Missions like FSX

THe Problem i see:
There are some people like me or my sons and their friends who would like to just play , Fly a challenging mission with certain challenging weatherconditions changing for example, a certain limit of altitude for example , full loaded plane, not enough fuel for carburator mismanagment, a certain plane on this part of the mission, later you get a different plane to fly with (or as an option) YES LIKE A NICE COMPUTERGAME.
currently there is nothing like this (even if it WAS in FSX and great and NO it did not end in a arcade sim)

and yes , there is a kind of mission editor , like bushtripinjector
where you can program " triggers" but its way too complicated, ( havent seen not even one mission programed with “triggers” besides the speech text", so far) and not even somehow similar like the "Instant Mission Maker " was for FSX.
And you cant make a mission with changing , Plane, changing Weather after the first 3 legs f.example.
You have to split it into each mission (part one, part two , so on
)
With the "Instant Mission Maker " it was possible to have One Mission , with different planes , limited altitudes, and many other challenging and thrilling things like an Adventure has and each one in the family can try and fly and get into the next level. (Leg, waypoint, city, challenge)

so on ..so on. . but maybe there are too many “old pilots” that are scared that by this way the simulator would end in a playstation Arcade game
only because they dont like this ..and think :
" If you want to change plane, change it, if you want to change louout, change it, if you want to change weather , change it
 "
So ,
I know this is a SIMULATOR , yes but pleeeease give it also a little possibility to have a
, little Challenge Mission Gameplay" too . ( and no, it doesn t have to be GTA or similar)

Agreed: FS2020 can be a sim for simmers and a sim for gamers. There is no reason those two things need to be mutually exclusive.

Missions have been a part of MFS since 2004 (if not earlier); about 20 years so the idea that missions will somehow compromise the overall sim is silly.

FSX Missions were GREAT because:

  • They told me a new story.

  • I could escape into a different setting.

  • Lots and lots of SURPRISES.

  • A sense of purpose and urgency.

  • Engaging ATC.

  • Fumbling around looking for the correct switch.

  • Exploring the gamut of aviation.

  • Scratch my “Hero Complex.”

HERE, TAKE MY MONEY.

Couldn’t agree more!

Every real flight has a purpose and a goal. FS is a sandbox and I think we’ve all developed a way to make our own purpose and goal for our sandbox flights, but it’s nice to not have to make up the “reason” for the flight yourself. Missions let you act out scenarios we might not have thought out on our own.

Even a simple story like “a pilot went down in this remote area and needs to be found” completely changed the dynamic of the flight and opens up a new experience that we wouldn’t have if we were just flying from point a to b on our own.

Love missions and would happily pay for quality missions to be developed.

If you go on Flightsim.to
and search “Civil Air Patrol Search - FSX Mission” you will find an old FSX mission converted to MSFS2020 about CAP! I have not played it yet but will tomorrow! This is not self-promotion! I am just the guy who filled out the request for the mission to be made and want you all to know that it is available.

Lol I’ve just remembered, purely a bit of fun
Amsterdam Emergency or whatever it was called

Depart Amsterdam, vertical climb to 12k, stall turn and bank left, dive, brake and land downwind at Rotterdam heading straight for the ambulance. Mission complete all in about two minutes or something ridiculous!

The things we do when we’re bored eh?!?!

There were so many awesome missions in previous versions of Microsoft Flight Simulator. I can’t wait to see which ones have been remastered for this version.

This link will take you back to the missions that were a part of MSFX and it’s various expansion packs:

These are not missions. It’s a disgrace. I waited so long for them, I ended up with a depressing Bushtrip. No mission compass, no POI for waypoints. There’s not even a separate missions category! Even adding AI planes and their negotiations with ATC is now considered too much trouble.
Although, several mission files mention that they were created by Perfect Flight, known for its shoddy workmanship. I guess they outsourced all the missions.

I am very disappointed.

Extremely disappointing — this was really all that interested me in the update and this is it? Where’s the search and rescue? Where is Area 51? Where’s the Nantucket Ariel chauffeur?

My heart sank as I looked through them.

It’s clear there was minimal effort put into these “missions.”

Agree. These really aren’t missions. A long way off from FSX.

The long wait continues

These are good however I have to +1 that it is not FSX level of missions, strange that they overlook something like this.

Then again it is a great update, adding thermals for gliders also makes finally weather a bit more realistic for any type of flight.

Probably the SDK isn’t jut made for that level of customisation as FSX did.

Perfect Flight is trash, the ones they were selling are trash, a flight plan and nothing else so no surprise there, no skills whatsoever are involved to make these “bush trips”.

It’s free content, you haven’t lost a penny
And of course you are welcome to create your own missions whenever you want.

I am yet to find a sense in bushtrip included with MSFS, they are a waste of space.

Third parties made some very cool trips with some audio guide via text to speech which add at least a layer of interest, the others are just pure flight plan which you do not need as I get randomization with NEOFLY 4 really.

My first impression on the new update:

Under “Activities”, “40th Anniversary”:

“Caribbean Landing” – worked fine.

“Sitka Approach” – worked fine.

“San Juan Island Run” – Inoperable throttles at start of 2nd leg.

“Monsoon” – Inoperable throttles, bummer.

MORE CREATIVE AND OUTLANDISH FSX-STYLE MISSIONS PLEASE.

(Happy to pay for them.)

Agree. I would happily pay for a selection of FSX missions remade to the same standard or better as they were in FSX or brand new one’s like the concepts i made a couple years back now. With unique voice acting, triggers that work, objectives to hit etc.

FSX came out 16yrs ago. We should be progressing with the missions not going backwards. The Top Gun DLC had more of the right idea.

“Rome–Naples Airline Run” – Unpredictable throttle controls.

“Flying Blind Across the Channel” – Different start locations, unable to disengage Autopilot and ALT Hold, weird.

I think I’ll wait for the beta versions before attempting anymore 40th anniversary activities.

I think Manston might have closed since then, at least it wasn’t modelled in MSFS when I last looked.

No, takeoff is from Lydd Airport (EGMD). The system was simply remembering my last position and starting me from there, on the next startup.

Couldn’t help myself so, I tried it again tonight.

100% Completed. Excellent Mission. Best one so far (when it works).

IMHO, these FSX-Style Missions are the lifeblood of MSFS.

Yes, Sim’s and Games can co-exist. One doesn’t necessarily preclude the other.

“Aleutian Cargo Run” – Extended wingtip floats inoperable. As you approach the destination runway (PADU), the lighting is so dark, it’s as if the monitor was turned off. Blind landing. FSX version was much better.

yeah very big disappointment. fsx missions were better.
