis for how long as I like without assistance. But I have flown them over 300 hours in 2020 and 2024.

I remember in the beginning it was extremely difficult. I hover a couple of minutes everytime before I start my flight just to practice.

Now in 2024 when I unlocked cargo hook endorsement I had to try many times to pass it and the first mission. I refuse to do it from the outside because it ruins the experience for me.

I use the vertical reference window to the right of the pilots seat as you should when sling loading.
It’s so extremely difficult that I turned all assist on just to barely pass the first mission.
I think the goal is that it should be as hard as in real life with assist off.
I hope one day I learn to do it but now it is to hard for me😄

I did try the shift legacy / modern flight model, but no luck :frowning:

Helicopter are not easy, but seeing this level of uncontrollability is really unexpected (watch the video above until the end, i have the exact same thing happening to me, and that feels crazy if this behaviour is realistic…)

Anyway as @Olle2011T suggested I’ll keep the cyclic assistance on to remove that frustration, hoping for the bug to be reproduced…

Is that video with or without assist on? If that is without assist and your are new it is absolutely realistic. If you are on Xbox with Xbox controller it is almost impossible. That’s why assist option exists
I remember flying just like that on Xbox in the beginning.

I am without assists.
I still have my doubts that helicopters can swing in such way, especially when applying gentle inputs. But I don’t have any experience, so I only remain with my doubts.
