Making Tobii eye tracker work with SU9

Thanks for the tips - Ill get the original post updated

I have updated the original post to show troubleshooting for a corrupt C++ installation

Can you tell me how to toggle tracking on / off please?

I believe it’s just the F12 key on the keyboard… but I’m not at my system at the moment.
(This may also only work if you are using the ā€œDefault Keyboardā€ mapping in MSFS).

Jim

bind Camera>Toggle Head Tracking. I have it bound to mouse5 as well as a button combo on my yoke (i keep one button unbound and use it as a shift key)

Thank you. I’ll try that. It’s definitely not f12 as that resets the view for me.

That is a good workaround until a fix has been implemented to freeze the view without also resetting the view at the same time.

Does anyone else have the issue of tobii not available when you start the sim? It only seems to load up 50 percent of the time. I have made all of the changes as per the tutorial above. And the only way is to restart the sim each and every time.

Tobii’s behaviour is, at times, less than cooperative. If you open Tobii Experience and the message at the bottom says not found or ā€œthere is a problemā€, then do CTRL, SHIFT, ESC, this will open Task Manager, click on Services, scroll down to the Ts and you will find the three Tobii services that should all be running. Right click on each one and select ā€œrestartā€, and all should be well after a few seconds. Sometimes you only have to restart one of them.

If my tobii lights are red when I start the sim, then the tracking’s worked in the sim, every time.
I have run into a couple cases where the tobii stopped working after computer went to standby, but it was obvious because the tobii lights were off

Not exactly the same problem as you described. But I have a regular problem that if I switch focus away from the main MSFS Window when I switch focus back to MSFS Window, MSFS no longer sees the Tobii Eye tracker and I have to restart MSFS to get Tobii eye tracker back. I would say this happens about 50% of the time if I switch focus. I raised a ticket with Tobii and despite really good support from them we couldn’t get to the bottom of the problem. I put this down to teething problems in the bridge between Tobii and MSFS ad something I just have to live with for the time being

I switch away all the time and have never had this happen, once it’s running it stays running apart from the odd occasion when it won’t start running after login (I also use it as a Windows Hello Camera). I did have an issue when it was plugged into a hub, but that ceased to be when I plugged it directly into a USB port on the system.

I always try to remember to ensure it’s in the controls options menu before I start the flight so that I don’t waste as much time restarting the sim.

Interesting. Thanks. I’ll try that. Does that restart / start it in the sim running?

I think make sure it’s running in Tobii Experience before starting FS. If all the lights are activated on the sensor you should be good to go.

Ah well that’s where mine is different. My lights are always active but not always is it working / recognised in the sim. Thanks anyway. Will keep monitoring.

Ok so dropped out again whilst I was cycling through my cockpit views for no reason. Lights on, task bar icon indicates in use, restarted the services, and still not found in the sim. Gutted.

is the Tobii plugged into a Hub or straight into your machine? You might also check that it’s a on a high power USB port so it’s getting enough juice, I’m sure you may have seen this but it can lead to a solution https://help.tobii.com/hc/en-us/articles/360017744937-Is-your-Eye-Tracker-5-not-booting-up-with-your-PC-or-disconnecting-

I’ve never had a single issue with Tobii but I only use it for MSFS so my use is mores streamlined. I have the Tobii 5 which is plugged directly into a motherboard USB socket. I leave it turned off in Tobii Experience and only enable it prior to starting MSFS - it’s a single switch in the Tobii Experience software so a simple process. Works flawlessly for hours on end.

It drops out for me mostly if I pause the sim for more than a few minutes. Even though when I return the lights return on. Also drops out when I toggle head motion off and use the default views in order to change settings within the MCDU and cockpit in general. It’s so shaky trying to do so otherwise.

However, if I do not pause or recentre the view then it’s fine. No problem. It’s definitely a conflict with the sim rather than a usb power issue.
