It is just because Series X is set with a higher LOD, as even a low-end PC doesn’t have this problem when using 100 LOD
I don’t think so. Runway lights will work fine if you are flying something simple like a Cessna. They will also work fine if you turn off live weather which is the other work around albeit not a great one as live weather is what adds variety and fun
There was also something about PC graphics cards having something called VRAM which the Xbox doesn’t have. It gives PCs a bit of an edge over Xbox when it comes to RAM usage and so would help a low end PC be more stable than the Xbox
XBOX X - SU14 still have floating RW lights. I’m thinking more and more it’s a memory problem.
If only Asobo would let Xbox users have a little choice with the graphics settings.
Where are you getting those? That US airports? Only place I’ve ever seen them and not tried flying in US since upgrading to series X
I only fly in UK but I have always, from time to time had floating lights around airfields makes approach difficult when lights are 6 feet above runway. ![]()
I’ve noted in UK as well.
Seems to me it only happens with airports close to sea level.
I’ve saw the bug in Norway, north of Spain, Cancun… Cancun for example has a very simple default airport, and always happened during my tests, so IMO it is not related to PC configuration, as a lot of others complex airports are working fine.
I tested with two different PCs, a low-end setup and a high-end. Even the low-end will not have the issue when setting the LOD higher than 99.
I’ve had the same issue since launch on Xbox Series S.
A few month after went back to PC and runway lights were there aside from a couple airports in Northern Europe.
I see this thread is from 2022.
It’s January/2024 and this still hasn’t been fixed on Xbox Series S.
I keep the Xbox at my office for short hops on slpe days, and night flights with low or 0 vis are close to impossible.
I have done everything possible within the rolling chace options.
Just as OP mentioned, I’ll gdt the approach lighting but absolutely no runway lights.
I do have taxiway lights, but the terminal lights are all gone as well. The only lighting ar the ramps/gates are reflecting from inside the building.
MSFS has not added this to their bug log AFAIK.
Regardless, considering the less than necessary amount of RAM available on the Xbox Series S seems to be the issue, especially with the memory leaks and Asobo’s continued effort to make the sim more stable on xbox in general.
But Asobo/Microsoft you guys very well know the sim can barely run on Series S.
MSFS needs to be Series X and Pc only.
You guys have thousands of newcomers to the sim getting a Series S due to the price point only to experience constant black screens, CTD’s and issues like the runway and airport lighting.
I’ve yet to complete an A320 flight over the Alps without black screens.
I have this issue too, runway and papi lights missing at destination when LOD is set lower than 100. I fly VR only and unfortunately I can not set LOD to 100 when flying planes that are more heavy on the framerate (737, DC-6 etc.) without getting stuttering on my 10700 / rtx 3070 system. I mostly fly in Norway. Asobo not acknowledging this bug is really discouraging. It’s been like this for years now so I have given up hoping this ever will get their attention. The only solution will be upgrading the PC.
There are existing bug reports:
Same for me. On Xbox s
same here XBOX S.
It’s insane to see that it’s 2024 and this is still happening on series S ![]()

The number of things we settle on is not acceptable, especially at this price. The sim and its addons are not cheap AT ALL, especially since I bought a series S mainly for this reason.
100% agree with you!! It is nuts that there are still floating lights, uneven surfaces that “crash” your plane as you taxi out or land, and cockpit instrument screens still going black.
It’s related to multiplayer. turn off multiplayer, no more floating lights.
That’s not true. I have multiplayer off and still see the issue at some airports.
Touch wood, mine are sorted. I also refreshed cache.
Me too… never used multiplayer but having this issue sometimes.
Hello,
if it can help others i had the same issue over and over again. The solution that i found worked for me is i turned PHOTOGRAMETRY OFF. Since then i can enjoy night flights again.
cheers
are you able to see the runway light easily during moderate rain from a very long distance.
I always see on youtube people able to land at night and raining day but when i tried, there is nothing until you are very close to the ground then the light suddenly appear. But interesting is that I can see the street lights from a distance during rainy day but not the runway light
