Lack of Communication from Microsoft and Asobo

Even if it does need the Marketplace, it could mean specific data, which it can use without needing the Marketplace visible. It is more like SmotheryVase665 said and maybe a update to the core files.

Slightly off topic but mentioned - do we know when the next Dev Stream is in March?

March 14th.

So…we’ve torpedoed your install and…bye for now!

Love it. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Five years on and still the most basic communication is dreadful, why is this? Serious question.

For some reason, they seem to feel the need to use ā€œmarketing languageā€ for everything. Rather infuriating when all we want is straight, truthful information on what the heck is going on…

Maybe the reason is… They don’t even know what’s going on. Which is an option, but a troubling one it is.

In this particular case even if they don’t know what the specific problem was they could have pulled the update as soon as it was confirmed to be causing harm to minimise the people effected.

Basically, if they were super open and honest with the community all the time —and given how much people are constantly (and understandably) asking for updates— they’d end up sharing a lot of internal stuff. That would set expectations and make it seem like certain things are coming by certain dates, even if they’re not 100% sure they can deliver.

And then, the moment something doesn’t go as planned —which probably happens a lot— they’d be dealing with a huge wave of backlash every time.

They just don’t want to take that kind of risk. Simple as that.
Call it damage control.

If you actually manage people’s expectation properly you don’t need damage control.

That means telling the truth up-front and being open and honest when things go wrong.

Yes but if you do that, marketing would likely not be able to generate nearly as much hype with promises and thus not generate as much sales day one. Sales are far more important than people’s expectations.

From a business standpoint, I agree, but from a moral/ethical standpoint, I rather strongly disagree. It seems to me that, in a morally and ethically ideal world, businesses would do what they could to hype up their products, but also put out as much raw information as possible about those products’ state of readiness for production, so as not to mislead their (potential) customers into buying a product that’s not up to snuff.

…Then again, why am I talking about morals and ethics when, for almost all large businesses nowadays, quick money is demonstrably the only priority?

Precisely… :smiling_face_with_tear:
That’s sadly why I didn’t even consider ethics or morality for even a split second in my previous answer. They’ve been proven irrelevant 99% of the time as they don’t stand a chance against short term profits…

Communication is very poor in the beta section, the one area it’s needed most, this needs improvement.

Hopefully tonight we will get an update on what’s happening with SU2. Whether they will be releasing it in its current state, which I hope they don’t, or whether we can expect more beta updates. They seem to have gone very quiet this last week about what’s happening. It feels like we are all being left in the dark, and then get very vague detail in the weekly development update.

Keep the ball rolling…
SU2 must be released…

Unfortunately, improvements in communication with the community will never reach ā€œbetaā€.. it would be much better, getting in touch, keep customers honestly informed makes ā€˜things’ so much better

I must admit I’m starting to find this weird also…
Good old days from the launch of 2020 with a lot of communication and projects seems very far now.
Where’s Asobo ? Where’s all the communication from Microsoft about the future of the sim ?
Looks like in 2008 when they closed Aces studio without a word for the fsx community…
