MIssing essential packages?

I’m getting this error and have followed this solution but it just replaces the folder I delete and i get the same error.

Is there another fix?

Maybe one of the existing topics can help you. You can participate to one of them so only one remains as the main source to help other users having similar issue.

Thanks but I can’t see an actual solution anywhere. Some say do a fresh install others say that doesn’t work.

Is this still a live unresolved issue or is there a fix?

I am not aware of other advice than the ones that comes in the existing topics related to that issue or an official fix, I guess root causes are multiples. I would say that if you tried most of them and it did not work, one solution is to uninstall/re-install the sim even if you know that it is not guarantee that it will fix your problem.
Have you checked this post ?:

How did you fix this? I’m not having any luck with this…

I am now getting the Missing essential packages message . . was there a fix ?? I cant find anything ?

Couldn’t find anything either! Reinstalled the Sim after the last update and all’s good for now…

I am getting the same message now after the latest update. Tried deleting that fs-bases folder and the wgs folder. Alos tried the Microsoft app repair function. No success. Any other suggestions?

I have the same issue. Deleting the WGS folder did nothing. It was also an odd suggestion because the folder had not been updated in years. I also did not have a lot of confidence in it because the first work-around was through the profile-content manager, which I cannot get to.

Deleting fs-base-history got me past the “Missing essential packages” message, but MSFS froze while loading.

Trying “repair” of MSFS and the xbox apps did nothing. The only other solution I am seeing is to reinstall.

Back with the same problem again. Frustrating!

Same here, got new pc few days ago only for flightsim, got missing essential packages window after install. When you click install (to install the essential packages) the pc hangs in a nearly blank screen.
After restarting the game always comes back as if it started for the first time and you have to do all your settings again. Therefore unuseable. I hope they come with a fix soon.
Reinstalled 3 times now, doesn’t fix it.

Still no answers ?!?

So what are these missing “essential packages” ?

Do we really have to re-install the whole thing again ?

frustrating …

Update . . re-installed everything AGAIN

Works fine . . everything great

Tried it today - MISSING ESSENTIAL PACKAGES again

There must be a shortcut somewhere , do I have to new install everytime !

I had my last flight on July 31st and logged off without any problems. Yesterday I wanted to start the sim again and got stuck with with that dreaded message “You are missing packages that are essential to run Microsoft Flight Simulator”. I read all the contributions in the Forum and tried the suggestions with deleting the WGS and fs-base-history folders as well as X-Box repair, log off-log on etc. No change.

I am using the PMDG 737 with lots of custom key allocations and really do not want to re-install everything - and even less so as some contributions seem to suggest this does not help either.

Any suggestions? Many thanks in advance

EDIT

  1. Check UserCfg.opt to see last line for where your “Installed Packages” are.
Write it down or save to Notepad.txt.
Save your UserCfg.opt file if you want to re-use it.

  2. Save any mods that you have.
Save your Community Folder then delete it.
Or just rename it to Communitysave.
    Delete your UserCfg.opt file.

  3. Start FS2020
It will run the install program as a new install.
It will download the initial 2.07 GB launcher and then display the install screen.

  4. When the install screen displays, tell it where the “Installed Packages” are installed.
A new UserCfg.opt file is created.
Missing or corrupt files are replaced/corrected.
FS2020 loads and runs but displays the prompt. "Insert your Disk’.
    a. Go to Windows Apps and uninstall “Gaming Services”.
    b. Go to the MS Store and search for “Gaming Services”.
    c. I did not see it but it displayed the “Xbox” app.
    d. Click it and the Xbox app updates itself.
    e. Run FS2020.

  5. if everyting is okay, rename your Communitysave folder to Communuty.
Update your UserCfg.opt or replace it with your saved one.

Enjoy FS2020.

Only takes a few minutes.
All controlleer mappings are saved via the cloud.

Many thanks for your prompt reply - I have seen your suggestion in earlier posts but did not try it yet. One question before going ahead with your advice: are my custom keyboard key and joystick button allocations saved with this method? I have quite a bit of extra equipment mapped and do not really want to go through the allocation process again…
Any hint is highly appreciated.

Good that you asked.

I just tried it.
MS has changed the install process from MS Store to the Xbox app.
I’m resolving problems now from the procedure.

Edit:

I did the above procedure and it worked as described except that when
FS2020 re-installed, it asked for me to insert the Game disk.

To resolve this:

  1. From Windows apps, delete Gaming Services.
  2. Go to MS Store and search for Gaming Services.
I could not find it there.
  3. I clicked on the Xbox app and it updated the Xbox app.
  4. FS2020 then loaded.

I’ll update the procedure above.

Many thanks again for your prompt reply. I realize that I should do a bit more backups just to be on the safe side. As I am currently rather busy it may take some time before implementing this but I will definetly follow your advice and post the results here.
In any case: Many thanks for your support!

Hi @MSFSRonS ,
Can you open your Xbox app & under Settings | About, copy & post the version information you see?
Currently on my PC it shows:
2408.1001.14.0 (Xbox)
2422.91.26002.0 (Gaming Services)
7.124.5142.0 (Game Bar)

I’m curious if your versions are the same, or if there is no information for Gaming Services as you mention you deleted that.

Okay, here it is.

As I stated, I deleted the Windows App , Gaming Services.
And then went to MS Store to get it.
But the MS Store search did not show a Gaming Service app.
It showed the Xbox app as a search result.

So, I clicked the Xbox app on the MS Store.
It updated the Xbox app & installed the Windows app, Gaming Services.
Now, FS2020 does not request the install Disk.
