More than three years ago, I released the freeware Flying the Hump scenery:
Flying the Hump - Scenery Enhancements for MSFS | Flightsim.to
It was working great in MSFS 2020 until… after the SU16… it wasn’t. The new aerials aligned with MSFS 2024 just did not fit the layout of the airfields and for me pretty much ruined the experience.
To be honest, since the scenery includes 58 airfields, I never considered fixing the scenery, let alone bringing it to MSFS 2024. Unfortunately the backwards compatibility did not materialise well for this addon in MSFS 2024 and, besides the aerials, there was a number of additional issues that would have to be addressed.
That was until I learnt about @LagaffeVFR5476 working on the DC-4 ![]()
Because after flying the Hump in a C-47 and a C-46, who would not like to fly the Hump in a properly done DC-4?

So… being very much aware from my previous FSX/P3D/MSFS scenery projects that any such project usually takes at least 2x or 3x more time than initially foreseen, I bit the bullet, accepted the challenge…

…and started to work on a MSFS 2024 version of the Flying the Hump scenery.
These are some of the issues than need to be fixed and updated in MSFS 2024 SDK:
Align airfields to the new aerials
Yunnan-Yi in MSFS 2020
Yunnan-Yi in MSFS 2024
Grass growing through solid surfaces
Vegetation (less sensible to exclusion)
Conflicting autogen structures
MSFS 2024 LOD logic (some objects disappear entirely when still very close to them)
…and the list goes on.
This 2024 update will take some time (again - 58 airfields, library of objects, navaids…) and I plan to release it on fs.to whenever a set of airfields along a certain route will be ready. For the moment, I am working on the sixth airfield:
Please do not expect the final result to be top-notch quality, this is still a (fairly large-extent) freeware project
This really will be just bringing the ol’ good Flying the Hump to MSFS 2024 with some improvements here and there.
Hopefully, you will like the result. This is Shingbwiyang with brand new water masks (entirely missing in MSFS 2024):
Why not update it also for MSFS 2020 when I am at it?
I am aware that many people still stick to MSFS 2020. However, I will be working only on MSFS 2024 update since I personally fly this version almost exclusively and I frankly believe that this sim is the only way forward. No MSFS 2020 fixes, sorry.
At some point, I will probably try to load the MSFS 2024 xml project files to MSFS 2020 editor and check whether and how they work. I do not expect much, though, as MSFS 2024 uses different structure as well as new properties.
If you are interested how the work continues, stay tuned!
