As many of you have seen, most Liveries are generic strange colored one that Microsoft/Asobo picks commercial flights.
I know that if a player decides to use a livery other than what is the default for that plane, or has also been published by MS/Asobo, we just see a generic Livery.
I would like to see pilots indicate what Liveries, other than the already defaults I mentioned, and planes they use it on and where they got it from.
That way we can add those liveries to our Community Folder and actually see the liveries that other simmers are using instead of generic Liveries.
At least that would make airports look livelier and add a little more realism.
I would certainly add the Liveries even if I don’t fly those planes, just to be able to see the other simmers Liveries.
Hopefully we get lots of answers and we can make our sim experience more realistic.
Nice idea. The problem currently with this is, until recently, there was no standard format for liveries. And even now that there is, the liveries out there are a hodge-podge , many with issues that go unnoticed, but can cause problems. And not all livery creators are aware of the examples Asobo has created. And, even so, their example doesn’t cover all possibilities. Secondly, many of the liveries out there are quite old. I think you can still find liveries that aren’t compatible with various aircraft because Asobo changed the layout of their textures mid-stream, throwing another wrench in the machinery.
Point being, I go through and edit most of the liveries I download to fit my own needs and to fix problems. And I’m sure many other people do, too. So, finding a consistent set of liveries would be well nigh impossible.
As I understand it, Asobo is looking to address this to some degree. They have been working with AIG to create AI models for the statistically most populace aircraft out there, and some liveries for them. So, I think there is a partial solution in the works.
The issue has been discussed at length in the Q&A’s, and, unfortunately, there are multiple issues with addressing the problem fully and there’s not much that can be done about it.
Although I don’t have any installed, I do have the MegaPack of Liveries and was hoping that many used them and I could add at least the most popular from that selection.
I’m not sure what the state of the “Megapack” is. I should check it out. I had some from back in October, and I just dumped them all because it would have been too much work to curate them to bring them to current standards. Not to mention my Build.py script is not longer working and I can’t figure out why, so editing packages is a pain now.
Questions for users who have been following the Megapack:
Are all liveries up to current standard? (i.e. model directories and files properly formatted, etc.)
Have all liveries been created with AI capable 2K liveries?
Are there different packs 4K/8K/10K? I’d be happy with 4K, even happier with 4K with decals
Are all liveries written to the exact same standard?
Have all liveries been updated with correct icao_airline values?
Have all liveries been corrected for Use_generic, isAirTraffic, isUserSelectable?
If anyone could answer these questions, that would be great! Thanks!
Good question. I don’t believe I have a solve for your question, but related to it, here is a topic about this you might want to check out to see if you agree with:
