Is RTX 4090 The Real Deal?

wish they would list the CPU used on the chart. If they’re testing with a 5800X3D, people with lesser CPU’s will likely not see that boost.

This ^^

This is such a load of BS hype. I get largely the same fps as that with a 2080ti in 4K. After SU10 in DX11 I’m getting between 30-60 (capped).

This game is CPU limited and until that changes chucking a tonne of graphical processing power at it won’t change that.

A 3090ti will be more than enough for FS for a long time to come. What we should be talking about are the next gen of CPU’s…that’s where it’s at as far as this title is concerned. The best bit for us, the players, is that a new CPU will be cheaper than a new GPU. The inevitable price of the 40 series cards cannot be justified IMHO.

The way DLSS 3 works is that tthe new frame doesn’t need the any extra Oomph from the CPU as this new frame is done totally on the GPU. That is why peeps who are CPU bound will get a boost. But wait for the proper dlss3 vids over the next couple of days to see it better explained. There is a section in the Digital Foundary vid that gives a bit of insight (from about 18 mins)

The above test is done using the i9-12900k. The 2x fps on 4K Ultra seems consistent.

Iran, sadly you have to be a native though. Going rate is around $4-5k so you could get two 4090’s and have some change left over for a new PSU.

Nice to see these results, would be a good uplift over the 3090 but I’m sticking to my plan of waiting to see what AMD are offering this year.

that was without DLSS 3, since DLSS 3 is not out yet for MSFS.

Ah I misunderstood. Thought you were saying CPU would still be a bottleneck in dlss3

Anyone know anywhere to pre-order in Europe?

Some benchmarks like this are still general to me.

Still need to know native performance with Render Scaling, TLOD and LOD, how many add-ons in Community Folder, AI Traffic (airplanes, ships, vehicles…) are on active or not, flying with 3rd airplanes at payware airports…

Without these “real-world” stuffs in MSFS, benchmarks dont mean that we will get like that.

Yes! Cant wait to get one. And thanks to everyone who dont vie with me :+1:.

It really depends on your settings and the scenario.

Right now my 3080 Ti has a VR frame time of 15-30ms depending on DLSS settings, while the frame time on my 5800X3D is around 9ms. My CPU FPS cap is around 60fps, but in VR my GPU limit is around 30-40.

So an 80% improvement in GPU performance would be big for me in VR, but if I was running in flat screen 4k, it would not.

I wouldn’t count on 80%, good if it will be 50%, unless you think about DLSS, but then - read here: Motion Reprojection explained

We have to keep in mind that MS/Asobo HAS to Keep the MSFS2020 system able to run on THIER Minimum specs as they published:
Can you imagine running on a GTX 770 ?

Minimum Specs:

  • CPU: Intel Core i5-4460 or AMD Ryzen 3 1200 or better
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit
  • VIDEO CARD: Radeon RX 570 or GeForce GTX 770 or better
  • PIXEL SHADER: 5.0
  • VERTEX SHADER: 5.0
  • FREE DISK SPACE: 150 GB
  • DEDICATED VIDEO RAM: 2048 MB

Currently with SU10 and the latest Nvidia Driver I’m bouncing between MainThread and GPU bound. I’m assuming significant GPU performance will simply put me back to MainThread limited with MSFS.

12700k, 3080ti, 96GB DDR4, 2.0 GB NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD.

ray charles to the facts…it will 100% be an improvement for the sim…

The 8k results are exactly what I wanted to see because that’s 4/3 of the pixels a triple 4K display setup will need to push. Thanks for the link!!!

today i installed my new cpu.
I found my Deal

near 90fps on 3440×1440 with the new Flight Traffic on Ultra.
thats enought for 2 years

Sorry folks but IMO its just not worth the masses of money spent ..
(AND YES THIS JUST MY OPINION)
I am a developer and run MSFS with all sliders up in ULTRA in 4k at 3840x2160 Resolution in WINDOWED MODE (Because I also run 3DStudio and Photoshop as well as Messenger and Office All at the same time .. I do not allow Nvidia to “optimise” The Sim, As already stated I just turn everything on to ULTRA ..
I am Very happy with the 50 - 60 FPS I achieve from my 3060 so why would I even consider spending over 1600 dollars , Euro, Pounds.. whatever it is to squeeze a few more frames I wont even notice ?? DONT Look at the FPS Rate on the screen LOL Just fly .. if its clean, smooth and stutter free then save your money for more beer and drugs (and add ons) LOL

I have a 3090/12900 and already struggling at major hubs with AI addons and with heavy cloud coverage. A 4090 makes sense in that regard.
