Microsoft, What is Your Update Plan for Earlier Famous Flyers & Local Legends?

I wouldn’t ever bet on that happening if I were you…

Reverse engineered? I assume because MS owns those aircraft they’ve received a copy of the source files. If not we’ll probably never get some aircraft we paid for.

No, I’d submit that paying $199.99 for the Aviator Edition - $70 over Premium Deluxe - for broken products 8 months after release is a major problem, most especially for Microsoft who depend on continued sales by these kinds of customers to support the enterprise.

Is it a world ending issue? Uh, no, this entire simulator hobby is not a big deal in the grand scheme of things. Obviously my comments should be taken in that context, rather than interpreting them in the least charitable way.

Yeah, there is a word for knowingly taking money for broken products that lawyers, judges and police are well aware off.

I started this thread, am fully aware of Microsoft never participating in this discussion, fixed their Stratoliner via my mod and offered it to them for free.

I don’t bet on them doing anything, other than coming here and telling me how they read every post, blah, blah, blah.

I’ve learned over the years on this forum and others that flight sim community members give freely to the hobby in great numbers. It’s great.

Maybe Microsoft lawyers have determined that taking free community work, even under the umbrella of some NDA or contract that the creator signs, could lead to a lawsuit down the line and thus they just have a policy of not even considering it. Perhaps they also don’t want to risk upsetting the developer they contracted to make the item in question (although I assume Microsoft makes them sign iron-clad contracts that state clearly the creator gives up creative license and limits any future legal action.)

Now, with all that said, how easy would it be to request a budget line item of $25,000 (rounding error in MSFS revenue), and offer $1,000 to 25 community members to “buy” their mods, integrate it into the sim, and push them out to all users. It makes so much sense to me that I can’t believe it hasn’t been discussed within MSFS headquarters!

I don’t think they’ve thought that hard about this particular issue. I think they just don’t care.

I was not downplaying your efforts or intent. Only that just so far as I’m aware there’s 4 or 5 reasons legally it is very unlikely they will take you up on your offer.

Enlighten us? Why is it a (or rather 4-5) legal matter?

If there is a plan, it’s probably to outsource any further development to AI or India or wherever all the other development work is now being doing for MSFS.

Some developers already do it.
