Not to mention that, as has been noted, before the Beaver, the C195 was already a local legend in Canada. Sadly, kids these days don’t pay as much attention to history as they might.
Interestingly the history of the two planes is somewhat linked because they competed against each other for a U.S. Army utility aircraft contract (which the Beaver won).
Jorg said they decided to do a “swap”. Meaning, the C195 was originally intended to be in the Anniversary Edition. They instead put the Beaver in (which you now get for free) and the C195 was pulled out instead.
So the complaint is, that the aircraft was not actually Canadian. So would you instead have preferred them to in 2 months time try and develop some other Canadian plane, and release it in a really horrible state? Because 2 months to produce a plane from scratch is unrealistic. You would have gotten something that most things were non-functional and had plenty of bugs. How would that have shown respect to Canada?
Or maybe since the Beaver was so important to be in the Anniversary Edition, but the decision made to not pull out the C195, that maybe they just cancel the Local Legend for Canada. That would then have Canadians saying that was disrespectful.
A couple World Updates ago, the plane that was intended to be the Local Legend, the licensing agreement hadn’t been signed yet, so that particular plane couldn’t be released, so they pulled in a different plane instead. There wasn’t such the outrage then. People understood that hey, things didn’t work out like they were originally planned.
The whole controversy comes from the fact that the Beaver was moved into the Anniversary Edition. As a Canadian, aren’t you proud that EVERYONE gets to experience the Beaver. Canada’s most iconic plane. And they get to experience it for free. And from one of the best developers around, Milviz. I mean stop and think about it. If you got the Beaver as a Local Legend, it probably would have come from Carenado again. But instead you are getting an incredibly detailed Beaver from Milviz. And everyone gets to celebrate Canada.
I think people need to look at the bigger picture.
The skymaster has had a broken edm800 guage since launch on xbox. At launch the guage had non working bars and the texture was placed too low cutting off some of the numbers at the bottom. The bars were fixed by a main sim update but the texture being too low still hasn’t been fixed.
As for the new local legend, like others I am going to wait a few weeks to see if anything is broken on it before taking the plunge.
I’m pretty sure the Norseman got an endorsement or two - lol
Not sure why this topic took such a turn - the Beaver is the plane meant to be the LL for Canada. MSFS just made the executive decision to include it free with their 40th celebration rather than as a paid add on. I’m sure that when that release is made the Beaver will be referred to properly as ‘The Legend of Canada’ - I mean - that’s what I’ve always called it.
As to the release of the the Carenado C195 in its place? Not a terrible choice had it been float (or tundra) equipped as it was used as a bush plane in the region and is a beautiful airplane - it just lacks the one key component by not being Canadian…or having included even one Canadian registration numbered livery..but both of those issues can be fixed. Err not the Canadian thing - but the floats and reg thing
No floats, and with what’s coming out in the 40th, big hard pass on this. Xbox still does not have a float plane single capable of exceeding 124KT. Way too much in the same flight envelope available right now to deal with another tail-wagging headache.
Local Legend VII: Cessna 195 Businessliner has now been released. See the official discussion thread here:
