No problems here. G2 Reverb, Windows 11 Pro with latest updates. Flew 2 hours today without any issues.
Thanks for the confirmation. Looks like I might have a hardware issue then.
For those using the HP G2 with WMR and the upcoming 24H2 update this fall. Send an email to HP’s Global Executive Escalations @ ecrmgr@hp.com and ask them if HP will be doing anything to protect our investment (like a software update?). This department is pretty responsive. Just a thought…
I know they won’t do anything, so I won’t bother with emails to HP. It’s Microsoft’s fault for discontinuing WMR support. Instead, I will delay the installation of 24H2 update for as long as I have G2. I want to upgrade it anyway, just waiting for a good successor.
My plan exactly.
Me too sadly. Block that update until my reverb dies. The speakers are already loose and crackle and have since day 1 but my cable is holding up for now.
Shame.
Here is HP’s initial response, see what the comeback with:
Hello Rick,
*My name is xxxx, and I am reaching out to you from HPs Executive Offices. I received your messages regarding your questions about the Reverb Headset and I’d like to take a look and see what I can do to assist you. *
*I understand you are concerned about Microsoft deciding to end support for the Mixed Reality Portal software, and I am sure you are one of many that would love to continue using your device passed this year. *
*I do not have the knowledge or expertise in this matter directly, but I do have colleagues on the team that does, which is the Workstations team. I have contacted them regarding this question to see if they have any additional information or insight to a solution. *
Once I hear back from them, I will be sure to let you know. In the meantime, feel free to reply and let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns.
Thank you and I will follow up with you again soon,
Lovely boiler plate from the “Executive Offices”, including the misspelled phrase “using your device passed this year.”
I am certain there will be little “additional information or insight to a solution” coming forth from xxxx but I’ll gladly eat my words if I turn out to be wrong.
Realistically what can they do?
That said, I’m glad you’re emailing them, im surprised you got a reply and I’m glad you’re sharing it with us.
I’ll keep my fingers crossed but I won’t hold my breath.
Actually, the important point is that even though the death of WMR has been know for many months, HP did not see the need to prepare a proper informative response for Reverb customer inquiries and instead sends this inane boiler-plated “let me see what I can find out for you!”
I just receive the exact same reply, except the name of the guy wasn’t XXXX but Josh
Wow that’s one wordy email to say very little indeed
Oh “AI Josh”, I know him!
No surprise, here’s the response and surprised you can still purchase this item:
Hello Rick,
*I wanted to follow up with you as I was able to speak with the Workstations team and they were able to provide some additional information and insight to the situation. *
*Windows Mixed Reality(WMR) is expected to be completely removed in a future release of Windows 11 version 24H2, which aligns with the November timeline you expected. As the software is a Microsoft product and release, we have no control over their decision and cannot change the MS/Windows software to compensate. *
*Currently, the MS portal is still available and our advice in order to keep WMR and keep using your headset would be to not update Windows to a version where WMR is no longer supported. This would also mean disabling automatic updates from MS/Windows in order to ensure you stay on the current version. You can also attempt to re-install the WMR tool if it happens to be removed suddenly as well to see if you can continue use, however there are no guarantees at this time. *
Despite this not being the ideal situation for you, I do hope this information helps so that you can continue to use your headset and specific software. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please let me know.
Thank you,
Probably pulled that info from this very thread.
Where? If you are referring to eBay, Facebook, Mercari, and other resellers, that means nothing. It’s not available as a current production model, and they have been sold out through authorized retailers for who knows how long now.
Looks like my cable was faulty. Ordered another and I’m back up and running. I’m on my 4th cable since I’ve had my Reverb G2. Unacceptable!
Look on the bright side and use that quality issue to make yourself feel better about having to buy a different headset sometime in the next 18 months or so.
I still have the original cable and I use my G2 almost daily, since I bought it in late 2020.
Unfortunately, yesterday my Reverb developed a dead pixel, right in the middle of sweet spot.
You are not alone. I too am on my 4th cable and third HP Reverb G2 since my initial purchase in Nov. 2020. Two cables and one headset were replaced under warranty. I agree that the general lack of reliability of the unit and cabling is unacceptable. In my opinion this product has damaged HP’s reputation.
My latest cable purchase was in March 2024. As soon as it fails I will be looking to upgrade to a high end VR headset. I thoroughly enjoy the VR experience in MSFS.
