Milviz Pilatus PC-6 Porter

Right. It will go off if it senses that a crash has occurred.

Not sure what is going on then.

I’ll do a video.

Also, if I don’t use reverse after landing I have to set the mixture to low idle otherwise I cannot stop the PC-6 with brakes alone. Is this how it should be done?

That does indeed sound like the ELT alarm. But it really shouldn’t go off on a touchdown like that. Weird.

And yeah, on the ground the condition lever should be put to low idle to reduce unwanted acceleration on the ground.

EDIT: make sure to test the Porter without any mods and see if the ELT still goes off. I just found out that the ITT gauge issue was caused for me by either the black panel cockpit mod or the Hornet livery. I still need to check which one exactly.

The sound also goes off with just the PC-6 in the community folder.

Maybe I should go to the BB forum.

Another question: sometimes I get a “Battery hot” amber warning when starting the engine. Exact same starting procedure.

And sometimes the “Generator” amber warning does not go away when I switch on the generator after starting the engine. Have to reset it.

Sounds like you either left the starter on too long, or maybe some hardware interfering because the gen light will be on until you turn off the starter.

If you forget then you can use the generator reset to clear that. Not sure why you are getting the warning horn. Can’t replicate it here. Soon as your tire chirps the second time after your little bounce, the master caution/horn goes off…weird. Do you have aircraft stress damage set to disabled?

Ok, thank you, I will check my starting procedure and also my hardware inputs.

Yes, aircraft stress damage is off. It’s really happening at each single landing. Is there anything I can do to track this down?

Most common reason I get an un-enunciated siren after landing is because during landing I’ve pitch trimmed myself outside of the green line, and it’s warning me about it so I don’t try to take off in that configuration.

I think you hit it on the head with that. It’s not a warning about the landing you just made, but a take-off configuration warning activated because the wheels are on the ground and your speed is high. I get it sometimes in the Porter too.

I will check that.

That was it, thank you. Now that I know I can deal with it.

The main dev of this is on holiday, but I believe we had the trim warning implemented.

Not all PC-6’s have this - but basically if the weight on wheels contact is closed and your trim is out of bounds for a safe takeoff the warning horn goes off. (there may be other conditions like speed, not sure)

It would make sense, because you touched down then the horn goes off (with no other annunciators lit)

In the real aircraft there was a service bulletin on this because pilots would forget to reset the trim and on the next flight crash because it was left in a trimmed state that was not safe for a takeoff.

Good deal. I feel like if you’re trimming way back for a super slow & short landing, you’re doing it right. Good luck. Porter’s a super sweet plane.

That’s fine, I just need to reset the trim and the alarm stops.
The PC-6 is a wonderful aircraft and it’s now part of my bush flying fleet.

In the analog version, how can I switch off/on the GPS units? I’d like to have them off for engine start, or is it not necessary?

I think AV master is on the switches to the left.

Thank you, but I want to switch the GNS 530 off while Bus 1 is on.

And flying VFR I want both off while both buses are on.

Perhaps you Can pop the breaker pr tuen the Unit off?
