It’s truly amazing what luck someone might run into while googling things. I just got a PC and was looking for a B-17 to fly around (even just a skin) until the Flyingiron one. but this… THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING! this looks amazing and so much work has already gone into it. I can’t wait!

Ah the memories this brings back of what would’ve been the first redux of b17 the mighty 8th played it around the 2000s and it and fs98 and novalogic f16 were pretty much all I played

Regarding the weapons I know policy has changed (yay) as long as it’s a visual thing only

Weirdly tho I don’t think any warbird actually has guns on anymore most are the broomsticks and even in the states can’t have a weapon on the aircraft without massive amounts of permits, hence in alot of the p51 flybys you hear a loud wind whistling sound it’s coming off the empty holes from the barrels

Seen a video recently of a p51 at a firing range setup to let a burst off all comments were unsure of the legality of it

Most of the flying warbirds use metal replica guns. The P-51 did actually make that whistling noise when in steep dives or turns. It comes from the innermost gun port, where the gun is / was actually recessed some 4-6" inside the gun which was staggered for ammo access.

A good example is this flying P-38 “White 33” from a local airport the guns are all metal- and have internals as well including ammo belts and fake rounds.

That is something I didn’t know amazing sound to hear none the less

yea, the sound in person is absolutely amazing. The planes that do not have the replica guns will have body color panels over where the gun ports will be to reduce drag.

Again thank you obviously you work or are near these a lot more than I’ve ever been my experience with them is all flyable museum birds

Wish I had the opportunity to work with them. I spend quite a bit of time around the flyable museum we have here in Colorado. Plenty of time to have some great conversations with some of the workers at West pac and the National Museum of World War II Aviation. The museum is great because you can walk right up to the planes. They are not roped off like most other museums and all of their planes are flyable!

Not sure if you are in the US or not, but if you are ever in the Colorad springs area it is a MUST visit museum.

NICE! That was once my own father and I. I grew up very close to a small airport that had yearly airshows and we would either watch from our roof, or go to the airport to see the planes up close. I have had the opportunity to crawl around every B-17 flying at the time (early '90’s - early 2000’s). And now as an adult I am just as nuts about old warbirds as I was as a 10 year old. I started knocking off my flight bucket list a few years ago and have taken flights in EAA’s Ford Tri-Motor and last year ‘FIFI’ one of 2 remaining B-29’s.

A cool article about the MicroProse B-17: An update on the MicroProse B-17G for Microsoft Flight Simulator - MSFS Addons

We also released some cockpit screenshots. Just a tease, really. We’re still doing a heavy pass on it.

Can you imagine about 50 people flying combat box formations taking off from a “base” in England, and flying a historical route to Europe…on VATSIM !

I’m in.

I love the PMDG DC-6, but this is gonna scratch the high altitude piston itch for sure.

Now THAT would be amazing to see! Let’s make it happen!

I’ve always thought about having a flight sim good enough to handle the Berlin airlift as a multi-player or SP campaign operation. Germany had collapsed and hundreds of thousands of people would have been starved out. Stories like this one need to be told so that folks today can better understand the NATO alliance and why it exists.
Berlin Airlift - Definition, Blockade & Date | HISTORY
war is all fun and games till someone loses..everything - but humanitarian efforts unequalled in both determination and scale either before or since the Berlin Airlift need to be told over and over and over again.
Imagine what the tower logs and pilot logbooks from that year and a half must have looked like

That link just goes to some generic content index for the site for me.

Shaping up to be an amazing looking add on.

Are there any plans for a civilian cargo variant (C-108) as well?

that’s because the story - the history - of it has so many angles. The incredible logistical heroics, the men and women, the planes and pilots, the marshalling of the food, medicine, and potable water, the fuel, the spare parts and raw materials to rebuild the infrastructure of a smashed nation. Then there’s the geo-political aspects and need to form a global alliance to prevent the use of a war-torn population as pawns in a power struggle, whether just then - or in the future. And finally - the incredible co-operation of allied governments to manage a global humanitarian crisis.
a feller would need to read many books and sift out a lot of disinformation now polluting that history in order to get a clear understanding of its immensity, necessity, and urgency.
maybe this resource has more information but this was such a huge operation I believe it really deserves far more attention, especially now, than it has ever gotten or been given
