Is the Default Asobo 787/747 good?

I recently tested out the 787, and noticed, that it has some cool mcdu features. But I wanted to ask if there is like a mod for the planes, cause they have many inop buttons.

they are not perfect but not terrible like old fsx default planes. they got some avionic updates and they are ok for casual simmers. not study level though

Besides the missing TOD pause, which is almost a must for those long haulers they are good.

I have great fun flying the 747, everything works fine, ILS, vnav&lnav

Mod wise, for the 747 you got cockpit texture mod, that’s good.

os the fs.to or the payware better?

the stock 747 had its avionics upgraded a few months back
that made it a semi-study level model
i say its pretty good

both the 747 and the 787 got a massive improvement with AAU2 a couple of months ago, and are both pretty good now.

If you’re looking at any mod/variant for the 787; they all use the stock sim 787 systems. They mostly shorten the plane a bit, so systems wise, they’ll be the same.

What’s a TOD Pause?

(I hate acronyms for this reason)

Top Of Descent

Counterpoint: I’ve flown numerous long-hauls in the stock 787, the 787 with the -8 and -9 mods from Kuro, HorizonSim and Bravo Aerospace. I’ve also flown the PMDG 777 and 737 on medium/long hauls ranging from 6 - 12 hours. I never use Pause at TOD for any any of those flights, even in the PMDG aircraft which explicitly support that functionality. As a result, the lack of such functionality in the Asobo stock and modded aircraft doesn’t bother me whatsoever.

With the long hauls it’s sometimes difficult for me as a beginner to calculate my TOD, this is the Top Of Decent, I need to be available at this point to start my decent, avoiding to overfly my approach airport.

Most addons airplanes, think of the PMDG and salty mod have this.

P.S.
If you like more clarification it’s al described in the first 15 seconds of this video I made.

Just to clarify - after the updates from WorkingTitle over the last couple years, the 787 and 747 both calculate TOD just fine as part of their VNAV functions.

I understand this is do able for more experienced guys but for me it’s 2 reasons I need this.

SC (step climb) is new for me and I don’t know how this interferes with ETA

My working hours are sometimes uncertain, this makes me miss my Tod point.

Extra, indeed the TOD in the updated 747 works perfectly!

They are both much better since the AAU2 update as stated.

For the 787 I fly the 787-9 mod from Horizon as that is what my VA fly’s in real life and the mod is quite good.

Also some nice texture mods out there.

Horizon is also in the works of a 747 freighter mod and I’ll fly that when that becomes available.

If you prefer a 787-8 Kuro makes a mod for that.

I wasn’t questioning the requirement for it, I just didn’t know what it was…

For the sake of clarity, in modern Boeing nomenclature, the variants are -8, -9 and -10. So the Kuro mod is for the -8, the HorizonSim mod is the -9, and the base Asobo/WT version in the Premium Deluxe package is the -10.

I think both the Asobo 747/787 are “very good” at this stage, and an excellent stepping-stone to say the PMDGs or other study-ish-level planes.

What would you say is better. The HS sim 787 texture pack or the payware one?

What is pause at TOD? Like it pauses the game mid flight?

Yes. Folks who like to fly all their long-hauls in real-time (not time-compressed) sometimes like to use Pause at TOD functionality to pause their flights until they can get back to their PC’s, then unpause and fly the descent, approach and landing.

In my opinion both them (787/747) are reasonable especially when they got working title avionics updates. It is not as complex as other payware airplane addons but still good enough for you to complete flight from A to B. You can potentially use it on online ATC networks such as Vatsim. As I understand Horizon Sim 787-9 mod is bit more immersive which is available for free (Can be downloaded from flightsim.to) but if you own deluxe/premium deluxe version of the sim then you already have 747/787 installed, Give it a go and see if you like it.
