Is the 195 another Carenado style over substance effort?
It is indeed made by Carenado. But i havenât tried it yet. I like their last effort the V35b.
Hmm, Iâm a big fan of the 195 and Iâm sure itâll look the part, might wait to see what the community thinks firstâŠ
Instant purchase for me, Canadian or not. Sorry, Canucks.
No float version is a major bummer, though.
Personally I quite like Carenado planes. So far Iâve bought all their non-taildragger models and enjoyed them. They look fantastic. Sick eye candy for sure. In terms of function and operation, theyâre only slightly more detailed than default planes and arenât outstanding in any way. But theyâre definitely not bad.
That said, I tire of these ancient planes. It would be awesome to get stuff that was made in the last 30 years.
I have most of the Carenado aircraft, but theyâre a bit vanilla - look great but the physics are a bit suspect, particularly the tail draggers, also if there are problems they can take an age to release an update, as PC-12 users are finding out at the moment.
Then youâre looking in the wrong series.
Iâd be hard pressed to find a plane introduced in the last 30 years I was interested in. More ancient planes for me, please.
As soon as I saw âCarenadoâ my interest dropped to -10.
Expect bugs, and expect no one to fix them.
Every single one of Carenadoâs releases for MSFS, including those published as part of the LL or FF series, has gotten post-release patches to fix things. The patches might not have come as quick as some of us would like (and the patches for MS-published planes seem to be slower, whether Carenado is the dev or not), but they do come.
Every time Carenado releases a new plane somebody parrots this line that they never fix stuff and itâs just not true. Maybe it was true years ago but itâs not in the MSFS era.
My only experience with Carenado is in the EX-Plane world, and their track record there is pretty well known. They release a product, take a long time for an update, then take an even longer time to release a follow up update to fix the things they break in the first update, and then basically call it good, and move on.
Iâm leery of buying any Carenado product based on that experience. I am likely going to buy the B-35 V-Tail, as itâs only a $15 gamble, and I love the airframe.
And donât forget that milviz is doing an otter anyway which is another win
Pretty sure they were hoping to put out the Beaver but it wasnât going to be ready in time, so they grabbed something from Carenadoâs back catalog. Either way - I save $15
Iâm still burned that the An-2 has been ready to go for almost a year now and that hasnât been able to happen.
they were always a little better in FSX/P3D ( although there was an active community âfixingâ their planes via mods )
V35 is pretty solid though - worth the $15
You are correct, the Local Legends planes usually do have some kind of connection to the corresponding WU. The De Havilland Beaver was originally posed to be the Local Legend for Canada, but the team ultimately decided it would be a better fit for the free 40th Anniversary. Jorg spoke about it in the August 18th Q&A, which you can read here.
That being said, as a Canadian I completely understand your sentiment shared here and I will be passing it along.
That they were used in Canada doesnât really do it for me personally, especially when you have Canadaâs rich aviation engineering history to pick a plane from instead.
Itâs not parroting if youâve experienced it first hand.
They fix stuff eventually, at a pace that is so near glacial as to appear non-existent, and even then you canât help but feel lucky if they actually address everything. And of course they never acknowledge or communicate anything at all.
The PC-12 has loads of issues. Will it be fixed? Maybe. The V-35 is pretty good yeah, but the artificial horizon doesnât work. Will it be fixed? Maybe. You never know with them. Every single plane theyâve put out has remaining issues.
The way you say it, itâs a near inevitability they eventually end up fixing all their stuff, but they donât. They might bring out a patch to fix the most egregious (read: loudest complained about) problems eventually, and perhaps another if youâre really lucky, and then they just call it a day.
Particularly ask why they didnât release the plane as a Famous Flyer rather than a local legend if it has no real connection ?
Probably because the roadmap called for the release of something branded as a âlocal legendâ now, and if they changed it to a FF people would complain about not following the roadmap, because people are determined to get pointlessly grumpy about what things are arbitrarily called.
Canada is getting its (probably) most famous and influential plane for free with the anniversary update. Meanwhile this is another cool plane out there for those who want it. Why canât we just be happy?
The Local Legend series is about showing respect for and showcasing the aviation history of a country being features in the World update, this does neither.
So would Canadians rather have their local legend out alongside the Canada WU and have to pay for it, or would they rather get it a few weeks later for free?
Arguably Asobo has shown more respect to the Beaver than they have any other aircraft in the LL series by deciding it was so important that it needed to be in the base sim for everybody.
Maybe because it was included in previous version of FSâŠ
