excuse me?
Yes indeed. But then we are dealing with Microsoft here so duplicating the existing forum and then forcing a choice at login is hardly a major task or beyond Microsoft. So I am sorry but I dont buy the technical arguements. It is a job of a few hours for an experienced operator. Propagating a separate DNS entry will probably take longer than creating the thing should they want to separate it completely.
A few hours….okay.
This is a fair point and I must assume that once support for 2020 will end,
something I hope is still quite some way away, the 2020 forum will all but have died. It is perfectly reasonable to assume that the uptake of 2024 will continue. So once support dies for 2020 it wont be flyable anymore as they will pull the backend so posting on a forum might seem to be a pointless thing to do. But we arent there yet and we are dealing very much with the current situation where this current forum is being flooded with all the 2024 issues and posts something that will only get worse.
I just ran a search of the forums for all posts that both the 2020, and 2024 tags on them, and there were more than I imagined. But not as many that have neither.
Did you know you can negate results? For example “-tag:msfs-2020 -tag:msfs-2024” will show any posts that have neither of those tags. That could make it easier for some enterprising forum moderators to tidy house. Further restrict that initially to only show open threads, and not closed or archived ones to clean up existing threads only.
I’ve made a start, but even with Bulk actions while skim reading through 500 topic titles at a time it’s by no means a small job… ![]()
I’ve just done a load in User Support Hub > Aircraft & Systems, I don’t believe I’ve added the msfs-2020 tag anywhere I shouldn’t ![]()

I also agree. We really should have everything separated. The sims are quite different and have quite different problems.
That’s great, and I was by no means pointing fingers. ![]()

This is true and a way to look back. But look how much effort is required and we also require a permanent solution going forward. The tagging system doesnt work .
Interesting how MS is so quiet on this their input on this would be helpful.
I hope a question can be asked at the next Q&A that bearing in mind that a single forum and the tagging system clearly doesnt work when will MS give 2024 its own forum?
It does, but people aren’t using it correctly. That’s a bit like saying a shovel doesn’t work because you are using the wrong end!
I haven’t started many threads, but every one I did I made sure the correct tags were in place.
A bad workman always blames his tools.
I noticed you yourself managed to put the “forum-feedback” tag, so for you it worked also. ![]()
I am reliably informed that moderators changed the tags for this post, which I confirmed by checking the edit history as it isn’t directly related to the sim, but the forum software.

When support ends for the 2020 version everything will be in one forum. This can’t happen soon enough for me.
We do not have the bandwidth to have two separate forums, so this + the tagging system is what we have to work with! It’s not ideal for perfect searchability, but feedback always welcome to improve the current system within what we can do with the forum software Discourse.
Fair enough. But I’d like to point out that by rough count there are 42 individual forum pages here. 42. To add 1 forum specifically for FS2020 general discussion would be an increase of 2%. That’s not nothing, sure, but it’s also really not that much.
If the powers that be insist on keeping this forum merged for these 2 separate products, then please at least make it mandatory that 1 (or both) of the FS2020/FS24 tags gets selected when creating a topic. If this is already the case then nevermind. It will still get used incorrectly from time to time and require moderator assistance (or just leave us readers confused) but it’s better than nothing.
Thanks for this although I must express some surprise when I read that Microsoft is short on bandwidth., however I am sure you are right. In that case sort out the current forum please. Also in support of Ravenwings27 post here my ‘feedback’;
- new opening front end where posting to ANY and I stress ANY category is only possible after selecting either 2020 or 2024 tag. Mandatory.
- do not allow BOTH to be selected. It just doesnt make sense. (the exception to that might possibly be the Wishlist but most certainly NOT the general discussion topics)
None of this should affect your bandwidth. People can still read all posts but actual POSTING should only be possible as indicated above.
With respect as I understand your point, no the system doesnt work in practice. If it did, we wouldnt have this discussion.
The fact that tagging is possible doesnt mean it works in practice or contributes in a meaningful way to selecting posts and clarity.
It does, but people aren’t using it correctly. That’s a bit like saying a shovel doesn’t work because you are using the wrong end!
surely in that case the shovel is pretty useless?
People just need to learn to use the tools provided correctly.
Actually, there are things that don’t work even if most people do tag their posts. For instance, there is a selection for reading the “latest” posts. They are not separated as 2020 or 2024 when you open that.
Sure, if only life was that simple. Unfortunately wishful thinking wont solve the issue. As MS isnt going to provide a separate forum, a few simple tweaks as outlined elsewhere will go a long way to assisting people to ‘learn’.
Moderators have already set some categories as requiring at least one of the msfs-2020, or msfs-2024 tags, so that should help, but it wasn’t for all categories.
It’s now a requirement in Discussion Hub too ![]()
