The more I study the layout of MSFS 2020, the more disappointed I am with the way MS and Asobo have dictated and limited the abilities of texture artists. Itās almost pre-fsx in what a painter is allowed. Yes - there are some EXCELLENT creations out there, but I am disappointed to see that 90% and more are simple āre-colourisationsā. The artists have had their design freedoms cut:
Many (all?) current default models make use of mirrored texture sheets and decals - that means asymmetric paint becomes an impossibility.
The MS Asobo method uses decals a lot - all fine and well, but even the real world aircraft have variations of factory paint schemes. The Cessnas for example - just visit the OEM web page and simple browsing shows MANY different side stripe graphics - In MSFS we have only one C172 design. (Or can we create and map our own decals?)
And with respect to the 172 - the texture mapping of the underside will cut off parts of the side decals and the different lighting/shade/reflection is just wrong.
I wouldnāt call the texture creation process fun either. I appreciate a lot of re-colourisers seem to be able to create folders to drop into the community folders, but it isnāt exactly easy or logical.
In the SDK thereās words about Texel density limitations - In FSX I was able to produce 4096 x 4096 texture sheets and get a very high pixel to centimetre (I could get up to 1000 pixels per metre) resolution that allows painting of metalflake and bump-maps and colour flip-flop paints. I can see that some liveries of ābirds of paradiseā aircraft are going to be somewhat more difficult to create.
We still canāt use vector graphic textures. But OK, the anti aliasing has improved a lot.
I may change my mind on much of this over time, but at first glance I am losing faith in MSFS.

I need help on using this Liveries megapack. I have followed the tutorial video to the details but I cannot see any of the liveries.
Below is where I install the megapack:
D:\Steam\steamapps\common\MicrosoftFlightSimulator\Community\liveriesmegapack
I read this thread and I removed all the liveries folder accept for 747 and Airbus just for testing. Still it does not appear in my Hangar profile.
Can someone help/guide me?

You need to copy the content inside the liveriesmegapack to the community folder. Not the liveriesmegapack itself.

How is that supposed to work - I have massive difficulties getting in there and inputting anything. Besides - isnāt Zendesk just and admin program for the forum software? I seem to have Zendesk forums all over the place from Oculus tooā¦

Can anyone tell me why the game shows me liveries for the wrong airplane in the hangar?
It is showing cub liveries for the Cessna 152 (which I have no liveries for at all)
If I click on one of them it just changes the plane to a cub.
Help!
Itās a bug with the way we do things right now, we make liveries available the way we shouldnt, it gets worse if you got too many then it will cause constant CTD and you end up reinstalling the sim as it will eventually not launch anymore. I warned people about this but if falls onto deaf ears.
