Thank you so much for your detailed response. If I encounter the issue with MSFS loading, specifically stopping at 68%, in the future, I’ll know exactly what to do to resolve it.
If locking the FPS to 60 in the Nvidia Control Panel caused the game to freeze at 68% during loading, have you tried restoring the settings in NCP to default
without having RivaTuner, MSI Afterburner and/or DLSS modifications installed and then launching MSFS again?
@SquatterHippo69
I could not agree more with you and thank you for homing in on the likely cause of the 68% issue. I have had this problem since launch day and have tried all the suggested remedies and found that the only thing that would work was to disable my ethernet port, boot the game and wait for the grey error message warning of no internet connection. I then re-enable the ethernet port and would get the game to usually load in around 8 minutes. I knew it would load when I noticed the intro video stuttering during playback. This was an indication that more resources were being made available to actually load the game rather than play the video perfectly smoothly. Your recommendation to use Riva tuner and set max frame rate to 30fps now works completely reliably for me and I no longer need to use the ‘ethernet trick’. My message to Asobo is this: why haven’t you realised that this is the likely issue causing users to be getting stuck at 68% and why did it take a user of MS24 to drill down and locate a likely issue. We should be able to completely disable the loading video until you resolve this problem. Personally speaking I have wasted more hours of my life watching this thing that I never really want to see it again !!
TenPatrol, I had the 68% issue with Nvidia Control Panel at default settings, without using RivaTuner, without using MSI Afterburner, and no DLSS modifications installed. So, exactly as you suggested, but still encountered the 68% issue.
Only after applying SquatterHippo69 solution, by using RivaTuner FPS at 30, was I finally able to consistently get past the 68% loading and use MSFS 2024 (sim beta at 1.3.10).
As per ShakerKitty10 who just posted as well, I reset everything and it doesn’t load. On default settings its actually a lot lot worse, takes ages to even get to 68% and then machine just sits there at 100% CPU and does nothing, left it for 40 minutes before giving up.
On Default Nvidia Setting, I get stuck on Loading Languages for Ages
Then it Loads packages and I get stuck on 6/1010 for ages. Eventually it very very slowly increases to 1010 before getting to 68% and then just does nothing.
Then tried Reloading RivaTuner, Put max frame rate to 30 and games loads in under 5 minutes, its night and day.
In addition to my earlier post my CPU is i5 - 7600 and GPU is EVGA 1080ti SC+
With the Riva tuner I can now boot reliably in 4:30s. This is the way forward until Asobo fix their bug ridden software.
Since my last post, I’ve been using Riva Tuner at 30 FPS limit and loading time was always 30 minutes (from the screen with logos).
Before yesterday’s launch,
I closed Riva Tuner,
re-enabled FPS limit (30) in NVIDIA Control Panel (Max Frame Rate and Background Application Max Frame Rate), and set Low Latency Mode to Ultra (limits frames prepared by the CPU for GPU processing).
Loading time, again, was 30 minutes.
But today, for the first time in a while, the game loaded in less than 5 minutes!
No change from yesterday’s launch.
Quick update after second launch today (had to close the game because desktop froze on me after I tried starting NVIDIA Control Panel - it’s a problematic app).
The game loaded under 5 minutes again.
They must’ve changed something!
The SU1 update was released yesterday. Since this was released, I still have to use Riva Tuner at 30 FPS, but no longer get stuck for a couple of minutes at 68%, it goes straight past it now and loads extremely fast (Around 2 minutes now from clicking the icon). The Developers need to solve the problem now, of the opening video routine tanking older CPU’s and not leave enough resources free to load the game, forcing us to limiting the frame rate.
Oh, I see that, in my case, SU1 was the cause.
I started having the 68% issues on the day they released SU1 beta (I didn’t join it)… and the issues stopped the day they injected SU1.
They definitely did something with the base game to accommodate for the SU1.
I’ve gotta see if the game loads fine if I disable the FPS limit in NVIDIA Control Panel.
I still need to limit it in the game to 60 to run smoothly though.
To anyone with this issue- after the sim is working, you can control/escape out and close rivatuner to get the framerate up to whatever your hardware is capable of.
Yes, I’m noticing now, it doesn’t even go to 68% anymore. Goes to 62%, then jumps into the 70’s and then just starts up in around 2 minutes from start to end. So much better from this side now running the latest SU1, but will still only load with Riva Tuner limiting the Frame rate to 30FPS. Clearly a resources issue and something to do with the opening video routine hogging up too much resources affecting older CPU’s. Hope they look and fix this.
To everyone that has had this problem and wants to see a fix, I have started a dedicated thread here. The issue we have is, that because this mainly affects Older CPU’s, I’m not sure we are going to get enough votes. Just because we have found a workaround, I would still want to see it fixed.
Yesterday I changed my setup a little. I’ll write what changed.
Was:
1 - Monitor, LG43nanocel TV, max 60Hz, HDR (HDMI)
2 - Monitor Asus 24, 144Hz, nonHDR (HDMI)
Since its release, the game rarely launched in less than 15-30 minutes. It often froze on startup, had to kill it via the task manager
NOW:
1 - Replaced with LG48oled TV, 144Hz, HDR (HDMI)
2 - remained unchanged, switched only connection to DP
As a result, I’ve been enjoying the game for the second day. It loads in 5 minutes at most.
No cache, no rolling cache, no StreamedPackages - nothing was cleaned or deleted. But that’s the only thing that changed for me yesterday. Maybe someone with a similar problem can repeat something similar?
If I install any newer nvidia drivers than 572.16, the sim gets stuck at 68%, even with the Riva tuner hack.
It’s not the nvidia app, it’s the driver. Anybody else?
So, stuck in 68% back again. It seems that if you don’t turn off the computer - but send it to sleep - then after waking up it starts to go into a stupor. After restarting the computer, everything loads again in 5 minutes.
I’ve noticed if you use the Xbox App to start the game, even using the Riva Tuner Hack, it goes to 68% and hangs for a while.
If you create a desktop Icon and launch the game from the desktop icon and have the Riva Tuner hack, you get to 62% and then the game just starts very quickly
