Live Weather Does Not Match

I almost forgot about that. Jorg seems to be pretty quiet about this all of a sudden.
He was saying we’ll get huge weather updates by the end of 2022 and even bigger updates in 2023.
What happened with that?

That was a storm chasing update if i remember correctly. Because of the complains after su7 i think that has been delayed. I could be wrong though. I think without effects of dangerous air movement in storms i think that is only a more of a visual thing.

I never heard them talk about a nowcast system.

Well, they really rushed this new system.

Storm chasing update lol.
The sim can’t even simulate Cb clouds right now.

Before SU7 Jorg was saying that they were working with Meteoblue to try to bring a major update to the weather engine and said everyone would be blown away etc. And then SU7 came and all we got was a sloppy METAR integration and then they never talked about it again. That’s why I suspect that METAR was just thrown in as a last resort because their other plans didn’t work out.

Yes, i remember this. In the end of 2022 or beginning of 2023 they said. We are not there yet, they showed a trailer on the update in November and they showed a lightning. Well it could only have been set up in custom-weather but maybe they wanted to show that storms has been improved? Well i’m not sure of that storm update but i only remember they told something about storms. It’s not what i think we want. We want an improved integration of METAR into Meteoblue weather because we will never see the old system back again. The implementation of METAR was the worst possible in my opinion.

I think su10 will really show what they want with this system. To deciding how thick and thin the layer should be is what Meteoblue does but now Asobo suddenly decides those layers. I thought we should get 60 layers from Meteoblue before i bought this sim. Now we get a thin low level layer and a high thick layer?

We will see what they mean with that soon i bet.

Look a tornado, well it looked like one, but there was no turbulence, and when I flew through it, it disappeared behind me but:

To me it looks like rain.

Jorg was saying something about satellites tracking storms and storm systems.

While there are some quality remote sensing available, i. e. Meteosat Rapid-Scan, I wonder what the integration of that would look like. The satellite doesn’t track the systems per say. Not mentioning that loads of Cbs are obscured in heavy stratiform rain systems. Not every storm is isolated and has a brutal overshooting tops with flanking lines sticking out of the RFD.

They really should just scrap the METAR system for now and let them test it on their dev machines. Or at least make it optional.
I wouldn’t mind switching to Meteoblue during summer months and to METARs when I expect low IFR conditions with foggy weather and low ceilings.

This is that hard part,

any of us see weather by own feelings, criteria.

Agree, thats why it’s hard to decide how weather looks like by looking at a METAR. It will be as Asobo decides it to look all the time. Broken for example will always look the same. Or low visibility always looks the same around airports because the weather needs to be as a METAR says for 30 minutes. It’s forced inplace even if the clouds are looking dynamic they feels generic.

If weather needs to be forced to be a simulator then fine. But can’t feel it’s realistic behaviour of weather. And to me a simulator should always strive to be as realistic as possible and with METAR it feels like it took many step backwards instead of forward.

At release i was looking forward to have more things from Meteoblue data implemented.

What should we look forward to now? They fixing the weather to feel dynamic and varied again that we always wished those older sims had? They starting over from scratch it feels like.

Maybe they force the weather even more around airports because many still shows screenshots the weather not matching METAR 100%.

ground winds went crazy

This thread is listed as a bug in the Developement Update list. Shoud the flag be updated from “feedback-logged” to “bug-logged” ?

Where is the lighting? With live weather

There is a specific thread for that Where are the thunder and lightning…?, but status is neither “feedback-logged” or “bug-logged”. So no idea if and when they’ll start working on it.

My bad thought it was live weather problem sorry for asking

I’m having the same problem and I can’t solve it, before the last updates it worked reasonably well, this is definitely a bug! Now even indicating weather with clouds or rain on the map screen when opening the flight it is always clear sky.

Are you using Developer Mode or made changes in it?

Brief description of the issue:

Live weather didn’t match the METAR at NZQN yesterday at around 2000Z. Instead of 4 degrees OAT and QNH 1008 pressing B gave me a QNH of 1013 and my instruments said the OAT was 2 degrees. Notably, I was getting quite a few connection error popups. Perhaps that was part of the cause.

I assume you are physically located in New Zealand if you were able to access the actual current METAR for NZQN?

The reason I ask is because New Zealand only reports METARS for two airports on the international WMO METAR feed. Specifically: NZAA and NZCH which are international airports.

MSFS LiveWeather does not have access to current New Zealand METARS for any other other airports other than Auckland and Christchurch.

The weather you see at NZQN comes from the MeteoBlue predictive model of what the weather at Queenstown might be - not on METAR reports of what the weather actually “is”.

I just want overcast skies to be done correctly and for the orange sunset clouds regardless of atmospheric conditions to go away. I don’t think I’ve flown into an airport with fully grey skies in months now.

I‘m not actually. I simply pulled the METAR from a standard website that I always use but I see now. I just assumed it was for NZQN so I didn‘t check. Therefore it may have been for NZCH. Thank you for clearing this up.
