Layout.json Generator that can handle Path names > 250 Character

Is there a MSFS Layout Generator that is drag-n-drop that can handle file paths greater than 250 characters.

Setting Windows to handle >250 character (Registry mod) does not help an application that is compiled for 32 bit, with a file handling library that can only handle up to 250 characters.

Trying to avoid the complication of making Links, each time I want to generate a layout for layout.json file in both Community (and Official)

Move the addon folder to your desktop, then run the json generator. The pathways listed in the file always start at SimObjects, so everything before that is irrelevant.

It’s not Community I want to update the layout.json in – Its Official, after fixing the many stupid mistakes in the Asobo files, that gives all those errors in the Dev Console, that it is clear now, Asobo will never fix.

Do they HAVE to be fixed – maybe not
Should they be fixed – YES – 4000+ errors is an embarrassment !!

Hello, i ran into the same issue a few weeks ago and, the source code being available on github, i made a little change for my personal use that should fix the issue. I don’t think i can share the file publicly (not sure what the rules are with available source code modifications because the base code is 99.9999% not mine and all the credits has to go the original author) but if you want to test i can send you a link to my modified file (it’s obviously an EXE though, not sure if you you would trust that)

No matter, you can still drag the folder to the desktop, update the json, then put it back.

NOT going to do that for ALL layout.json files in Official and Community - every time there are updates or I make error corrections

With a working layout generator, that does not balk at long file names, the whole process can be automated with a simple batch file to do ALL layout.json files

That’s up to you, but the way I see it, you can spend about 15-20 minutes in Notepad++ every few months and have everything the way you like it, or not have everything the way you like it.

Well now I have a modified version if the MSFSLayoutGenerator that can handle Long Filename paths, I don’t have to do mess about moving anything :+1:

Thank you @ BuckledAttic985

I need this

Not mine to give away -You might want to ask BuckledAttic985 nicely - A “Please” never hurts, as opposed to a blunt “I NEED

Hi BuckledAttic985

Firstly apologies for this reply to a ‘resolved’ topic but just came across this today whilst trying to resolve the same issue!!

I would like to please request a link to the modified file and would be most grateful if you could advise the best way for me to go about it! Many thanks in advance and look forward to your response by PM (I can’t send PM’s at this point most likely because I have only just found/joined the forum!)

Cheers

Hi BuckledAttic985

After a long quest, I feel like you’re my savior!!!

I’m also having a problem with the length of the access path.

I’m also asking you to share the link so I can use the modified version of the Layout Generator.

Thank you in advance and good luck.

Best regards
