Lonely skies. Where are you all?

The sky in FS2024 is so empty! I flew for over an hour over the French Alps, one of the most scenic places in the world, without meeting anyone. I remember when FS2020 was launched the sky was full of pilots in many areas of the world. Do you have the same experience? Where are you all?

Just flew between Seattle and Vancouver, saw one other person. Same in LA last night, one.

Even years after release, 2020 would always have about a half dozen F-18’s buzzing LAX

Don’t know if no one’s on or it’s yet another thing with the servers.

i was just about to post the same thing,
not many of us in 2024 with multiplayer on it seems

i wonder if it’s working right, maybe you just can’t see them

I’ve seen plenty of folks in my usual stomping grounds - NYC, San Francisco, PHNL/Oahu in the Hawaiian Islands.

The player base is split between FS2024 and FS2020 now. Before the new game was released there was over 10,000 Steam players during Europe evening hours, today as an example there are 5,500 people playing FS2020 and 4,200 FS2024. It’s probably similar on xbox and MS store versions.

Yep, that makes sense! Could it be that something has also changed in the viewing distance of other pilots? Maybe the visibility range is too short?

During this time of troubled “early doors” (as my British pals would say), I have been keeping many options turned off to limit variables for my bug hunting. Multiplayer has been off for me. In general, I tend to fly with it off, even in 2020, but I do occasionally give it a go.

The way it is handled isn’t to my liking. I disliked seeing A320s hovering and maneuvering as helicopters over KMRY. I dislike how we are all treated as independent entities with nothing to tie us together like a true ATC would (yes, I know about VATSIM, thank you).

I love the idea of a coop world where we could be a part of something bigger where when I radio to CTAF for an uncontrolled airport there would actually be other simmers listening in and radioing their intentions, too.

For now, multiplayer is too much of a chaotic mess with everyone on top of one another, parked aircraft on the runway, etc. The chaos of it doesn’t appeal to me.

And it still is… On 2020

I think it’ll be quite awhile yet before you see the masses fully transition over.

Hi folks,

If you haven’t already done so, make sure you set your multiplayer option to “All Players” in the Flight Conditions menu before starting your flight. By default, this setting is set to “Live”, so you’ll only see other players who are using Live Time/Weather.

Thanks,
MSFS Team

I’m almost exclusively in Career Mode atm, which is a very lonely place.

I haven’t tried Multiplayer, and I likely won’t. In 2020, sometimes I got white nametags, sometimes black nametags, sometimes no nametags at all but strange red lights floating around airports. Not missing it.

Thank you for this. I think many people just have the wrong settings. I was at LAX yesterday messing around with some airliners and even at 11 PM West Coast time, there were a lot of folks buzzing around.

Also make sure you have nameplates turned on so you can see them more easily!

I can’t be bothered with multiplayer at the moment. The career is both a constant focus and a near-constant source of frustration. I think I’m out until the next SU.

I do a lot of flying offline between Rochester NY buffalo ny area, Macon Georgia area, Hiltonhead island SC area, and Charlotte NC area

Struggling to get in, like most of us germans(with or without Telekom)

I think there is some problem. I am flying right now over LAX with multiplayer option set to “All Players” and there is nobody, and there is no AI traffic either.

Nametags only appear within 5nm currently. There’s a wishlist item for a range slider.

That is so true… almost kind of scary in Career Mode… like a dead planet. No AI, no other players.

There is also a toggle that needs to be enabled in the General Settings. If the “Show Traffic Nameplates” is off it may appear that no other players are in the vicinity when they are. General>Flight Interface>Global Settings>Show Traffic Nameplates
