Insert MSFS game disc

This helped me too…Thank you!

Hi, I have solved the “insert disk issue” (for now) in my PC. I write my experience in case this can be of help for somebody:

During the last 2-3 weeks I’ve been experiencing intermittent problems that caused the game to get stuck in the loading process (e.g. Data sync issue). I solved it logging out and then logging in from MS store and Xbox app + PC restart.

Since yesterday, I could not play because the game asked for a disk in the loading process. After checking MS Store, I realized I was not logged in, so after logging in I have restarted MSFS2020 and it works fine.

It seems that there are problems with Xbox app and MS Store that cause these intermittent problems and I am sure it will fail again at some point in the following days until it is completely fixed.

I’m happy for you that you where able to get things moving again. I have quit using MSFS2020 I completely lost the joy of it.
I never understood why MS has made it so darn complicated, Xbox app + MSstore App instability after updates.
If MS solve these problems and get MSFS more stable I may try to use it but for the time being I have found my path in Xplane12.
yours, Frans

Yes, the problem keeps coming back over and over again. Not difficult to do the steps needed, but it really kills the enjoyment (or some of it at least). You never know what you end up doing when you fire up the sim. Simply annoying!

I’m getting this in the XBOX app:

Then, I saw a web page popping up, prompting me to login into my Microsoft account. And all of a sudden, it works again. So, check the XBOX app, see if you are logged in, make sure you see hidden panes of a web browser prompting you to login.

Hi, right now I solved this very, very annoying issue; I just simply exit and re-entered from-in my Microsoft account. All worked fine - at least for me, of course -.

Fulvio

This is a known issue, some troubleshooting have been put together here:

About the “insert disc” issue, in my case it has been solved simply logging out and logging in my Microsoft Store account.

TOP!!! It works
Thanks

After latest w11 update (31/5/24) and MSFS update I am unable to start simulator - request for game disk. Tried all recommodations - nothing works…

Had the same problem recently. What solved it, was deinstalling and reinstalling the game and the Digital License which is hard to find via the XBox App. At my first try the game was reinstalled but not the digital license. This process does not require to download everything again - the Community and Official folders were not removed. Just the base game files. Also my settings were restored.

This whole system is a big mess.

I have to do this everyday for the last week.
I don’t see where is the problem in microsoft’s side but it’s a bit annoying.

I found a solution: In your Windows Store settings you find an option calles sth like “Offline Permissions”. After activating my game started without this error

I followed the article’s instruction/checklist, but still no change. MSFS still asking for a disk… Any other suggestions?

Hi @OldArmy1997,
Can you open the Windows Store, click on the Library icon, then click on Get Updates, and update any apps that have an update available, particularly any Xbox ones, such as Xbox Identity Provider, Xbox Gaming Services, etc.

I noticed that there was an Update to the Xbox Identity Provider yesterday afternoon on my PC. Not sure if this will help get you back on-line, but it is quick to do & cannot hurt to try.

Even today when starting MSFS I had the fateful “Insert disk…” message. Yesterday there was the Xbox Identity Provider update (vers. 12.113.31003.0).

I solved the problem by starting the XBox app (vers. 2406.1001.14.0) where it was highlighted that I was no longer logged in … then I logged in again and restarted MSFS without problems.

Try a VPN. Sorry if anyone has already suggested. Weirdly, MSFS cuts off the Wi-Fi once it starts causing this issue.

Boy this issue is tiresome. Microsoft, can you please sort this issue permanently already.

Getting this error message every now and then when you already started lots of other things around MSFS only to have to quit everything and restart your PC gets old very fast…

I’m afraid they won’t address this issue because otherwise it would have been solved months ago. Had the same yesterday and all my settings were back to default. The 6th time this year, the 4th time in 2 months…

Last week the only way to solve it for me was using a VPN with an endpoint in UK. My network entry is in Austria. For me it seems more like a Microsoft/XBox problem than one that Asobo could solve. When “insert game disc shows up” also i.e. “Microsoft Solitaire Collection” can’t login.
