Unplayable. Can’t even load a flight.
I guess this is not for CORE simmers. Was in a 5 hr queue to basically do setup and nothing else. Couldn’t fly and and when I tried, got the server error. Restarted and back in a queue. When I log in and I have to wait in a queue every single time to fly a beta test, time to hit the refund button on steam. Gold luck to PMDG, Aerosoft or any other Sim trying to navigate this mess to get a T7 to work.
Guys, I have created a topic to request that cloud streaming be made optional. We know the devs are very receptive to our request. We need to get the votes high enough to be on their radar
Here is the link
Hello everyone. After this truly frustrating but not surprising ‘mess up’ we’ve decided to get a refund. This has been a very disapointing experience but not all is doom and gloom as we can still enjoy Flightsim 2020.
The career mode is a disappointment. I expected, foolishly, something like FSX type of missions. You get information where you have to go, or a map with details and you go there, and it takes time, and you have to navigate.
Here, there is blue arcade boxes in the sky telling you exactly where to go, where to turn, guide through the whole flight lol. There is no skill in it. You have to be pressing enter for communication, flight plan is preloaded, no dynamic events, can’t change a plane. Half baked is weak expression
For Xbox users - is there a wasm adjacent app we should be installing? I haven’t seen one available.
Finally got into the sim this morning, mouse control is very strange. Any right click slams the view into the ground, exterior clicks do not really register all the time. Managed to walk around and got into the Bonanza but as other users pointed out all the Turtle Beach yoke settings are reversed or mapped strangely. Didn’t have time to sit and go through a remapping.
The server issues are causing the issues in sim too. The whole sim is streamed via servers, so it’s not like all issues will magically disappear once you finally load in. Everyone needs to give it a few days to stabilize before just assuming the whole thing is broken.
This is all streamed. Servers are still hammered. Give it a few days for these things to normalize.
Several restarts today but always stuck on the customize identity loading screen (currently sat on that screen for about 20 mins).
No regrets, we’ve got years of enjoyment ahead once things settle down.
If Microsoft cannot get enough data from their own cloud servers to out machines, it is broken, although maybe just “by accountant”
I was able to load in this morning twice.
But now it keeps getting stuck at 12%.
Internet traffic completely stalls. No read and no send.
So, nearly 24 hours after the giant kerfuffle of a launch, I booted up my PC to have a shot. These are my brief thoughts.
System Specs - (Graphics settings set to High, recommended by the sim as it detected my hardware)
13700K
Rtx 3080
32 GB 5600mhz ram
1Gbps internet.
- Game loaded fairly quickly, I selected free flight for my first session. Everything went fairly smoothly, except when I was set for departure in the cirrus vision jet, most settings on my thrustmaster a320 copilot stick were out of whack. Tried going into the settings to change things back to exactly how they were in msfs2020, but it just wouldn’t work. I had to use the keyboard for flaps. For cockpit view, I’m used to the directional switch on the top of the stick to look left , right , etc. That didn’t work either, no matter how many times I tried to change the settings.
I exited free flight and tried a landing challenge that’s also in FS2020, (to see what the differences were), and to me , (visually) the colours were duller, but the textures were sharper. Had similar issues with the a320/hotas thingy , but this time, the directional toggles were correctly binded inside the cockpit. I still had to use the keyboard for flap settings. I tried to change settings, and I couldn’t get it to work.
- Is it worth it?
It’s hard to say because I only spent ~1-2 hours in the sim, mostly in free flight.
But, from what I’ve experienced so far, I can say the following -
A. The sim runs really smoothly, both from a menu perspective, then when flying. Everything is pretty smooth. Loading times for a given activity are MUCH faster than FS2020. You pick your activity, wait a couple of seconds and you’re ready to fly. A big plus!
B. Msfs 2020 had an expansive graphics menu and you could tinker with dozens of different settings. It does not appear that MS have given us the same depth of control in this version. That being said, I haven’t spent too much time in the menus as i wanted to fly!
C. I bought the premium deluxe version, and I’m really impressed with the amount of aircraft that they give you.
D. There is a MASSIVE issue with my flight stick. I use the thrustmaster a320 replica version. I must have spent 30-40 minutes constantly attempting to bind the keys/buttons to exactly how I had them in FS2020, but to no avail. I hope this is ironed out in the coming days, because there’s no way I’m using the keyboard as well as the stick. I just don’t have the room for it. It would be almost unusable if this issue can’t be revolved.
E. Flight modelling/physics -
Fairly similar to MSFS2020, perhaps a tad more realistic. I’ll use the landing challenge at Llanada Grande as an example. Although I only flew it a couple of times in the new version, I get the feeling that my control inputs need to be a tad more precise in order to correctly maintain control over the aircraft. When at low power and max flaps close to touch down, you can really feel that small little crosswind. I found myself dialling up the thrust a tad as I got closer to the ground in order to maintain control. No complaints. The modelling/physics are just as good, if not slightly better than MSFS 2020.
F. In summary. Crisp looking sim/game. Loads quickly, runs smoothly. I didn’t check my FPS, but it was at least 65+ fps at high settings with DLSS set to quality in 1440P. I also noticed that the framerate didn’t dip in free flight as I flew closer to the ground and around tall buildings. This was one of the worst bugs of MSFS2020. If you wanted to fly around a city with densely populated buildings and textures, your framrate would suffer. I had no such issues and framerate remained constant. I also had a look at the textures in free flight. I flew around my home city of Melbourne, Australia. I was expecting the water in the river to look more dynamic. Expected to see waves/currents/splashes, but the river looked flat and a bit fake. That being said, the reflections of the buildings off the water are brilliant!
Can’t wait to spend more time with it.
Trees to big again … mope a mod will fix that soon
Why i cannot vote? Are this problems no experience???
server issues
I think I am going to go this route also.
I stuck on starting a flight… iam from germany.. when i switch vpn to american server I can start a flight .. that should not be the Solution!
Guys this post is gaining traction. Let’s get these votes in so our voices can be heard. Hopefully it can get on their radar before the developer stream this afternoon
I had to reload the game because I accidently unplugged my external 4tb SSD thunderbolt 4 drive, but after that the issue i was having yesterday and this morning of the video and the audio skipping is now gone. So it was a good thing i redown loaded the game and it is running much smoother. My new Thrustmaster Boeing controller yoke and yoke pack comes in tonight so hoping it will be good, I can alway jump back to 2020 if it is not working correctly.
Still unable to start a flight.
Loading takes forever.
Is there an update about this issue pushed through yet?
