As you mention your planning around availiable aircraft, now that AH have their Lancaster bomber in sim, how about the Avro factory site at Chadderton?
Now that’s a site I had not thought about yet (we have shortlist of predictable Bomber Command bases) and also suggests Eastleigh to tie in with the Spitfire prototype. (I might need to stop giving things away…)
Thanks for the answer.
Orbx will be perfect as a store which have a good installer, and which allow to use an addon manager.
I love it. You guys are becoming my favorite developers for doing the research and making spectacular vintage and historical details. It stretches beyond mere entertainment and becomes a interesting mix of history and personal passion that is sorely missed in today’s world where absolute slop gets pushed to the front and all this great content will largely be unnoticed. But I notice it and treasure it because it’s all about things that are easily forgotten but deserve to be saved.
@Sal1800 Thanks so much, we really appreciate that.
As a historian and archaeologist, rather than a technologist, I am really excited by the sim’s potential to bring the past to life in a way that other technologies cannot do.
So it is really exciting that you and others also appreciate what we are trying to do.
I am excited to announce that we will now be working with Kenley Revival, the conservation group dedicated to the preservation of RAF Kenley.
Kenley Revival is volunteer led and has enormous knowledge and expertise around the history, interpretation and preservation of the airfield.
They have offered to share that knowledge with us, as well as their extensive, unpublished, archive to ensure that RAF Kenley 1940 is as accurate as possible.
This is the start of a longer term partnership which will allow us to develop further editions of Kenley focused on different points in its history.
For all of us at Time Machine Designs and Boomsatsuma it also represents a significant step forward in our ambition to bring you the best historical scenery for MSFS.
You might be pleased to know that this morning we were investigating RAF vehicle registrations for all of the vehicles and the positon of the David Brown logo for the tractor!
This is fun because as FS2024 has gotten capable enough for everyday use, I’ve been repurposing FS2020 as my sim for the Redwing 1935 and other retro 1920’s-through-1940’s scenery and aircraft.
So this will make a fine addition there!
Ha, excellent. I do love this type of research.
I noticed this from one of the dig post ex reports, if you haven’t recreated it then I’m afraid I can’t consider this project a faithful reproduction.
‘…including broken pottery with NAAFI insignia.’
Edit. Just a after posting this I noticed you mentioned Kenley Revival, i did wonder if you were in touch with them. I really like the collaborative approach you take, I would have loved to have had you come in to speak to my students.
I hadn’t seen that one but I am sure we can source some NAAFi cup images to work from.
And the link with the team at Kenley Revival is already paying dividends, even if it means retiring our K2 ambulance for now and repainting it for use on an airfield from later in the war.
And I am sorry we missed the chance to speaker to your students, our forays I to work with schools so suggest that history + MSFS cna be a very effective combination.
Unfortunately, the university I taught at closed its archaeology department and we were all made redundant in 2021.
I primarily taught archaeology, in one of my modules I had a session on aerial archaeology, with students scouring Google Earth for cropmarks and earthworks. But I also taught some heritage modules and the approach you have taken, utilising a computer ‘game’ and informed by current research, to instil interest in the past is quite effective.
Anyway, looking forward to seeing the final results of this project and the other historic airfields you decide on.
Following the summer break the Kenley team are back on it…
A selection of work in progress images for you (and yes the sewer pipe anti aircraft post was really a thing…)
Kenley’s Officer’s Mess
A light anti aircraft post (repurposing a sewer pipe)
Belfast Hangar with Watch Office
Special one for me, live between here and Biggin Hill. Used to go gliding with Air Cadets at Kenley and learned a little about its history. Your work’s looking amazing I love the details in each individual object.
I hope we can do it justice for you. Biggin is on the roadmap too if Kenley is a success.
New week, new vehicles…
An Albion three point refueller to hook up to our static Hurricanes and Spitfires.
Will it be ready for the BoB anniversary?
Well, that is our target release date but it will be tight.
Fingers crossed for you and the team but of course dont rush the job.
Il keep an eye on the Discord for any details on Marketplace testing.
